Big mistake. Huge. Dammit, I'm excited and I have no outlet! Argh! It's like being a horny teenage virgin all over again! My friends are useless, the most positive reaction I got from any of them was "That's cool, I guess." Sigh... That's probably because most of us over in #fc land are pretty jaded when it comes to the topic. We get inundated by people who think they are the sole bearers of the good news, or lack the ability to spell (sometimes both). We've actially all pretty heavily discussed this, as it's been a matter of speculation for a number of months now, and there hasn't been much new to discuss. Not to be a killjoy or anything, certainly no problems with you coming back, just be aware we don't always talk Futurama in there. That said, this is certainly promising news. I haven't been following the news heavily lately (it's hard here with multiple threads on the matter, and I'm out of the habit of checking CGEF regularly). Though the new FOX broadcasting president said there's been no discussions as of now (I concede he could be just keeping things hush-hush), he does at least acknowledge the existance of the show, unlike past FOX administrations. Read about it here (about 2/3 of the way down)

I don't want to put an damper on anybody's enthusiasm (although that would be nice, as there's waaay too much optimism in here), but I have three points that I'd like to make:
1. FOX were all about gaining more control over the show. If they're in charge of the "product" in a more direct way now, how badly will it have been suckified?
2. Considering the fact that FOX gave themselves a massive fanfare, a drumroll and a spin of the proverbial top hat every time they told us all that no, Futurama was not yanked after 4 seasons, it got five, perhaps the "4 movies" isn't as concrete as we are all supposing. Hell, anybody remember the whole "we're going to do 3 Firefly movies" thing?
3. 4 movies is a high-cost excercise compared to a whole season. If they're producing 30 minutes for ever $600,000 they spend, then a season costs between $78,000,000 and $132,000,000 per season on production. Now, a movie lasts 2-3 hours. So per movie they're spending $24,000,000 and $36,000,000. That's $144,000,000 for 4 movies. A lot more than they would have spent on four more seasons. Plus they're not even getting any airtime for their money, 'cause it's going straight to DVD. My guess is they'll only spend the first 24 to 36 mil before they commit to the other 100-odd million dollars.
Remember kids, FOX is all about profits, not about making us happy. Whilst I'd be delighted to have this rumour come true, all I know is... my gut says - maybe.
