The polls will be open until around the end of December. Results will be announced and awards will be given out sometime around the end of 2011/beginning of 2012.

Because tnuk deleted some posts my spam in the mean time, resulting in a lower post count of the thread than prior to your post, or rather the same when you posted.  As that is what SMF checks against.

Complaints and general bitching have been removed. Not by me. However, I have agreed that it's for the best.

Please note that bitching about your own nominations not having made the poll will get you nowhere. The council have agreed on the polls and that's final. The council are, despite assertions to the contrary by people who shall remain nameless, united and unanimous.

More complaints will result in myself and the council having to take time out of cotinuing to put together the PEELies, in order to respond to them. Which is going to make the PEELies themselves a lot less enjoyable for the majority.

Please bear in mind that just because a small minority of spoiled brats who are not getting their way are whining doesn't mean the council will pander to them. If anything, it means that they're going to to start clamping down in order to impose their iron will.

Polls will open once they've all been up for a day or so and people have had time to chew over the choices.

Meanwhile, it has not escaped the council's attention that Gorky has posted in every PEELie thread so far, if not at the first, then one of the first few people to offer a voting choice plan.

All of the polls wont allow me to vote. They all just have 0% next to everyones names

The polls are not open for voting yet.  I believe that has already been stated by totalnerduk in this thread LFF.  Basically, the polls were released showing the nominees to garner discussion about them, and they will be opened shortly.

Oh, and please no one upload any PEELies related stuff yet to the wiki since the page for it including filenames for the trophies are already done and are just awaiting the end of the competition.
Until then I will ask Xanfor to delete all uploads in that regard.

As the polls are being locked and some awards awarded already, please remember to NOT upload any files to the wiki yet and do NOT update the page.

We already have the page completely done with award file names and everything, so any help you try to provide will ultimately just result in more work for me to adjust the wiki and for Xanfor to delete prematurely uploaded files.

Updating people's page to show the awards they won however you can do already now, unless I was faster.

I'm not really sure about the fanfiction one (because let's face it we all knew Kurtpikachu was going to win that one), and I know from the beginning you said that the Council had ultimate say over who won or not, but if that's the case, why let us nominate and vote for someone you had no intention of giving the award to begin with?   If the Council just ignore wins they don't feel like honoring,  it certainly makes me not to want to bother with nominating/voting anyone next year.  Kurtpikachu is the most notable fanfiction writer on here, so I think he should get that (something that's so bad it's good counts, just not in the way the author intended, that is if he's not a troll which he seems to be.  And if he's a troll, then he's a very good trollfanfic writer, which again says he deserves the award.)

I mean next year, either strike down nominations you aren't going to honor to begin with so we don't waste votes on them, or just skip the voting process to begin with, and let the Council decide who wins out of the nominations.   But since the fanfiction one seems to be the only one with that problem, maybe it's a better idea just to scrap that category for next year since it didn't get many votes anyway and there don't seem to be any genuine fanfic writers on here to boot.  Congrats to everyone who won, by the way!

The thing is, there was precious little fanfiction around in 2011, and we'd decided that the choices weren't really deserving of the title... but they were the only choices we had. So we decided to take the unusual step of awarding the trophy to somebody outside of PEEL altogether.

We thought that it would be fun to allow people to vote on the choices anyway though. It's not as though I didn't take pains to inform people that the poll leader would not necessarily be the winner well in advance.

As for "the devil and the deep blue sea", I meant that on the one hand we had several choices who have either not written fanfiction, or who have written terrible fanfiction. On the other hand we had the possibility of simply scrapping the award altogether. So faced with the devil and the deep blue sea, we chose neither.

If you feel cheated, then write a fanfic in 2012 and post it on PEEL. You should win without a problem, providing it's not absolutely godawful.

I don't feel cheated, because I don't think what I wrote counts as fanfiction, so I don't really see why I was nominated.  I was touched at the reasons why, but I don't think what I write really counts as fanfiction.  I won't write any, as I don't think Futurama really works as a written narrative.  Comics and tv shows yes, books... no.   I mean sure, I would have liked to have won, but Kurtpikachu had me beat in that category anyway.

I think that category should be scrapped, since no one here actually writes any. Maybe if a bunch gets written next year, and if most of it it is very good, then keep it.  But until that's the case, I would get rid of it and replace it with something else.

If I end up running the PEELies 2012, "Best Fanfiction Writer" is one of three or four awards that will be cut. However, we'll have to see. Somebody else might step up and put me out of a job.

I suppose that depends, Bend-err. As the still-active creator of Corrupt Despot, I feel I should expect that others would abide by the clearly-explained guidelines. This isn't about someone loving my rules but rather paying attention to how the contest has worked for years.
