You're basing this on what? Anything billed as "feature length" seems to be longer than Bender's extenso-matic arms.

response to TNUK
1) That's not what happened with Family Guy; if anything, starting with the DVD movie Fox gave the show a much looser reign than when it was on the air the first time. When futurama (and family guy) were on, the network didn't "get" it, and they didn't have any concrete figures they could point at and say "this proves it's good"  They wouldn't bring it back at all if they hadn't been convinced by now that, whether they get it or not, it IS good. So IF it happens at all, I wouldn't worry TOO much about fox interfering with it.

Venus addressed #3, but otherwise I agree. I'd be VERY surprised if any contract were to emerge that COMMITTED to 4 movies up-front, there'd almost certainly be some clause allowing them to scrap it after the first (or even BEFORE the first). So caution is still certainly warranted.

[edit]
additional response
Animated movies almost NEVEr last more than 80-100 minutes. Few disney movies are even 90, and nobody spends money on animation like Disney does. Certainly not Fox.

Now that it's been mentioned it does sound like Star Trek.. They only have at least 6 movies...That I've seen.. Futhermore, anyone who does download illegally will be sought after by me and a small army of 10 thousand others who will slowly kill you, and [comic book guy] I myself will sadly have to break out my mint condition Star Wars lighsaber remake, and use it on your asses[/comic book guy]

It's already been suggested, but since four movies is kind of a weird number I get the feeling they might be planning on later splitting up the movies into multi-part episodes.  With three or four episodes in each movie, they could probably officially syndicate the show once all the movies were out (I think they need something like 85, versus the 72 now).  I almost hope they don't do it this way though since I want the movies to flow well.

But anyway.....awesome news regardless.  I can't wait to nerdishly buy each one the morning of release.

This is fantastic news!  Now we have definitive confirmation that Futurama IS back in some form.  These movies can't come out soon enough.

*sigh* That's not what I wanted to see happen at all, but it does make sense.

Like most everyone else, I've calmed down a bit and am now waiting to hear from Groening, Cohen, or F*X for proper confirmation.  One thing I'll be curious to learn is how the movies will be organized.  Obviously there's got to be some form of continuity tying them all together, but I wonder if they'll be like the Star Wars saga in the sense that all four movies explore one major story arc.

On that note, I still think it would be super cool if the first movie ended with a "To Be Continued...." ala Back to the Future.

Oh they're still around, doubting, thinking that it's a long time before July/August and then before the actual movies are released.  (I myself have doubts - but not doubts about the information from Mr. West - rather doubts about my own sanity that this is actually happening - maybe I'm in a mental hospital somewhere and this reality is just running through my drug addled brain...)

Jesus dude! Four?! Awesome!!!!!

Hmmm... This may be better than bringing back the series because they can make a really good plot line with lots of cool effects, and then they can keep Fry and Leela together for all you shippy people, instead of coming up with a cheap excuse to separate them again.

Oh let this rumour be true!

I didn't think the information was ever on CGEF.     The only thing I noticed was that the comments have been disabled for half the news entries on the front page.

Now I can finally stop watching Nasty's DVD over and over again. There something new coming!

Although this doesmean that I probably won't be able to tear Nasty away from his T.V. for a month or so.

But still... WHOOOOO!

About the movies and series equivalency:

Anything "feature length" is at least one hour, from opening sequence to credits. Assuming a length of one and a half hours (longer than the Family Guy movie, but fairly average and probable), each movie will have four episodes (each of around 22 minutes, as the series always was - I'm assuming our DVD movies won't have ads). Given there are four movies, that's 16 episodes. The average Futurama season was 18 episodes, so that's not much of a stretch, especially given the first season was only 13 episodes. I'd say four movies makes one season fairly well!

So, I thnik it's not unfair to say they chose four movies because they could then make them as episodes and just run them together to make a movie, as was done with "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story". Then they could televise it as a series to promote it, or to promote a new season. Yay!

So, this would mean there would be four production seasons and four movies, but, to Fox, six broadcast seasons after the four movies are done. Damn Fox's preempties! Confusing people so, if the movies are done in "Family Guy Form", there would be two more broadcast seasons than there are production seasons.

I hope they dont cock it up like they did with a few of Season 4's episodes. I want Bender to be how he acted in seas 1 and 2... not the crying girl he became.

I hope they keep the same crew.

Do I believe that they're are gonna make 4 Futurama movies? Mainly yes. However I'm the kind of person who needs to see it to believe it. I see nothing but an email from Billy West and this could all just be a big lie. Which I'm sure it's not but you never know. 4 movies? Huh I was just etching for one.

Yeah I agree with Kryten and Spacedall.  Billy West has jumped the gun before, this could just be another let down.  Its probably not a lie, but that doesnt mean its the truth.  Until I hear a f*x official say something involving the words "futurama" and "is back" I wont be convinced, especially since a f*x official just said not too long ago that there have been no futurama negotiations.

I think he was just censoring the word "fox" implying their very name is an obscenity, not actually calling them fux. I may be wrong tho.

Hmmm.  Well, regardless, I'm taking this as a good sign.  They're probably waiting for official confirmation (which I'm hoping will appear soon now that the weekend is over) before they acknowledge that Mr. West is right or... miscommunicating.
