Well, no time for me to say anything shippy right now. I gotta wake up really early tomorrow. But first:

@Shiny: Do you have any idea how much that clinic cost!?! ;)

@Professor Zoidy: Say, I have an idea! Why don't we all make some sort of shipper logo and post it here. Then, afterwards, I'll start a poll to decide on the best one. And that will become the official PEEL community shipper's logo!

@Pedro La Loco: Please read the title of this thread: 'The Intelligent Long-Winded Shipper Disscussion Thread'. Now, I'm not going to bring up your intelligence here, just your ability to reason and deduct. Namely, you're not discussing, you're not a shipper, and you're barely long-winded. The italic word in the quoted title and the context in which it is standing out should be obvious to you and if it isn't, well, my point is proven either way.

If you wish to continue posting like this, you'll be happy to know that there's a place you can: The Test Thread. Here, you can post whatever you want, while watching Beamer post up pictures of PhilSeyHoff while uttering mantras of 'The Plan is almost complete', Punching Bag either agreeing or disagreeing with everything said (although not always actually saying so), JBERGES making comments about Ancient Greek in Perl, Nixorbo telling everyone how ignorant they are and praising the TimeCube, chay's head being generally reasonable, and of course, me imitating said Nixorbo's large fonts and telling everyone how I am so much better than him. ;)

@Everyone: I changed my mind. I'm never to tired to post something shippy! Now to get to work on a logo...

My 25th TOTPD! And seeing as how this is a new page:

Well, at least you're smart enough to change your tactics...it's too bad that whining is just another way to be lame.

If you don't want to get picked on, why don't you STOP trying to be the most annoying PEELer and try being friendly instead?

The whole "Leela's mine, kill Fry" thing could be a tolerable running joke if you would, well, JOKE about it. You need to pick your times...don't spam it onto every thread, every five minutes. Just post like a normal human being, but slip your "Leela's mine" bit in to the end of a post every now and then...just a couple times a day, with a smilie (a :D or a :flirt: rather than  & :finger: ), and people might actually start to be amused, and become glad to see you around.

We can be a pretty friendly bunch to people who act friendly to us. Just think it over for a bit. The way you're treated here depends on how you treat others, and that's entirely up to you.

Then where's your shippy picture, signature, avatar and rant? ;)

Alright then, enough jumping on Pedro. We've directed him to the test thread, and told him gereral procedure. If he does anything now, it can be defined as either spamming or trolling, and we aren't required to respond. Incidentally, there now is a new test thread, in which I have now become either a respected member or a Mafia target for posting another Hoffman. On the same page! I'm a dead man...

Anyway, I'm now adding that some modification to the fic have been done. Not revealed on it's thread, however, is that in the next movie I might be-, well... What are your thoughts on bringing in parallel Alkazar as a known character's love interest?
(Giant foot comes down and crushes Xanfor)
(Note: This is only for discussion among the shippers. (All glory, etc.) Those people who just stay in the fanfic section aren't allowed to know yet. You, my friends, are gifted. Gifted!)

And now, the shippy pic of the day!

This is, of course, where Leela says something that is deemed to be proven wrong... ;)

And you know, this would have been one of my only non-edited posts if had only spelled 'of' correctly...

@ Xanfor: How can you spell fucking "of" wrong? :laff: Naw I'm kidding ya, I do that too all the time. Most of my posts I have two capital letters because my finger seems to be slow on that button.... :hmpf: Anyway, here's the somewhat shitty picture I made that I can ad words to if we ever figured out what to call this community..I guess what I suggested could possibly work....Possibly...

Anyways, I say if Alkazar isn't the total bastard we all hated in the show, then have at it making him, and said mystery person whom I think is Leela, an item in your story...maybe a secret alternate chapter? Who knows. Your fic. And for the record I spelled "Here" wrong . I got what I deserved...

I'm working on a logo too. My plan is for an animated gif composed of framegrabs. But of course, the poll will have to decide on the best. Or, we could make a animated gif of all of our submitted logos... We'll have to wait and see what comes up. Let's see, our current active members are me, Zoidy, Shiny, Venus, Arkan, and hey, throw in Pedro and Ralph for good measure. ;)
Maybe we could be just the PEEL Shipper Community? And I could be the 'Resident Shipper'?

