That is of course, in your incredulous opinion. Seriously, some people still think Futurama is generally good. So don't speak like your opinion is an assertion that summarizes the general view on modern Futurama. At least for the fans that still enjoy the show. wink
I still think that Futurama is generally good; season 7A was just the worst batch of episodes to date, by far.

Obviously this is opinion. I was throwing my opinion back against TNUK's opinion.

And it's your opinion that my opinion is incredulous; so don't be a gigantic hypocrite by acting like that's a fact whilst telling me off for not having a "My posts represent my opinions, not facts" disclaimer in my signature.

And, like it or not, I think that you'll find that "the general view on modern Futurama" is that it's substantially worse now than it used to be.

I don't think that's quite true...

The results from this poll say that people think it's on par to slightly worse. Of course, at 54 votes that's a pretty small sample size. But I honestly don't think the results would differ that significantly on a larger scale.

Personally, I feel like the show has gotten a tad worse. Just a tad. There were enough good episodes in 7A for me to be overall happy with it though.

An episode titled 'Game of tomes'? Nice! Here's to hoping more Game of Thrones references pop up(like the raven last season).

Actually I agree with CyberTurnip that Futurama is worse than it used to be. I'd have trouble finding a dud in the first 4 seasons. Every episode flowed nicely into the next and it felt like one long, awesome string of events.
The way the episodes are structured since revival is completely different than the original run, it now feels a lot more like how The Simpsons has been since Season 9.

It doesn't help that many of the voice actors sound different than they did 10 years ago either.

That being said, I still enjoy the show, and as long as the quality doesn't dip anymore; I'll be happy to keep watching.

Honestly, the show is different now... but not worse.
It's always been hit and miss since I started watching... from day one.

So for me the newer shows all fall in the middle... they are not the worst for the most part... nor the best, but have added a vast canon of true classic episodes to an ever growing list.. ('TLPJF' to name only one) and a couple of real stinkers on Robo Santa's the naughty list ('All The Presidents Heads' to name one bad).

But the sad truth is... bad Futurama is still better than most T.V. period.
So I'll be watching until the end no matter how bad or good the episodes get from here on out.

Also to me 7A was just painfully average, not bad, not great..(it had one bad and some great episodes) but most were pretty by the numbers and it's probably because 7B got all the truly BIG episodes.
There were many episodes of 7A I rewatched and I thought, oh.. this is better than I rated it.. but it's still just average.

I agree on the "New Episodes fall in the middle, while the early ones had highlights and downfalls". I would rather have some memorable highlights (TLPJ, TDHAIP, PoB, etc... ) and a few forgettable stinkers (MD, BBA*), than a row of "acceptable filler episodes"

Also, I guess present Futurama is yet closer to what Groening/Cohen had originally in mind. The newer seasons were often critizised for bearing a more primitive/cruder/naughtier humor. Yet, it was mentioned on more than one occasion that the writers enjoyed the greater allowances under CC.

Exactly, they have enjoyed the freedom CC offers.

But don't think Cohen doesn't stress out over causally putting Leela in a bed with Fry or a naughty joke here or there.. b/c he does.

I assume that's why he went so bald, he did it for us.. the fans... and stress from actually caring... and heredity.

It's always been hit and miss since I started watching... from day one.

There were more hits than misses back when it began, and there was also a lot more depth to the show. Now, there's a lot missing and it makes the misses both more obvious and harder to forgive.

For me, at least.

That said, I have a more distinguished taste and exacting standards for my entertainment than most do. I can imagine that it's easier for some cretinous and unclutured swine to enjoy lowest-common-denominator TV than it would be for somebody who demands a more esoteric denominator which makes up for lack of accessibility with depth and intelligence.

Broader accessibility has obviously widened the fanbase, but it has pushed down the quality. By their nature, accessibility and quality usually have an inversely proportional relationship - look at shows like Firefly and Arrested Development as examples (one was literally hard to access, the other was difficult to immerse yourself in. Both are regarded as extremely high quality television).

I agree on the "New Episodes fall in the middle, while the early ones had highlights and downfalls". I would rather have some memorable highlights (TLPJ, TDHAIP, PoB, etc... ) and a few forgettable stinkers (MB, BBA*), than a row of "acceptable filler episodes"

Agreed. But what is MB? Mother's Bay? Mobius Bick? Mars Buniversity? Maging Bender? tongue

I'm assuming you meant Mobius Dick, based on your hatred of it.

Obviously this is opinion. I was throwing my opinion back against TNUK's opinion.

All I said was that Naturama sucked. You said yourself it felt pointless and "wasn't exactly great". The fact that we can agree that Season 7A was largely disappointing makes me wonder if you can truly be said to be "throwing your opinion back against mine".

