Yeah it is. I don't know if Leela is being intentionally cruel but Fry has to work adn work for her but a random stranger shows up and can get a date with her right away. I know it's how she is but still you'd think she'd atlease give it a shot.

The problem lies exactly in that Fry is not a random stranger. With a stranger, she has nothing to lose, and can come away basically the same as she started if the relationship turns sour. However, if she gets into a relationship with Fry and it goes wrong, she fears losing her closest friend as well her romantic partner. As I'm sure has been said 12,000 times in these threads.

12,003.   :p

But it's still perceptive, and remains a valid point. Being as how it's probably the main reason that she won't consider a relationship on a serious level. It may sometimes seem that she'll go out with anybody, but one has to remember that she was pretty picky in LLLIS.
Also, I didn't say I thought she was cold, myself; I was just stating why I think some people see her that way. It is a matter of interpretation.

I'd more say she has blindspots around her friends. She can't seem to see Fry as anything other than a loser kid. Generally speaking.

Of course she has a blind spot, look at her retina! There could be a silver dollar hovering in front of her face and she wouldn't even know it was there.

Yup, it's a disadvantage when you have a crush on someone who is so familiar with you.  That person sees you all the time and never notices you are changing for the better because of that blind spot. The strangers have an advantage because there are no preconceptions.

I think Fry and Leela  will have to wind up spending some time apart for her to see him in a different light.

The day that Leela and Fry fall in love and get married is the day the show will die.

This is not necessarily the case.

However it's likely that's where they'd end it...

Yeah probably but I don't want it to end like that. It could open up more possiblities but they'd have to be willing to go there.

That's what I meant.

However if Leela married Zapp....

Think of all the plot lines they could get from that!

I reckon this is both correct for that reason and for the need for the sake of longevity of the show / movies to take the Fry / leela love story back a few stages from where it was headed at the end of production Se4. (the devils hands episode)

This being said if the next few films are like Benders bid score I'd rather just pretend it ended at devils hands.

With the blind optimism of the faithfull iam ever hopefull of what Beast with a billion backs, etc will bring.

yeh i've said it now, I dont like benders big score...speak up...

I dont like Benders big Score

I think benders Big score is shit! There Ive said it, can't unsay it!

I agree that it wasn't nearly as good as it could have been and they ignored some key episodes but the next movie looks so promising that wish I could wet my pants but that will wait until I watch the movie. Well not really I'll just be bouncing around excitedly.

I always hate when people say that. There are tons of hilarious possibilities in that direction. My personal favorite being Bender getting jealous about the loss of his best friend and trying to break it up. Give me time even I could think of alot of great stuff...and I have the creative talent of a dead salmon.

That's why I love the show... they are always bringing in some cool literary references from all sorts of sources.

@Gaschief- I do hope, too, the Powers That Be will not duplicate Bender's Big Score in the next few movies  (it would be way too intense) but will still respect Fry and Leela's wonderful friendship.  Hopefully that might develop into something deeper and more sincere further down the road, but now's not the time for it. My guess is if there is something to develop it would be in the "Wild Green Yonder" which seems to deal with a very long lasting war.

As for the comment above me, yes i think the fourth movie will have something to do with the future beyond the future.

The team behind Futurama have stated that Wild Green Yonder will end on a sweet note, so I think that's where the romantic subplot between Fry and Leela will finally bear fruit.

I can say this:  BWABBs had some revisions to the script and some major dialog changes after BBS was released.

We shall see if BWABBs is an improvement over BBS.

As for the show dying if Fry and Leela became a dedicated couple or even married, that would bring a new intensity to the relationship and a whole new universe of ideas for plots.  Bender geing sullen and jealous could be an ongoing arc.  How would Zapp deal with his little turtle dove being married to a guy he considers completely undeserving of the lucious Leela?  We've already seen that Fry will risk his life and safety for Leela but we've never seen her do the same for him - there could be a whole arc of Fry missing and Leela being completely obsessed with finding him.

So as much as I absolutely hated BBS, I still have hope tht the other DVDs will better and hold out a slim hope we'll get more episodes.

I agree totally.
While the ongoing 'will they/won't they' type of subplot in TV shows is good for bringing viewers back, after a while it can begin to suffer from repetition that can lead to dissatisfaction of the type you've experienced. Changing the dynamic can sometimes really work if it's handled right.
Moonlighting didn't handle it right. The X Files left it too long. Farscape, on the other hand, did it brilliantly, but the show sadly suffered for external reasons.
Fry and Leela as a couple would be quirky and unusual. They'd argue a lot, and things would come between them, but they'd also be loving and shit, and fun to watch.

I think the exact word they used was "resolved". I take that to mean a good thing.

I choose to believe what I was programed to believe!

That would be awesome. Leela would be kicking all kinds of ass in that one. We should find a way to get you a job as one of the writers or something.

PS: I could do it too. My uncle knows the mafia.

I'm trying to figure out what in the world anyone would want with an electronic dartboard... seems somewhat superfluous.

As does sentience, speech, and humanoid characteristics in a robot designed to simply bend girders... but that's another issue entirely.

Season 1 Fry/Leela moments:

Space Pilot 3000

"Your chip!  What are you doing?"
"Quitting."
"Why?"
"Because I've always wanted to.  I just never realised it before I met you."

This Series has Landed

"The moon was like this awesome, romantic, mysterious thing, hanging up there in the sky where you could never reach it, no matter how much you wanted to. But you're right. Once you're actually here it's just a big dull rock. I guess I just wanted you to see it through my eyes, the way I used to."
"Fry, look. It really is beautiful. I don't know why I never noticed before."

I, Roomate

"Fry, you can't keep living like this.  You have to find yourself another apartment."
"Is that an invitation?  :flirt:"
"Love your optimism, Fry..."

Love's Labour's Lost in Space

"Zapp Brannigan?!  How could you Leela.  I mean, he's a big gross gorilla!"
"Shut up!  Don't you think I feel bad enough already!"

My Three Sons

"She tried to warn me but I was too proud, too stupid to listen!  I wish I had died instead of her."
