I feel really sorry for Leela, everyone has a dig at her for making Fry feel bad, but I think she's scared of her own feelings. Poor Leela...

Yah...I can sort of relate to Leela in that aspect. It took me a really long time for me to find a nice guy who wasn't a jerk about my height. (He's 6"3, so he's an inch taller than me) For a while I even stopped dating altogether. And then I met him, and although I was still kinda jitterish, he turned out to be a real sweetheart.

I keep getting guys who cheat on me, so I can relate to Leela like that. No wonder she's worried, if she likes Fry and he's a jerk it'll break her heart.

All people are jerks; male, female or alien.
Fry doesn't really try to hide it though.
Isn't that something people want in a significant other? Someone honest?

I've never understood this 'cheating' thing. If someone doesn't just want to be with one person - don't be with anybody. I would have thought it simple. They should just say "Hey, I'm not interested in a stable relationship with you or anything, because next week I'll probably meet someone else I'll like, and then I'll probably move on from them a week after that so..y'know." See, honesty. Surely it'd work...

Ha, this somewhat mirrors Cale Black's oafish comparison of political ideologies at the end of my novel:
“Ha.” Black rolled his eyes. “Commies, Capitalists, they’re all arseholes just the same as each other, just the Reds are usually more honest about it...

You're channelling me.

Oho. Yeah.
I was just thinking, possibly due to watching Scrubs most of yesterday, followed by some Futurama, that people waste too much effort on things that can't be altered. There's going to be something you don't like about everybody, even if you don't realise it at first. And the reason you don't realise it at first is often because it wasn't there to begin with, it just gradually escaped.

But then, how do you know that what you thought was the gritty truth, isn't actually the gritty truth at all?
Fry could be a male sex slave for all we know.

It comes with living within one's own head.
Hah, a few weeks ago I felt claustrophobic because I couldn't get out of my head. It was an odd moment, but then, a moment was all it was.

"Can you imagine a world without lawyers?"
I think even if humans were able to read each others' minds, they'd still get the wrong idea. Unless the 'reading' came with words and feelings and a bus full of memories that impacted on how that portion being read came to exist in the first place.
Perhaps that's the point, the continual battle of if's and but's - it's something to do.
Then again, there is no point to anything. Case closed.

Bingo!  You are indeed learning, Grasshopper.

Leela: Bender, dating your co-worker and primary mode of transportation is immoral, illogical and a violation of interstellar shipping statute 437-B.
Bender: That's what makes it so nasty!
Leela: Still, given the chance, I'd give in to urges far more shocking.

....Now, what did she mean by that?

Yea, I always wondered what she meant by that.  It's probably one of those things you don't really want to find out about.

Also, when they walked in that scene, did Fry look turned on by the PE ship?

Wouldn't we all like to know!  :p

And on the fuss vs gain ratio, did I mention that the "gain" side of a Relationship is laughter, fun, compantionship, and (assuming we're talking Romantic Relationships) sex?

Doesn't seem "minimal" to me, but I guess we're just two different people...

I have lots of laughter and fun on my own. Companionship is torture to me, and sex... well... there are other ways of getting that.

Fry did look turned on by the PE ship... and then later he was aroused by watching Amy cleaning the PE ship (girl-on-girl action). Heh heh...

The last scene of that episode is rather sweet and incredibly shippy until ZoidFUCKERberg ruined it.

Urges far more shocking...she did eat quite a lot of ice cream when she and the ship were having a girly chat.  :laff: Mmm, ice cream. I was watching that last night thinking "Hey, give me a bucket!"

Zoidberg was probably jealous at the end there. And they did both put their arms around him. They could have pushed him away...

Wasn't it so cute in that episode when (after Fry saved Leela with the oxygen and after Leela revived Fry) Leela and Fry walked in to where Bender was and  Leela was holding Fry's arm around her (obviously for Fry's support) but then she put her arm around Fry too (maybe for support but I don't think that extra support was completely necessary) so maybe it was subconsciously shippy on Leela's part. Plus it looked sooo cute! Like they were a couple.

And damn Zoidberg for ruining that at the end! Leela was actually accepting Fry's love and Zoidberg ruined it!

