Pretend like you think he means "comp" as in short for "computer," and give him one that doesn't work anymore (you have one lying around in a closet collecting dust, right?  I've got several...        ).  After all, a "workman's" comp is one that needs to be worked on, right?       :p

Aww...I rather liked 'ship harder.' It's OK though, anu name is good so long as there's shippy involved!

Wow, I picked the name? I feel honoured... and slightly hungry. And I ran out of muffins... damn.

SHall we ponder probably directions the Fry/Leela romance might take in the new season/DVD movies?
Will Devil's hands be referenced? Will they be noticibly closer? Will we return to find them living together in domestic bliss?
Probably not...

Yes, we shall ponder The Ship, and along that line of thinking I shall throw my first bone out there. I wouldn't be surprised if they open it back up with a cold opening that has Fry and Leela on a date that explodes (figuratively) in their faces. It is totally open ended and keeps continuity with Devil's Hands.

Yeah, a date or some such. That way it would be in keeping. But they won't continue dating permenantly; things will happen to throw all manner of spanners in the works. This would keep it interesting. I think they should be a lot closer in general, have more touching moments and be more open to each other. Moments like that were a little too few and far between - the bulk of their interactions involve Leela yelling at him and Fry being stupid.

Fry and Leela at Elzar's. The look happy. Leela is falling for the idiot's simple charms. Elzar brings out a platter and lifts the lid to reveal....

A BRAINSPAWN!!!

Oooh new thread!

I don't think there will be a date to start. I think  Leela will still keep saying no even though Fry will be more persistant and romantic than ever before. And then something will happen that makes Leela lose Fry (not neccesarily death) and then Leela will realise that she loves him and yeah! LOL

A bit like The Sting I suppose LOL but happen over a number of episodes and Leela wont be dreaming it in a coma.

There's still a few excuses she hasn't used.
"I'm your captain and commanding officer" is a good one.

Ahh, my sexy vixen of a Captain used that line on me back in the regiment... Stupid non-fraternization rules...

heehee. Silly coldangel, trying to hit on his supervisor.   :p

I don't think that there will be a date to start either. He may constantly ask why, that much is for certain, and Leela will tell hi the opera was beautiful, but nothing will happen. That is, 'till something unexpected happens, like the return of the brain spawn. I would hate to see them get together at the end of The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings, you know. He 'made' her love him by impressing her. The thing she falls for should be an impulse; like when he gave her his oxygen. At least, that's my two cents.

Or maybe Fry will snap under the pressure and run away to DOOP and become Zapps aprentice, leaving Leela what seems like a suicide note, she'll worry untill she sees Fry on Tv when Zap declares War on Omicron Persei 8, then she'll realise that she loves him and might lose him and she'll attempt to rescue him with all sorts of things going on.

That would be pretty interesting, though. There are so many fanfics of them getting togethe, one of them is bound to be somewhat close to the actual thing. Unless...
It never happens at all.

The writers will let us dangle. Just like 1013 did with Mulder and Scully. When UST (Unresolved Sexual Tension) is a draw card that keeps viewers coming back then they'd be morons to remove it by getting them together. They'll just toy with us. And we're gonna love it.

Mulder... ate sunflower seeds and spent a lot of time trying to see symbolic patterns in crop circles.

Okay okay, the X-Files comparison isn't entirely applicable because both Mulder and Scully were very aloof about their emotions... in that they NEVER really showed any. Fry and Leela are far more open, especially fry who unashamedly lusts after her - well past the point of pathetic.

I think Fry was sweet. Besides, you only had to look at the way Mulder always worried about Scully to see the simularitys between him and Fry

Well he did a lot for her. A HELL of a lot.
Ha. Yep, M&S are the only other onscreen relationship besides Fry & Leela that I ever gave half a hoot about. I'm a massive XF fan. I have all nine seasons on DVD. Quite an expensive little collection there...

Sweet is all well and good in small doses, but I think what Leela would really respect is a bit of assertiveness. She's a strong woman; strong and self-reliant, and so that's the kind of thing she'd look for in a potential mate. Fry needs to take some initiative, grab her by the shoulders one day and just plant a big hard kiss on her. She'd probably kick him in the head, but she'd still respect him for having the guts, and he could work from there. The constant whining and grovelling ain't what a woman like Leela would find in the least bit attractive.

Hello, he gave her his oxygen and jumped infront of a space bee for her, that may not be assertive but its sure as hell brave to say the least.

That's nothing - I once illustrated a woman's fanfic for her!
...which reminds me, I might as well start that.

Yeah, he's good at attempting to kill himself for her, and that's way cool and all. But I think he needs to conduct himself in normal day-to-day life with a bit more confidence. This is moot of course because then it wouldn't be Fry anymore and cartoon characters don't tend to grow to that extent. I just know how I'd treat her... yes, that's how pathetic I am; pondering methods of seducing a cartoon woman. Hey, I just realized - I'm a loser! Wooo!  :D

Thanks for agreeing to illustrate my fan-fic for me. *blows kiss*

Fry doesn't have any confidence because he's been treated like crap by everyone, even Leela. I'm sure he be more assertive if people treated him better.

And you are not a loser.

Peh. People kick me around like a hacky-sack in day-to-day life and I'm still assertive enough to light their houses on fire while they're asleep. HA!! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR FIRING ME!! I'LL 'FIRE' YOU RIGHT BACK!!! MWUHAHAHAHA!!!

But moving on... I suppose this is the appeal of the everyman-type of antihero - the flaws make him interesting. If everyone was a big strong heroic adonis like myself then things would be a mite boring. Too much perfection gets dull.

...Actually, the words 'big' and 'adonis' probably don't apply exactly, unless as abstract metaphors for short and pasty.

Well thank you. I think those two qualities are my most endearing. Even cuter than my violent mood swings and tendency to carry concealed weapons. Much to like... :|
But all this talk about me is making me aroused.

To the matter at hand -

Leela's a cow. In The Farnsworth Parabox, after it's revealed that she'd been making up fake reasons to avoid going out with Fry and he got really hurt and angry, she never once apologised. Cold.

One possible aspect of her aloofness that was never brushed on except partially in 'A Bicyclops Built for Two' is her feeling of not being very pretty due to the whole massive single eyeball thing.
Something Fry should have said at one point and never did... or rather something I would have had him say if I was a writer, is "You have a beautiful eye". I think she would have been really touched by that. I know he said he didn't care about it and he liked her the way she is, but he should have taken that extra step. It's likely something nobody's ever said to her before.

Aw, you're gonna put it in a fanfic now aren't you? Gosh-darn! All right, but I can as well.

Yeah, she might think Fry's only looking at the things she has two of  :p. I reckon she'd be touched and flattered and probably blushful (not a word) if he said she was beautiful, and included her eye in that assessment. Part of her reluctance to open up to him might be a subconscious feeling that he must find her ugly like everyone else does. Break through that particular psychological barrier, 'Good Will Hunting'-style, and you might meet a whole new Leela.

I like your stories as well, ColdAngel.
FWIW, Publishers, agents, etc., aren't necessisarily looking for good stories, they're looking for "product" with which they may make a profit; and that, my friend, is governed by different "Rules of Engagement."
I'll shut up now...
