i know someone who has maybe 10 pictures of him and the other futurama characters covereing their room's walls. they're mostly of him, though.she REALLY likes Futurama...

Fry rules he is my best character on Futurama by far, he is hillarious and a well rounded guy (loving Leela and so on). I can't believe someone actually voted they wanted to kill him, are they insane!!!

I voted 'love him', but not in a gay way. I love that he's an embattered everyman struggling to make his way in the world and do the right thing despite his monumental failings. This particular breed of antihero (pretty much the same as Homer Simpson) is actually quite touching because the message is that it doesn't matter what your flaws are - we all have the capacity to rise above them.

Personally I belive he's more intelligent than portrayed and the the idiotic part of his character is rather forced upon him. Does that make sense ? Countless examples can be given... Plus it appears characters do evolve in Futurama and he may be coming of age (and also maybe getting to know Leela really well, thus having more success in his endeavours, see later episodes)

Fry’s apparent stupidity is probably the result of his missing delta brainwave.
I say "apparent" because this missing component causes his mind to work differently from normal other humans, and therefore behave differently.
Whether he is, in fact, stupid, or not, he behaves differently, and this difference is frequently perceived by other humans as stupidity.
It is this apparent stupidity I do not understand well.

Do not forget there is always the unsettling possibility of the writers' limitations in time (e.g. storyboards deadlines) or attention to detail ... But I hope that's not it. The lack of delta brainwave explaining apparent idiocy is definitely an interesting theory. Fry does appear somewhat childish (is that what attracted Leela to him initially? - see her confession to Zoidberg in Time Keeps on Slipping)- and Bender encourages this behaviour... As a point of interest - would you like to have a partner missing the delta brainwave    ?
