So far it is obvious that Derpy is the mother of both Dinky and Sparkler. Is this another relative, or is Derpy also a time traveller?

No one knows, huh? Oh well, how about this one: I noticed that the song from this week's episode ( May the Best Pet Win) was recorded with a real orchestra.* Are they also using an orchestra to do other music for the show, e.g. incidental music and other songs like At the Gala? If so I wonder if they took a leaf out of (the original run of) Futurama's book, or are lots of children's cortoons scored with live performances these days? * Or at least that's how it sounds to me.

It certainly sounds as though they're using a real orchestra, particularly for the incidental music. In fact, the background score is quickly becoming one of my favorite things about the show. Thanks to it, the argument between Rarity and Sweetie Belle in Sisterhooves Social is one of the most dramatic scenes I've ever witnessed on television in my life. As for your initial question, I don't believe they've released official or full versions of any song, with the exception of the earlier, demo version of A Hop, Skip, and Jump.

Ponyville would be a dangerous place to live if it weren't for Rainbow Dash and the Batmare.

Twilight's owl is Owlowiscious. Elizabeak is one of Fluttershy's chickens.

I just see them as being particularly insular and self-absorbed. They no more know who defeated Discord than they know who the coach/trainer of the Wonderbolts is. I haven't seen anyone else mention it on the net yet but I thought that Fancypants had a lot in common with Mr Darcy, especially in the way he was portrayed to the audience. I was surprised that Rarity got away with lying so lightly but maybe I'm too bound to certain story telling conventions.

I'm surprised that Rarity didn't receive any comeuppance for her actions, but in a way, I like what happened much better. Much like Rainbow Dash's jerkiness, something you normally wouldn't find in a children's show, it is an element of reality that such a medium would often be reluctant to address. It could have come off as lazy or enforcing a wrong message, but instead it did the opposite. Rarity discovered the right thing to do not through negative repercussions from doing the wrong thing, but by being forced to acknowledge the fact that she knew quite well what the right thing was from the very beginning, and finally choosing to do it.
A lot of lessons are already learned. The hard part is choosing to accept that you already have the answer.

Y'all have tickled my curiosity regarding this show. At first I thought you were 100% tongue-in-cheek, but now I'm not so sure. Mayhaps I shall investigate and see what all the interest is about.

^ As it happens, I have a good idea for a highly annoying MLP animation... will post it in the fanart section when it's done. I'm 10 episodes in at the moment, episodes 9 and 10 are awesome (bride gossip and parasprites), fluttershy's "curse" was really funny, along with the whole intro scene to that ep, and I love how the parasprites ep ended.. Instead of saving the day.. 5/6 ponies failed miserably, Ponyville got reduced to scorched-earth rubble and the ponies just bullshitted the princess into thinking that everything was okay. Awesome. It's great how Twilight Sparkle provides the perspective of a "normal" character constantly going "wtf?" at all the other ponies, it really is a free ticket for the show to do whatever it wants and then make the humour out of lampshading it. I think some of the show's popularity among adult geeks is down to her being a character they can relate to. Personally I like how, for once, the really intelligent character is separate from the socially-introverted character. It's very rare that kids TV doesn't simply combine the two into the usual stereotype and call it quits. Liking the consistent continuity and logic too. E.g. when Fluttershy is scared of the dragon, the other ponies mention the big scary manticore she faced down in a previous ep and an explanation is given. Same goes for the AppleJack episodes where the obvious "why doesn't her massive family that we saw in ep 1 help out?" solution gets addressed. I'm also liking the constant horse-related puns far more than I should.
