And thats why you're a n00b  :).

A n00b with a big wallet (or probably more accuratly, rich parents) but a n00b all the same.

The US GameCube version is highly questionable. www.futuramathegame.co.uk  doesn't list it as being on the GameCube, but the SCI website DOES.

And I wouldn't listen to IGN, seriously.

nintendo.com.au just recently put up a news artical about the game, so does that mean it's getting a release in PAL regions? Time will tell...

One more thing to add, it seems we're getting another remixed theme. *Concluded from the websites flash intro*

IGN Cube are wrong. Futurama The Game for GameCube has not been cancelled. However, it won't be coming out in the US.

A GameCube version has been developed. It works. It runs on GameCube. There is somewhere a GameCube version of the software.

The original plan (I presume) was for Futurama The Game to be published globally by Fox Interactive. For various reasons, it wasn't. This means that each part of the world has a different publisher.

In the UK and Europe, it's being published by Sci Games, in the US, it's being published by Vivendi Universal, and in Australia / New Zealand area it's being published by Atari AU (technically being published by SCI, under the Atari AU brand).
Each publisher pays for their own production and distribution of the game.

Contacting Vivendi Universal has been extremely difficult - they give no customer service email, and contact details can be decribed as "limited" at best. For some reason, Vivendi Universal have decided not to publish Futurama The Game on GameCube. A few probable reasons are:

1) GameCube discs are based on a propreitary technology (making them inpossible to copy - no one has yet to copy a GameCube disc). This makes production slightly more expensive than PS2 or XBox discs (based on CD / DVD hybrids). Vivendi Universal didn't want the extra expensive.

2) More likely, the proportion of GameCube users in Europe and Australia is much higher than that of the US. Vivendi felt a GameCube release would not bring in enough money.

SCI Games (who are publishing for the UK and Europe) have confirmed a GameCube version is being released. If you visit their website you will see it is still on. However, I should point out that the GameCube version will, in all probability, be released later than the XBox and PS2 versions. SCI do not give a release date for the GameCube version.

Atari AU are still publishing the game for GameCube. Atari AU have confirmed a release date for August 1st.

So, to sum up:

The GameCube version of Futurama The Game is NOT cancelled. However, it will not be available in the US. Due to restrictions imposed by Nintendo you will need to purchase a specialist device to run the European / AU version of the game on your US GameCube. I'm sure someone else can advise on what this requires (I have no idea).

Hope that clears it up!   :)

IGN can't seem to grasp the idea of there being countries other than the US though, so mishaps like this are to be expected with them.

Woo-hoo! Thanks Sheep, that's really useful stuff. I just hope nothing changes for some stupidly stupid reason.

On the GC discs being ever so slighly more expensive, i don't see how that works as an excuse, as it means no-one can illegally copy it, thus reducing losses due to piracy (one of the so called reasons for high game prices).

And i'm pretty sure the GameCube did not do as well in the States as the rest of the world.

Oh, Freeloader can do NTSC->PAL in the UK, i dunno about the US, this may be useful to you.

The Futurama game promo that runs on Sky One in the UK before every Futurama episode only mentions Playstation 2 and XBox! This is another sign that the gamecube version (even in the UK) may have been slashed! Which is anyoying because I would prefer it on Gamecube as my PS2 is acting up.

I saw that promo before Futurama and that's the reason why I'm on this board. Yet, I have a gamecube magazine which schedules it as coming out on the 4th of July.I guess I may aswell get for PS2 as the cube version is probably just a port. Any news on GC/GBA connectivity?

No...it just means the GC Version is being released at a later date, and it wouldn't make a lot of sense to hype a game that won't come out for several months yet. The other two are out in just over one month.

What! Who thought up that release date, an Irish man!?
"What's the best way to cash in on the Xmas shopping spree? I know lets release it the day that everyone is sitting at home bloated recovering from too much christmas pudding and turkey!"
Sorry I got a bit out of control there, but that's a seriously stupid decision.
PS: No offence to the Irish, you guys rock!

Well I was at my local (Australian) EB yesterday...

They had preview boxes for the game (with a delicious GameCube logo on them) and the release date on the box was July 3.

Needless to say, I put a pre-order on the game.

That may have been the UK/US date, or it was an old box, or something... But EB recognise a GameCube version. Long live the Nintendo empire! And score one for PAL.

I've seen the boxes at EB too Oni, July 3 is PS2 and XBox, it will be later for GC.

My GC is getting dusty out there in the lounge, but when futurama comes, it'll finally get somemore use.

Yeah, all is not lost for Americans. You need to buy the Gamecube Freeloader, which is essentialy a mod chip for the GC. All Japanese and European games are at your disposal now.

I scored one of those empty Futurama game promo boxes today (a very worthwhile addition to my Futurama collection) and it is clearly printed on the back [AVAILABLE JULY '03] '03 as in 2003 not the 3rd of July

umm, those boxes are not made by the publisher, they are made by the company reselling them, for instance EB.

EB had boxes for Duke Nukem Forever 2 years ago and the game still isnt out

News: Futurama Officially Canned
Jul 2nd 2003

Rumours about a possible cancellation of Futurama for the GameCube were already flowing the web. Today we got the official confirmation...
SCi Games informed Cube-Europe today that Futurame will not be produced for the GameCube anymore. Why? They did not tell us, but we asume it is because of the lacking sales of the console.

We at Cube-Europe were looking forward to this title and we were shocked by this news. Hopefully SCi will change their mind, though we fear they won't.

Don't puke at SCi puke at those who won't buy GC. It is only 6% of the market and most of that will be Nintendo titles. alot of GC's are like mine a second console purchased for Zelda, metroid etc.

Also what if UDS canned it? GC USA canned so europe the same game will be so maybe SCi wanted to release it but because USA release was not happening development stopped

GC is losing the fight but there are some great games coming to it that I want. I paid £79 for GC + mem card + Mario which shows how bad the GC market has got

This is really stupid. Although I do have a PS2, I also have a Gamecube (although, recently I haven't been playing/buying games anywhere near as much as I used to). And I would have prefered to get Futurama on CG. It's just a little bit smoother, and....well better. Also my PS2 broke a few weeks ago, it now only plays certain games. I guess I'll buy the game on PS2, and hope that it works. Otherwise, i'll have to pay Sony £80 to get it fixed.
Now I guess I wish it was coming out on PC, as I've just got a great new laptop.
