I'm opening this because the "Complaints and Arguments" thread got spammed out and closed last year.

My complaint is that somebody (I think we all know who) is bumping up every single Simpsons thread in "It's got a TV!"  Right now there must be seven Simpsons threads on the first page alone.  Isn't that overkill?

Actually it's not leelaholic.  I'm talking about Teesside.

He's bumped three or four threads in the last couple of days, one thread he bumped just to quote an earlier post of his, without adding any extra insight.  I call that spamming.

Another complaint is that bender&fry has been here over two months, and he STILL has to double post instead of using the "edit" button.

[EDIT]I just counted, EIGHT Simpsons threads on Page 1, five are old threads that have been bumped, three of them by Teesside.[/EDIT]

It's especially annoying when the only Simpsons episodes I can remember well are the new ones that aren't even funny. Come on, I want to see that DVD collection thread get bumped back up.

Didja try that convenient "Alert" button?

Anyway, now I'm aware, and I'll take some sort of action.

Damn thing bit me just last week...

Also yeah, the Raging bender thing is done with, how about making something rotate in that spot, kinda like how the buddy icons rotate themselves at the bottom.  You know marc, so it seemslike there's something new there....  ;)

No, it's not the section that's the promblem (i think it's a good idea acutully)it's the fact that it's been like that since GOD knows when.

Someone made a good suggestion a while back that they should replace the "Raging Bender" thing with a random episode that changes every week.  Everybody watches it on DVD, VHS or secret, illegal download, then rates/discusses it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you a post which fails on every level.

I mean, really. How can you screw up a quote when it has its own button? Both in the code and the actual quote itself, changing its meaning almost entirely?

Yeah... can't imagine that happening again.

Also, rule brittannia: whilst you did fix up the code, fred might get offended that you mixed him up with the "telecomunications industrys leading supplyer of fiber optic connectors and other stuff that is too boring to quote".

Brittannia, in all seriousness, you do know there's a "quote" button which eliminates the need for typing out someone's else's quote? Along the bottom of the post, with the "Profile", "Edit", etc. buttons?  :)

My complaint is that you can't edit thread topics. When someone misspells a topic, the search can't find it, and extra threads are made. Also, the mods would be able change meaningless topics like "I don't know what to title this..." to something more appropriate.

And do something about that Raging Bender thing !!

If you have a complaint about a person name them, we don't want to play guessing games.

If some old thread gets bumped it will rapidly fall off the front page if nobody else adds to it, and if people do contribute to it there is no problem having it bumped.

Actually I DID say who it was in my next post.

And eight threads on a non-Futurama topic is unwarranted, especially when Teesside or someone else is delibrately bumping a whole load of similarly themed topics for no goos reason.  It swamps the first page of the forum in question, and quickly pushes newer threads to page 2 where they get forgotten.

Not a complaint, just a suggestion that doesn't deserve it's own thread...

After checking out the 'Old Tests' thread, i saw rachy's post reguarding a thread she made way-back-when, i decided to have a quick look for this thread, just for kicks.
Anyway, i searched for 'test' in the subject only, and with the username rach_the_tall.
I was aiming to get threads containing 'test' in the title that were made by rach, instead i'm given all test threads that rach has posted in.
And thus Rach's name was painted on all of the threads that showed up instead of its creator.

It just seems to me, the maker of the thread should still be listed when you search by username.

Anyway, it's obviously no big deal, in point of fact i'm only really pointing this out to kill some time.   :)
But i mean, if it's an easy thing to fix, then hey, why not.

And the "add signature" button should be in the QuickPost.  And if you need to keep up with a quote game or something, you should be able to recieve e-mail notification on other people's topics.

That won't happen, some people would tick it every time they post even if they had already posted it on that page, at least having the option in the reply section only cuts down on the number of times sigs are posted.

One of the resons quickpost was introduced was to limit the number of sigs showing on each page. Many sigs mean a heavier burden for the poor 56k users, aka people like me.  :p

Or maybe I'm just mad.

...I agree, although more because I just don't want to wade through sigs to get to content. Isn't there an "unwritten rule" about only posting your sig once per page?

Isn't it an unwritten rule that sigs should apear about once per page. Isn't it an unwritten rule to read the previous posts properly? Anyway, i prefer the few signatures per page, it makes it much nicer to read. And helps those poor 56k-ers.

Tiny signatures (that don't have any graphics) should be fine, obviously.  But I do agree that the more graphically disrupting (as in the bigger and more colourful ones) should be limited.  Although I'm not on 56K anymore, I don't like it when signature graphics disturb you excessively from reading the posts.  I'm glad this place is better than some boards.

I don't think there's an unwritten rule of "only show your sig once/page", since the sigs are chached locally and only downloads once. The problem come when 40 diferent posters in one thread display 40 different sigs.

And yes, I too hate those forums where you're able to read "War And Peace" ... in Russian ... backwards before a page loads comletely. In my experience InvisionBoard forums are the main culprits.

I don't mind siggy blocks.  Even the biggest ones only take a few second to load with a 56K connection.

What gripes me is people posting large image files, when they could just as easily provide a link.

I can see the reasoning behind that, but what's so wrong about e-mail notification on other people's posts?  Too many e-mails?  Also, does [-mArc-] have to type all those, because they come from his name.?

I think that if you don't notice the sig too much then it is ok. For example, a small text or simple picture is ok a few times on a page, but anything with bright colours, is large, or flashes (please never make an animated sig) should only be shown on 'special occasions' like when you make a big post, or to emphasise your post.

I personaly only show my sig when I want people to be sure who is posting. Well ok, sometimes I air it out a bit to test....
