Also, not enough full-frontal nudity. (Noting the posts on the previous page) You just asked for it Coldy. You know that, right? Anywho, once we get closer to Beast with A Billion Backs (See that wasn't hard) I think we'll see alot more discussion and unfounded jumping to conclusions. Just like with BBS.

omg! lol! rofl. stfu. gtfu. pwn.
...ugh... fucking young people... Can't escape them. I never could stand youth, not even when I was one.
Anyhow... I'm most looking forward to Wild Green Yonder, 'cause you just know that's gonna be the mac-daddy, both in terms of quality sci-fi/comedy and shippy content. We know BBS was just razzle-dazzle. The Futurama team saves the good writing for the final quarter.
STOP! .....Hammertime!
I have a feeling the one-sidedness of the Fry/Leela dynamic will be abandoned in the fourth movie in favor of a mutual attraction which is hampered by the circumstances of the plot. I predict we'll get to see Futurama play into the tried-and-true sci-fi formula of unlikely saviour battling the evil hordes, winning the day, and getting the busty broad, whose cold facade finally cracks beneath the onslaught of his simple charisma.
You know, like Leia with Han. Or every woman in the Universe with Kirk.
I don't know if it's the way she's drawn, or if it's Katey Sagal's (real) humanizing voice, but the Leela character really seems to me like she's aching desperately to love and be loved. There's a kind of elemental warmth to her depiction that evokes the essence of the nurturer, the Earth Goddess. She's reaching out for the counterpart (the Horned God, if you want to get Pagan about it [and I will once again draw your attention to Fry's hair horns]), desperately seeking that missing elemant in her life.
The duality of the pairing, equals and opposites, is evident if you look at the two characters, and literary convention dictates they will end up together.

That was probably me, in one of the past threads... back when I gave a shit. I'd go into it again at great length, but I dislike repeating myself. Originally posted by FordMustang: Interesting Celtic analogy there... Kernunos and Epona.
Smart arse. In one of the previous threads I had a long post detailing the Pagan Goddess myth parallels I'd noted in Fry and Leela. You can fish around for it if you're interested, but you probably aren't... and I can't blame you. Originally posted by FordMustang: Nibbler had indicated Leela was "the other"...
Which will need to be addressed. Originally posted by NastyInThePasty: (nine years) Which is how long it's been since Futurama premiered. There was a two-year gap. Doesn't count. Equals seven years.

I'm gonna have to agree. I think WGY is probably going to be one of the best Futurama episode/movies ever. They seem pretty sure it's going to be the end (although you never know) so they'll probably want to go out in a blaze of glory. I think the one sidedness thing is one of the main points of BBS. Its hard to tell because it was so close to the end but I think the whole thing was supposed to be the perverbial 'kick in the back of the head' that I've always said Leela needs. I think over the next three movies she'll get alot more receptive (for lack of a better word) to Fry's attempts. Originally posted by coldangel_1: You know, like Leia with Han. If Leela finally tells Fry she loves him and he says "I know", I'll be so amazed by it's awesomeness that my head will probably explode. That would be the ultimate reference.

Yup... I have a smart arse. But I do like to think my brain is much smarter than my arse. I may be an older Futurama fan, but I am a new kid on the block, so I missed your cool Pagan references there, Cold One. And I would be delighted to read your previous posts on the subject. I guess I have to thread up the fishing pole and go searching for those lovely references you posted. I come from a Celtic/Norse background (the Hebrides Islands and chock full of goofy green-eyed red heads and green-eyed blonds in my family line)- I am even named after an Irish Saga heroine and supposedly look like her, so I go ga- ga for Celtic terms. I also like to think Celtic myths carry on traditions that are even older than Celtic society since Celts have their origin in Indo-European roots so your thread may touch upon some very ancient ideas.
The "other one" idea will be addressed, but I sure don't want it to be Leela saying, "You were so great and I am so dumb but I never saw it!" She and Fry are both very cool people, and I want them to accept each other as equals, with no apologies on any side! (Bah, I am such an ideologist!)

And, me being an ideologist, I would LOVE to see you do a Fry/Leela picture based on mythical themes you have mentioned.

I was in Marietta, Georgia in 1966. Ms. Mustang, I am the 4th oldest member of the board (following Filthy Crab, Capt' Skusking and Bobbot) - having entered this world in 1960.
Coldy's half my age, yet I seem to click with him better than most other members of the board - probably because I kinda like his borderline anarchist attitude. And yes, you're absolutely right, he has mucho talent.
And he's a big shipper, always able to get Fry and Leela together as a couple by the end of his stories.

I was in my mother in 1966 :-) That is also interesting how you and Coldy have so much in common in personality even though the ages are different. I have to read some of his fan fiction. I know from his art he is a shipper.

I wrote 'A River With Currents', which featured a time-travel plot and a grizzled time-duplicate of Fry who ended up dying to save everyone. The I wrote 'Blame it on the Brain', in the conclusion of which it's revealed that a temporally-displaced version of Fry had been suspended in an Applied Cryogenics tube just a few rows up from where the older version was first frozen. Both were completed before BBS came out, and both contained elements which made their way into the film. I cannot help but wonder...

Originally posted by FordMustang: Yup, I am in that number, too, and I am not old. Our lovely neighbor kids (who are bored yet financially well off) enjoy taking part in neighborhood beautification projects like slashing tires, egging cars and putting graffiti on houses. My weapon of choice is my super nasty and extra sharp alpine walking stick. I've had to wave it a few times and yell out some threats to get the kids from "decorating my car". And I have wound up in court more than a few times as witness for their vandalism. Ahhh, life in the DC area. I use to live in Columbia, South Carolina in one of the nicer neighborhoods (The Fabulous Moolah helped me get the house I had there). We still had problems with the young hoodlums that would drive slowly by, casing the houses. Not many people would have the guts to try to rob my house - I was well known to sit on the front porch and field strip my large assortment of firearms. Now I live in a fairly nice neighborhood in Fort Collins, Colorado. We have few problems with crime here. It's really the nicest place I've ever lived. Maybe your place of employment can move you to Denver and you can live in the Loveland/Fort Collins area. Once you try it, you'll love it!

Mine is really a bummer because it is an international border so I have to have a passport when I switch personalities. At least that is what my parole officer tells me. I really do have to check out your fan fiction! It does seem to be an amazing co-incidence with the BBS plot and your tales. I guess you are somehow channeling the screenwriters. @Ralph Snart... your neck of the woods is lovely. I used to go there for holidays when I lived in Nebraska. I have put the bug in the ear of my managers that we need to transfer the US office to Utah, Colorado, Minnesota, Alaska, Oregon... They just laugh at me. Anyhoos, when I pay off a last loan, my agenda is to try to get transferred back to Iceland which does have a lot in common with the Rocky Mountain states.
