Never give up on drawing, you are amazing.

Don't worry, that hobby is rather dear to me :)

I wanted too have some more stuff up, but I got a bit to overexceted when it came to details (I like details;), so there was a certain delay .
Anyway, at least some WIP image from "30" (5 more normal pages and one A2 scale down mass detailed scene will follow, then I'll have the Intro playing on Amazonia completed, and the usual characters will finally take over.)

Okay, here's the pic:

The image below was the first, rather rough design..as you can see above, a few more details were added :)

Thanks:)
I envisioned this cartoon already in december 2012 when thoughts about a Bender/PE ship sibling came up in one thread.
Spira began to suspect something about that subject being made into a cartoon.
I sent her a PM stating she was right, but please to keep quiet about it (in order for said cartoon to remain a surprise for the rest of my readers)

When I checked my PM box last week, I saw that old PM again, which reminded me this cartoon was overdue...;)

So, by now I have cartoon covering "The series has landed", Amazon Women in the Mood", "Rebirth", "The Devils hands are idle playthings", "Prisoner of Benda" and "Love and Rocket". As stated before: In the long run, I want to produce one cartoon for every Futurama episode (yep, even "Möbius Dick"....)

Howdy:)
One planned and cancelled episode featured the crew being kidnapped by aliens for their zoo, as part of a human breeding programm. The writers said Fry wouldn't have minded, but Leela having objections..

Well...a scene from Jim Henson's "Dinosaurs" came to my mind, when the Dinos tried to breed humans, and...well...they tried exactly what is shown in the cartoon below (also, with very little sucess, of course ;) )

Thanks :)
Now, when looking at it, I think I should have split the Professor's words in two speech bubbles. That way, I would have had three bubbles, with the dialog:
"Oh My".
"Oh Good"
"Oh Lord".
Well..maybe next time...

I like how Nibbler's hiding in the second panel. I can only imagine what happens next.  :laff:

Well...there are two Nibbloneans, one ready to leave the broken cage, and the other one that already started eating ;)
First, I was reluctant to add that element in the cartoon. I feared it might draw too much attention away from the "Bender/Fry" punchline.

But then: Many "Few-Panel"-cartoons leave the characters in a hopeless situation for humor's sake. A solution is usually not given, it's just assumed that the characters got away more or less unharmed, to appear in the next cartoon again.

So, I thought it might be nice to show for once how the characters will get away from such a situation. Even at the expense of maybe drawing some focus away from the main punchline.

It didn't distract me from the main punchline, because I didn't even see the other Nibblonian until you pointed it out. (The one eating the aliens)

Glad you liked it:)
Yep, I was a bit lazy with the professor.

- As the punchline is based on the aliens wrongly considering Fry and Bender as the Male/Female of the human species, it does not really matter what they consider the Professor and Leela to be. As the Professor -unlike Fry- didn't chase Leela up the next tree in many episodes, no harm can be expected from him anyway. So, it's rather irrelevant wether he is in the same cage with Leela or not.
- Also, Leela looked rather scared in the first pic. This really asked for her to be shown in the last pic, emotionally more relaxed and giggling at the punchline. As the Professor looked rather neutral in the first one, there was just no corresponding action/emotion drawn on him in the last pic.

Also, I must admit I was a bit lazy regarding the second panels layout. (Well..as my cartoons are not really pieces of art, but rather the Futurama equivalent of the weekly newspaper comic strips, I went for a "Ah..what the heck. It's good enough for that one joke" attitude with that strip ;) )

So, little previews from the "30" cover Art.
(I will go for the Kirby style Pratchett covers, which show lots of persons, depicting existing scenes from the novels. So, though none of these images will appear in the final comic, they will all depict scenes that HAPPEN in the comic)

"Indiana Fry" tries his hand at archeology, but messes up two movies. (Heck...George Lucas was involved in both, so whattheheck...):

Someone is looking forward to a conversation with the Femputer. The Femputer is not so much looking forward to it:

Just looked through some of your stuff, not all of it yet. Very well drawn. It takes a bit for me to get used to your stylization that you do on the characters ie: the giant chests and small waists on the females. But you are very good and I can see what you were telling me to look for. The details you are able to get in are amazing.

God these pictures are amazing!
Thanks:) But you may still call me Hein :D :p

It takes a bit for me to get used to your stylization that you do on the characters ie: the giant chests and small waists on the females.

It will usually take a bit for everyone to get used to them, but I have a reason to do so (and certainly not to appease to "I like big boobs" fans).

Professor Hein talks about comic designs, this might take a while:

In the course of comic history, the "expected exageration" of male and female characters has  always been very different.
An "over the top" male warrior could have a biceps larger than young Schwarzeneggers Torso, an fat man a belly bigger than two Sumo Ringers in a row, etc... . While the female "pretty girl" is usually a comperatively realistic 36-24-36 dolly, with maybe just a bigger head.

Let's take this pic for example (I do LOVE the Asterix series, though:))

Both the male and female character look completely all right on their own. Nothing wrong with either of these. Yet, when they are shown in the same picture, they look as if they belong to different comic universes. As if "Garfield meets Batman".

