In my case, it helped that I was able to spend the extra 6 months catching up on the first 9 seasons, since I just started watching SG last year, but the way SciFi shows SG1, I think I've seen every episode twice over by now :P

Make that 6 hrs 28 minutes.
Make that 2 hrs 16 minutes.
31 minutes.

I have it all worked out. Part 1 of the Quest and the Return are both on my DVR.

  • 18:00 commence drinking beer, pick the best of the eps from the marathons that ran today and yesterday to re-watch.
  • 19:40 begin The Quest pt 1
  • 20:20 Start watching pt 2. By this point, I will be just far enough behind to fast-forward through the commericals.
  • 21:00 Start The Return pt1.
  • 21:40 Watch The Return pt2.

And I wonder why I have difficulty with women?      :laff:

There were a couple of lame bits I'd forgotten in Quest pt.1, like the riddle "What's struck and cut, shaped and cooled, then bound by rings to release what's stored." - answer, A key. Now, I've seen a  LOT of ancient-designed locks in this series, and none of had keys which fit this description at all.

The best line is early on...
Mitchell: Look, I know you don't have any reason to trust us any more than [the Ori]...
Old Woman: I haven't seen you shoot anyone.
Mitchell: Good point.

f'it, it's a special occassion so I'm double-posting. Before my night of SG is over I might even triple-post.

Spoilers, for anyone who's watching it on DVR later

All I know is that I'm glad they're repeating the episodes since I missed most of SG1 since we had company over.

THAT WAS A SATISFYING ENDING FOR ATLANTIS.

Rewatched both again last night, new comments follow

The Quest pt 2
My favorite moment was when Sam finally just popped him.

I think the reason I was unsatisfied with it when I watched it friday was the complete lack of any real resolution. In retrospect, I don't know what made me expect resolution. Obviously, the ori situation won't be resolved for at least 9 more eps, and that's assuming the final resolution isn't saved for the movies or even possibly (though hopefully not) the third series.

The Return pt 2

Loved this one just as much the second time; the way they handled presenting plan C & D was still fun the second time, and seeing Woolsey get to experience first-hand what our heros deal with day to day was very satisfying.

One thing I noticed the second time, though: What the hell happened to the Lanteans? Were they all simply killed, or did they flee? All I remember them saying was that the replicators had taken over the city, and then there just aren't any Lanteans anymore. Wha? Did I miss something? Are they dead, or just MIA and to return later?

Bottom line, they seem to have obtained another ZPM out of the whole deal, making it a huge net gain even if they never got to learn from the Lanteans.

You mean the Lanteans that were actually not human but rather Replicators the whole time?

Man, I do need to watch that episode again, apparently.

I'm glad T'ealc didn't get offed by that dragon.  It would be a shame to have such a great warrior taken down by such poor CGI work.  I think they needed to spend a little more of the budget on that one, or get new artists.  Ignoring the dragon, good episode and another cliffhanger.

Wasn't terribly impressed with Line in the Sand. Slighty annoyed the by the complete failure to even mention anything that had happened. I'm forced to conclude that they reordered the episodes in the 10th season to better annoy us by putting the two-parter at the middle where it was split by the mid-season break.

Haven't watched the new atlantis yet.

Watching Ascension (Season 5, episode 3), the one with Sean Patrick Flanery as the creepy stalker ascended being.

For the first 20 min of this week's SG-1, I was thinking it'd be like the 67 other alternate universe episodes the series has done, but I was pleasantly surprised by the end.

Not bad.

But still derivative.  Too bad they wasted one of the last remaining episodes on a retread, but I guess that happens when the series is so old.  Gotta love that dress though...

Nah, the best ending would have been Sheppard telling the team that the forcefield doesn't work anymore as they're walking away down the street, and then have Ronin jump up like a little kid and run back to beat the shit out of him.

Ronin being excited to hit Lucius at the beginning of the episode was the highlight for me.

The real challenge was coming up with a-a good catch phrase. "It's…what I do." "It's what I do." That was so, you know, good. It defined Colonel Danning. And I needed something even better to make you forget about the guy that fans loved to watch for the first seven years of the show…I know he was here for eight, but uh, you know, a lot of people say he just kinda…phoned it in, uh, that last season. The writers were trying to come up with a catch phrase. Um, "I can get behind that!" was, uh, something we-we tried for a while. Pssh! It just hit me! "Sweet—[string of beeped obscenities]." And we can get away with that too, because…it's cable.
