Kiddo, you don't know what being in your prime feels like until you're infused with a cocktail of enhancing nanomachines that give you immortality and the invincible powers of a God. Trust me on this.

Okay as a newbie I hope I'm not dragging up worn out discussions BUT how do people think this new movie will deal with the Fry/Leela angle? I heard there's a rumour that the movie will be Bender heavy so I thought maybe they're going to avoid focussing on the F/L interplay too much as a way of putting it off, but they won't be able to get away with that for long. And if they're making 4 movies I'm assuming they won't want F/L to get together too quickly in case fans lose interest. It'll be difficult for them to put off the resolution until the very end especially if CC decides to buy more episodes. Hmmm the possibilities are bewildering

Stezzy. Someone from 'ain't it cool news' says they have read the script, and they have this to say about Fry/Leela interplay within the first of the movies (tentitively titled - 'Bender's Big Score'):
"Fry / Leela fans have plenty to chew on, and if that romance has ever elicited a tear or two, well, grab a hanky, it may do so again."

Oh wow that sounds good, although is that for real as I was under the impression the new movie script was under top security? They haven't done a good job of covering up the details if so, unless they're teasing us with info tidbits I suppose.
Thanks for the welcome Kitkat - and I have to say I feel the same as you - I love all the F/L romance/near misses and I wouldnt want to see them together too quick, as long as they DID reach that point eventually though! I'm still puzzled by how they will make it last all the seasons though. I wouldn't stop watching if they did get together as the F/L romance wasn't the reason I started watching it in the first place, but I think it would take away an important element of the show, unless it's handled right of course!

In any case, after Devil's Hands I doubt they'd just drop the angle altogether. Even if they don't touch on it in the first film, there will be three more to follow.

Maz - she was about to start licking him.
Unknown - I went through puberty when I was 8, so I was shaving, smoking cigars, and making passes at the young female teachers while my peers were still playing with toy trucks in the sandbox.

I suppose it might have seemed a little irreverant of her considering the context of the episode

Originally posted by coldangel_1: I suppose it might have seemed a little irreverant of her considering the context of the episode Cold_Angel, she was NUTS. She was delirious. She could have done anything... well, almost. But I agree that licking him would have been a bit too much. What I enjoyed so much in the Sting (my fav ep) is the candid JOY that Leela displays every time she meets Fry - of, course, in addition to the RELIEF that she has not killed him.. The joy expresses her subconsciuos LOVE of him; her relief, the GUILT for being responsible for his death (by bringing the friggin' bee in the ship - duh - see below) My dilemma - and this is a topic for the Deep Down Thread - is: how much guilt and how much love ??? She is in a coma, but it is IMPORTANT. I guess a lot of 'shippers' ask themselves: does Leela love Fry ? A Little, a Lot ? But is there really little and lot in love ? Also may I mention that Leela bringing in the bee was totally against her rational and crew-protecting nature. They could have found a better reason for the bee to be in the ship! But I don't care much for the reason, really @ Various, regarding basking in the Fry / Leela near misses: you people write as if Fry & Leela getting together would estinguish all the 'fizz' (don't like the word but I am lazy now) of their blooming relationship. NewsFlash: THERE IS LIFE AFTER STARTING A SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP! THERE IS LIFE AFTER GETITNG MARRIED! People, believe me, it may even get better ! Or more exciting, if need ed to entertain those millions of eyes watching you through that glass screen you always wondered what was for (Ok, here's the clue: it was a metaphor for Fry & Leela being watched by us - lame huh) Sorry for shouting. but have some faith, people! But be aware: once you get into something really serious (you'll know that sooner / later), watch your sanity. Taraaa ! (Exit in a cloud of smoke - actually more like the Roobot Devil running on the side of the stage)

Ah, she knows that she knows that she knows that she loves him, but she thinks that she knows that expressing that love would be a monumental risk; exposing her soft emotional underbelly and threatening to destroy a friendship that means the world to her (Fry seems to be her only real friend).

That's about it. Plus she seems to like depriving herself of things she wants. Self-punishment maybe, or some kind of twisted minimalism.

But a cartoon character can take ANYTHING. Look at Daffy Duck - shot in the face at point-blank range with a high-powered shotgun. No effect. Cartoon characters are immortal demigods.

It'd be a nifty turnaround if Fry gave up and lost all interest, then Leela realized her mistake and spent a few seasons chasing HIM around.

That would be really funny, but as frustrating as hell for us viewers. Talk about torment. Yes Fry would have to reach his limit sooner or later I guess, but I think he must realise deep down that Leela has feelings for him, otherwise his behaviour wouldnt really be appropiate. I mean, if you love someone but you know they dont feel the same, you respect their feelings and eventually accept it isnt to be. I think Fry knows that Leela genuinely does have feelings aand that's why he keeps on trying. He might well decide he's had enough if Leela still won't go out with him after the opera.

I think the rumours are that they're saving the "resolution" until the very end as getting them together too soon might cost them viwers. I don't know how true that is but it makes sense that they would want to keep the tension going as long as poss. It wil be hard if they make more seasons though.

Yes, apparently there's a final episode scripted to be inserted *whenever* they decide to finish the series, and that it has resolutions. Dunno how true it is either. I'm not sure it's the kind of thing they'd willingly release to the public.