Well..I want comic characters whose appearance really SCREAMS that they share the same comic universe. To achieve so, I could either downgrade the males, or exaggerate the females more.  I am a fan of "over the top" style, so my decision was to exaggerate the females.

Unfortunately, the concept of female beauty is rather generic (while male characters can get away with "looking intereseting").
So, the female characters do not leave many possibilities for exaggeration. The breasts are the most obvious and suitable choice, followed by a thin waist. Already the hips can easily get critical, for a woman could easily look "too fat" (we are still talking about the "Pretty Girl" type). Also, female faces are smoother than male ones, also limiting the exagerration allowances. So, it's mostly the female body left as "exaggeration target".
Some cartoonists say "The female form cannot really be exaggerated", which usually makes me go facepalm. When we look at an hourglass figure....well...that shape is basically it's own instruction how to be exaggerated.

To cut a long story short:
I do not exaggerate the female characters too much, it's just that comic audiences are not used to female characters that are given the same amount of exaggeration as the male ones.

But compare one of my female characters to one male character, e.g. a muscular guy. The female is still closer to realistic human anatomy than the male, though the male character will not attract too much attention. Just because by now, comic readers have grown used to exaggerated male characters.
And I want my female characters to be exactly that exagerated, with all characters saying "We come from the same place" :)

The details you are able to get in are amazing.

I like details :)

Ah. I get that. I've never read proper comics so even the males look extremely exaggerated to me so it stand out more to me because I'm not used to it at all. I do read some manga but their exaggerations are very different from comics. I can understand wanting them to look from the same universe. It makes much more sense than seeing two different styles between the genders in the same comic or picture.

I remember seeing that you can also draw semi realistically and doing Groenig style with the Collector comic with Randi on the computer and a poster of tnuk with darts in it. So you seem to have a few different styles at your disposal that you can do. I'm quite jealous of that.

I can tell you like details. You add so many to everything it's amazing and makes the stuff look more realistic.

Well...certainly not drawn by me. I do not draw other persons/cameos without their consent, and neither cartoons with a "Haha...someone thinks I'm better than you" motivation. (Besides, that "youknowhose fanart" was not refering to Freako, so I considered it rather unfortunate his name was mentioned.)

Can't wait to see the cover finished.  Covers are my favorite part.

It will be an A2 "painting" showing the front and back covers in one big picture, the same way as it was done with said Pratchett covers. These covers always depicted the characters and important scenes from the book, giving the image a nearly trailer-like character :)
Well..the cover will be A2, and another page from the comic also that scale. So this might take a while, as I do those A2 pages when I want to go for a more detailed look.
(But I am glad when I am finally done with the flashback scene on Amazonia. It's like Elizabeth Swan finding the Aztec amulett in "Pirates I". It's an necessary, important scene for the rest of the story, it cannot be left out...but it's also that kind of scene that cannot grow very entertaining.

A WIP (detail) from a coming picture from "30".
Again, the A4 part of an A2 page that did fit over my scanner.

The complete picture has 2 vanishing points, one outside the A2 page (an A4 page has to be laid next to the A2 page). Also, these two points do require an 1 meter long "ruler" to be used.

Little edit: Replaced the WIP by a more reccent version.

Thanks :) The funny thing is: I consider my works on a constant decline. Every image seems less detailed and less carefully laid out than the previous one to me. (I considered the recent A2 not remotely able to match the standard of the NNY scene...yet when I laid the pages next to each other, I considered the lost city the better pic.)

Well..sorry there are not new final cartoons, but this page here is REALLY a pain in the BEEP.
I hope I might be able to complete it tomorrow....

Still not making too much progress on "30"...IRL have such a strange way of collyding with hobbies. (Okay...spent the last three days at an Irish Folk festival, and I am much to tired right now to draw anything productive).

But...to prove I have not been completely lazy:

Thanks:)

"30" because it does spoof the movie "300", and also a group of 30 persons will play an important role.

Yet, as the script does progress, "30" will no longer be a direct "300" parody. But the main event will consist of a "300" style battle.

-Except from that, Fry will in a certain way take Ephialtes' role from "300" (incorporating elements from "Hulk" and "Crank"...the Fry subplot will be REALLY sick stuff ;) )
- For Leela I have a prison break/feministas reformed plot in mind. Also, some kind of "Anti Mutant movement" appearing on the surface, that has to be dealt with
- For Bender -as the image does show- a role as weapon dealer. He's creating the biggest problems by now, for his plot is too small right now. Yet I consider the plot I have written on him the most On Charater theme in "30", so I do not wish to "soften" that by expanding his plot for the sake of it.

Otherwise, Thog and a character of my own creation will get de facto Protagonist status in the later stages of "30".

Except "300", "30" will include elements from "Indiana Jones", "Star Wars", "Iron Sky", "Children of Men", "Crank", "Hulk", with the whole mood getting rather action oriented. Some scenes will be darker and more sinister than "normal" Futurama...but as I put my own twist on it drawing wise, I do not see a reason not to take liberties with the plot, too ;) Also, it will be influenced by the "Asterix" Comic series, and some elements from the comic "Aquablue" (from which Avatar was basically ripped).
