Here's one I made earlier:

Edit: This one is up for grabs to anyone, including me

And since the uploading topic isn't up, and I don't know if it's deemed "meaningful" but I would actully like to change my avy to this.

You think you could work on the jaggies at the top?

Anyways... when PEEL gets back to normal, post it in the other thread plz.  I'm making a note of it now though.  :)

Good grief!

Is there no longer a period, prior to the release of a movie, where content from said movie is concealed in appropriately labelled links or spoiler tags? Or has it already come and gone and I just missed it?   :(

And here was I thinking that the wait for Wall-E (September 18th here in New Zealand) was going to be tough!

To me, that shot isn't a spoiler. Most of us here already knew Bender was wearing the knight garb. The preview trailer gives more out than the screenshot. I'm sure almost everyone's watched that trailer somehow, be it on the internet or the BWaBB DVD in the bonus features. The only thing that's a possible spoiler is Bender riding that horse....

But for you, I can understand how it may be a spoiler, but technically spoilers give away parts of the plot. Forgive us and our American (possibly other) ways. We get these things first it seems.

Oh well. It isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Its just that there's a pang of disappointment whenever I inadvertantly learn something new about the movie that I didn't already know.

I'm in two minds about trailers. I've seen some that convinced me to go and see a film that I would otherwise not bothered with but I've seen others that either had all the best bits of the movie in the trailer or actually telescoped important plot elements to the extent that it effectively 'spoiled' the film, either way my enjoyment of film itself was lessened for having seen the trailer.

Suffice it to say that I have quite deliberately not watched any trailers or read any promotional material (that I could reasonably avoid) for either of the remaining Futurama movies.

In the end, however, the stuff is out there for those fans who want to see it and I can't really expect people to go out of their way to accommodate the odd-ball whims of folks like me. I suppose I should be grateful if anyone is considerate enough to actually do so.

Anyway, lets return now to the regularly scheduled thread...

what? Its not like im from USA or anything, im from awesome lil Australia, where i like learning just the right amount of things before the movie comes out.

Ill watch the trailers, but i bugger off when its out in usa and ppl are talking about it. I was off peel for up to 2 months just waiting for BWaBB to come out.

So now its a crime to want an avvie of Bender as a knight first?  :nono:

We already talked about this Bear.... I don't know that that avatar is acceptable in it's form... I was thinking about working on it, and I'd probably cartoonify it if that was ok with you.

We can't take out the background? That's what I meant...take out the background and make the file size small enough. I just want the bear I don't care about the urban setting.

No yeah... that's what would be done regardless.  What I am saying is that mArc laid down some rules on avatars awhile back.... this was pointed out in the other thread.  There is a preference towards cartoonish images over photographs.  Yours is clearly a photograph... although a photograph of a puppet, so it's in a greyish area.

Would you have a problem with it being colorized to look more like a drawing?  There would be loss of detail if this were done.  I'll talk to mArc about it at some point and see where the line actually stands.

Speaking of cartoony,

I had a stab at making a custom avatar that more closely matched the Futurama theme than my previous contenders had but at 4.5k the file is too large. Also the style of the cup-cake doesn't match the style of the image as well as I'd hoped.

Is anyone able to either clean it up or make a better one (along similar lines)?

Thanks,

If I must be persuaded to have it another way then yes that would be fine. But make sure he looks like a bear! And also since I can't really do much with editing and all I guess I am at whoever's mercy. Yours or Marc's or xBIANCAx's or whoevers. So I guess I can't complain. thanks  :)

There should be tools on some photoshop programs that make those kind of images more cartoonie.

I believe the idea is to have avtars that look more like Futurama... ie, things that look like photographs, even 3d created images, that have nothing to do with Futurama are out.  The reasoning is that the avatars should have a similar theme in some way and make the forum look uniform.

Obviously we allow other styles than straight-up Groening style, but mArc doesn't want the line to go far out, and I'm not really willing to let that happen either.

Btw, as for cartoonizing, I usually just make a scan (trace the image, and fill in with colors) of the image; there are lots of tutorials for lots of different image software out there on the art of making scans.

You're skills seem to have improved yon trickster!

Just as a suggestion... you might cut out the bits that got cropped away from the body; the stuff in the lower right corner...  And maybe try to guess finish the top of the hat.

Those look pretty spiffy though, nice work!

I believe you squished that one up a bit tricky... When you're resizing, you've gotta make sure you've already got a square sized image (the width should be relatively equal to the height) so it doesn't squish the image in weird ways.

What programs are you working with btw?

I thought the versions before today's edit looked fantastic trickster....  there was nothing wrong with them...  I'm sorry if I was being a little confusing... Basically you've edited the one x.Bianca.x wanted 3 times.... And they've been good all three times... clearly acceptable.... After I made my suggestions the first time.... you redid them and they looked perfect.... now you've redone them a third time and they still look great.  I'm sorry if I was confusing you.  The one in your last post is really good... Could you repost the 2 copies before you edited them last though?  They're all good enough to be on PEEL, and x.Bianca.x can pick whichever one she wants. :)

My last post, however wasn't talking about the x.Bianca.x ones, it was in reference to the one hobbitboy wanted.  And it looks incredibly clean... I was just saying that the little munchkin guy looked like he got squished a little.

Comparison:

Other than that, you're doing a really good job.  Btw, hobbitboy already made his first one transparent that I ok'ed on the PEEL 2 beta, so I'm not sure which one he's going to pick, but he has the ability to pick one now. :)

The bear/mmf avatar thing has gone on long enough so for the greater good of all PEEL I have made Bear his own avatar.

I think this is suitable.

I'd prefer if that were cleaned up; artifact line on the top, and maybe smooth out the lines of the magazine.  But sure you can do that here, and other than what I just noted, that avatar is good to go. :)