Honestly, it seems like we're able to agree at least on the original run being much better than the latest season. Even most of Season 6 was better than most of 7A, and there were a few rotten apples in Season 6.

Overall though, I have to say that if Season 7A is representative of the current overall quality, then Futurama has gone the way of the Simpsons. Which is sad. I suppose that only time and 7B will tell if this is truly the case.

Finally some useful information! Thanks! but...ugh Mike Rowe  no no ,is just me or I have the feeling that this guy might ruin Futurama? Personally even if he wrote a good episode (Fry am the eggman, in my opinion is a good one) the rest is really bad (Bender Game and that thing called Butterjunk Effect,is that an episode?).

But oh well, see Eric Rogers(Actually he's my favorite writer, even if I used to dislike him),Josh Weinstein and Lewis Morton (and too bad to don't see J. Stewart Burns in the list,he made some good episodes, and yup I'm talking about Neutopia, can be a slow episode but has a neat concept)

And yay! is always good to see a girl writing for Futurama! big grin so,yeah I'm starting to have a good feeling about 7B, and yeah 7A wasn't the best thing ever (you can forget some episodes easily) but I agree with MuchAdo, Futurama is "hit and miss". I don't expect romance, maths or sci-fi in every episode, if an episode makes me want to see it again, the I can say that was a good one! (Yes,I'm a very simple person).

Oh well,I can't wait for this summer and especially for:

Fry and Leela's Big Fling (I don't ship freela but, come on! is Eric Rogers)
T.: The Terrestrial (Please be the episode about Lrrr's son! I saw lots of Fry in the preview,I have a very good feeling about it)
Saturday Morning Fun Pit (Interesting idea, also Zapp might have his own segment smile )
Calculon 2.0 (Good writer, good idea and in the preview this was my favorite part)
Assie Come Home (I liked the other episode that she wrote)

Well...I am reminded of season 6Bs finale, which also promised a very emotional, touching story. Yet, what we got was:
- Leela wanders off for being unhappy about their on/off relationship (which basically was her fault)
- The rest of the story takes place without Leela, who
- Leela comes back the last minute, in a "We need a happy end..PRIVATE LEELA!! ATTENTION!!!!" "YESSIR!" way.

Though, to be fair, the Fry/Leela love stories usually delivered a good story and were incorporated in a good/touching way into a Sci Fi plot. So we can let that one exception slide, I guess. Though, I really hope the writers did remember for this final that a love theme alone will not do the trick, but they will also have an appropriate sci fi plot to drive the story appropriately.

Really? I tought Overclockwise was a great episode! I like how there was less Leela  and lots of fry humor('Hey?! This isn't a crate, it's just a stinking barrel! I want my money baaaaaaa-!')
The story overal was good, but the straw bending flashback was a bit off to me... bender being a bit helpfull and all smile Bender universe was great is my opinion.

I hope "fry and Leela's Big Fling" will be somewhat like Overclockwise with a mix of Fun on a bun & Less Than hero(for some reason...) smile

Best new episodes: "Bender's Big Score (1-4)", "Lethal Inspection", "The Late Philip J. Fry", "The Prisoner of Benda", "The Silence of the Clamps", "Law and Oracle", "The Tip of the Zoidberg", "Cold Warriors", "Overclockwise", "A Farewell to Arms", "Zapp Dingbat", "The Six Million Dollar Mon", "Fun on a Bun", and "Viva Mars Vegas"... and two of those I'm iffy on.

He needn't. Futurama has always been aimed at an adult audience, and adults tend to know that people has sex1!!!11!. (To the nuns on PEEL, I'm sorry. It had to be said.)

I find it hard to believe Cohen stresses over that stuff though. I mean, the man gave us Mother's Day.

I'm really looking forward to the finale. Hopefully the "emotion" isn't tacked on like it was in Overclockwise.

Anyway, it wasn't 7A as a whole that disappointed me, but rather many of the individual episodes. At least half of them had a tiny little annoyance that kind of spoilt it.

Both of all of this. All the stuff that was supposed to be heartwarming seemed majorly tacked on, and in the end all the plot points of that episode were severely underwhelming.

I certainly wouldn't mind 7b having a diabolical episode or two if it meant more truly superb episodes, rather than the consistent pretty good-ness of 7a. Because it totally works like that.

I didn't mean it in a confrontational way; but more as if I was throwing it against your opinion to form a big ball of discussion.

For the record, I wasn't saying that the show is much worse now, in my opinion - I was saying that that seems to be the general consensus from casual watchers of the show from what I've seen.

I loved season 6, but I'm not a gigantic fan of 7 so far.