Yes, short-term oxygen deprivation does not render a person unable to walk unaided for any prolonged period. Leela would know that. They were both play-acting because they wanted to touch each other.

I agree that Leela did love Fry, she just didn't know how to handle her feelings. Someone with a past like hers -being rejected by her parents and brought up in an orphanage- would make her insecure about love and relationships and she wouldn't want to get close to someone she truly cares about (Fry) because she'd think he would reject her like her parents did. Fry truly cares about her and she knows that; it scares her but she wouldn't admit she was scared. For Leela it would be far easier to make out she's not interested in someone than letting herself love them. I reckon her comment about her urges is definitely about Fry, it's got to be!

This is probably all been mulled over already, but I'm new and it's just my shippy two pence worth!   :D

Dad flicked the channel after watching his news and this was exactly the spot where the episode was up to... then he flicked the channel again  :hmpf: I wasn't happy. He doesn't like Futurama; he thinks it's too 'adult'. But he's only seen parts of AOI1 and Love Labour's Lost in Space; it's kind of hard to convince him Futurama's not full of sex. If he had watched the end of L&R I could've shown him... grr...

Anyways, sorting through pics and found this cute picturesque moment. I might fix it later so Fry has his normal 'warm' hands.

Which reminds me - how did you go about downloading 'Leela' off Kidnapster in that blank ACME inflatable doll   :)

The last scene of that episode is rather sweet and incredibly shippy until ZoidFUCKERberg ruined it.

I saw L&R for the first time (I waited on purpose to see it on TV) - it was excellent... Fry's sacrifice and the U Leave me Breathless candyheart should bloody have melted Leela's heart and doubts. Come on, what more could you expect from a guy? (well, girls ??)
I guess, the storyline was that they should not kiss or hook up, so Zoidberg was sent in, in a kamikadze mission, knowing all shippers will want to disembowel him (not that he would care). The last scene was more than an impulse - in real life they would've kissed afterwards anyway I would say. But the management decided to continue torturing the shippers and so was against it.

I really really can't decide. 'Given the chance'? Were there no chances to give in to urges? Or rather were the chances not synchronized with Leela's urges? (how dare they - hehe). Maybe it was only meant-to-be-funny-slash-intriguing remark...but by all means, let's hope it was about Fry   :)

Yeah I think Zoidberg was put in at the end to stop the inevitable. We all got annoyed at Zoidberg for interfereing but then we kind of think , hmmm he never get's attention or love from anyone else so i'll let him off this time. But there could have been a long kiss to finish the episode there.

Companionship is torture...?  Okay, I'm fairly antisocial, and have met people even MORE antisocial, some of whom are as close as one can get to developing "adult autism" without there actually being any such thing for them to develop.  But THAT'S a new one on me!

Though perhaps you just haven't fallen in with "the right crowd" for you, yet.  I was a loner who was bored by people for most of my youth, until I went to an advanced high school full of freaks, geeks, nerds and fans, and suddenly, it was FUN to hang out and talk with others, and others actually wanted to talk to me.  I had found My People.  :)

Here's hoping you find your own People...at least to give it a try.

And I TOTALLY pause on the half-carry thing in L&R.  Likewise I adore that three seconds when Leela realizes what's happened, just before she kicks into action and starts CPR...for a second, she just panics, her hands just sort of waving helplessly in mid-air.  Of course she pulls it together fairly quickly, but I love that our ever-capable Leela has a couple of beats of pure, useless panic.

Yes, I'm a bit of a sick puppy.  Deal with it.  :p

People just annoy me. I'm over it.

Leela's moments of panic are always cute because they're coming from someone who is, as you say, so capable.
Contrast always adds poigniancy. Like when a selfish and apparently amoral character (like Bender) turns around and does something noble.

Very true. It makes for a nice change though; because in reality, people really can switch emotions, moods, and personalities if it is necessary. And you'd be surprised how quickly they do.

To make another topic, which shippy episode would you pick to keep if you could only pick one? Not necessarily your favorite, but the only one you could show your friends and say 'that's shippy, and I like it.'

I'm pretty sure The Sting will rack up some votes, but what other opinions are there?
