So there seems to be a classic action star revival happening, Expendables 2 and also Arnie in The Last Stand and Stallone in Bullet to the Head.

New Cloud Atlas trailer. Not as good as the 5 minute but still amazing. The guy who plays Timothy Cavendish looks fantastic.

Dredd looks like it's going to be somewhat less sci-fi than the Judge's previous cinematic excursion. And grittier as well - like the comics. But unlike the comics and previous film, it doesn't look like it has much of a sense of humour about itself. We'll see, I guess.

Dredd was pretty good, I thought. Nothing about it was particularly clever or original but it's all executed very well. It felt like a solid homage to Paul Verhoeven films of the '80s.

Looper is not a sequel, prequel, remake, reboot or adaptation; it's a original sci-fi film by Rian Johnson and it has time travel. Go Watch It.

It's an "original" sci-fi film. It borrows heavily from elsewhere and contains very few truly original ideas or concepts (if any, at all).

The real reason to see Looper is because it's a good film.

True, there are very few original ideas left these days which haven't been applied in fiction in some form or the other, Everything Is a Remix after all ;). It's the execution of existing ideas presented in a unique way that can make the big difference.

The real reason to see Looper is because it's a good film.
Indeed. I really enjoyed Brick and The Brothers Bloom, so I have no doubt that Looper is going to be great as well. The crowd reactions for Looper at Fantastic Fest and its previous screenings have been positive all the way through. But I have to wait another two weeks for its release here in India.

Problem is despite it being a good original film, it's more likely that people are not going to give this movie a chance cause there are not familiar with it. And then the constant complaints of sequels and remakes will continue. Then the audience will still drive in large numbers to the next bloated Transformers or Pirated of the Caribbean sequel. That is why I have been also re-iterating why Looper stands apart in those regards, so that people will consider watching it in the theatre.

I was like, is this a joke?, but it turns out, it is for real.  There truly is no limit to bringing back stuff.  Are they going to make a fifth Indiana Jones too?

I liked your general review of Looper.  Now you're just trying to rub salt in the wound.

'Sides, how can they make a fifth Indiana Jones when they haven't made a fourth?

Holy moly, well I might watch it if he's in it. No Arnie, no Terminator as far as I'm concerned. At the moment there are only three, two very good ones, and one mediocre one...

Imo, T2 is to T1, what A2 is to A1.  Terminator and Alien were horror films set against a Sci-Fi backdrop,  Their immediate sequels were action/action-horror.  And subsequent sequels in each franchise garner rather wide-ranging opinions :)

If the next "T" has Arnie, I'm all for it!

Fuck everyone who says this is like The Dark Knight Rises. It's probably going to be better because there'll at least be Stark-isms aplenty.

I think it's the darker tone that's making them think that. Honestly it's nothing like TDKR. I agree with you in that I hope it's better than IM2. That's not to say the film was a pile of shit, but it could've been better. Had they cast anyone but RDJ as Tony, I feel like that script would've entirely flopped on it's bum and people would've considered it a huge failure.

It almost certainly will be. Shane Black has written and directed this one and his credentials are exceptional - particularly his history with Robert Downey Jr.
Plus this one has The Mandarin and nanobots and Rebecca Hall and that trailer going for it.

Could you start a thread in offtopic for me where you review peelers?  I like your style, it's out there and pretty up front.  The audience will eat that up because it's edgy and energized.  I think it'd be quite successful, so I'm just going to throw that out there as a suggestion for further consumption on your part.

So much Iron Man faggotry.  Iron Man 3 should be Iron Man 1 anyways.... as long as they don't do stupid shit with it like get rid of nightcrawler or force robert downey jr. to be an emo bitch.

Books tried that once, in like late 2008 I think, don't you remember, it promptly got closed.

Verboten, SHUT DOWN

it was a philosophically ponderable idea though.. throwing into light and bringing into question, all sorts of contemplative musings on the nature of PEEL and the vagaries of posting...

or maybe the other way around...

See, I was getting more of a Dark Knight rather than Dark Knight Rises vibe off of it.  It just seems like the trailer for the second part of a trilogy rather than the third.

Iron Man 2 is very forgettable, but I think this new one will be better. I kind of understood the Dark Knight comparison, if just the part where they're blowing up the old Iron Man suits. That being said, didn't that happen in Batman Forever when the Riddler finds the Batcave? Maybe Iron Man 3 will be more like Batman Forever.