Once we get these submissions I'll start a poll. If you don't plan to submit one, tell me so I don't wait forever, and if you do plan to, tell me so I won't leave you out!

Maybe this logo contest could be like a every six months thing. Make it a tradition. It's time the shippers of PEEL unite and become recognized!

And as for my fic. I was not thinking of Leela. I'm a shipper! You insult me! (Goes on a wild rant and killing spree)

Edit: Oh yes, and don't forget PCC Fred!

How about "Intendant Commander of Shipping?" That way it's kind of a pun, too....

Well, I already called you the "Crown Prince" of Shippydom...perhaps, given the fact that you use  so often in regards to shippy things, you could be the "Prince of Wails."

I can make a pun out of my own name being Professor Shippiness or Shipper OR Professor of Shipping.... any one of those works for me fine. Oh and Xanfor, if you don't mind, if you make a poll, add mine in. How about yearly we change it or we can leave it to be an animated one of what we all make? That way, it has everyone's personal prefs and at the end it can say "PEEL Shipper Community Shipping up PEEL since 1999" or something like that?

I like the yearly idea. But the animated one is good too. Maybe both? However, some of the submissions may have to be resized if we do that. Either that or we'll have to define a standard aspect ratio. After I get them all together, I'll see what we have and try to come up with a set of rules. (We can all do that together on the poll thread)
Where's GermanFryFan? He was alway good at this sort of thing.

Edited because I forgot the shippy pic of the day!

We have a very special shippy pic of the day today... My shipper's logo!

<Xanfor's Shippy Logo V2.0 has been deleted at the desperate pleas request of others. A new, more family friendly version will appear shortly>

I decided against the animated thing. It's tedious to make and takes up a lot of file space. But this is Ok, right? ;)

If anyone has any ideas for the rules, tell me!

Hmm, I have a rule: No damned PNG files! They take forever to load on my computer (well, I can't blame it. It's about 7 years old, give or take a year or so...). Well, if you absolutely must , then not too terribly big...Maybe no bigger than 300x300 or so.
Also: Pictures with total sucky quality should be spoofed up a little in a painting program. Xanfor's is just before too crappy to use and needs to be scanned or whatever.

Other than that, don't sabotage the pic, etc., etc., and that's about it outta me for rules...

Mine's 320x240. Also, it's a jpg. Also, my computer is about 10 years old. And what what did you mean by 'Xanfor's is just before too crappy to use'? ;)
This was the original image before I spoofed it up in PaintShop. Note that at first glance my final version may seem poor quality, but look closly and you'll see that that's just Fry and Leela. The background is crystal clear. That's a DVD framegrab I'm working with! It don't get no better than that! I thought that portraying the couple slightly out-of-focus would be romantic... *sigh*

And as for file formats. I think it should be limited to jpgs and gifs. Good idea?

And now, the shippy pic of the day!

To be honest the fuzziness kinda makes my eyes hurt. and i'm confused by why some of their outlines are done in red or green instead of the normal black.

Edit: Okay, maybe i missed it posted somewhere but i'm too lazy to go look for it, what's the deal with the logo thingy, what will the logo be used for, does it need text, etc. I kinda got an idea for one but i'm not sure what we're even doing this for.

Ok, I'll try and make it less fuzzy. And the green and red... Well, you see, that's just the Doppler effect caused by the particular move the camera was making at the time, and... I'll try to get rid of that as well.

And the logo itself is just meant to represent the shippers of PEEL. No guidelines are given, except that it has to be not too big, shippy, and a jpg or a gif. We must unite and make our presence known! 'Officially united June, 2006', etc. (Translate the AL1 on mine)

And if there is no place to actually use the logo (although we're PEELers, so I doubt that we'll be unable to find places), it'll just be a tradition, like the POTM and the POTY.

Also, am I the only male here?

Edited because I can spell words like 'honorificabilitudinitatibus' and 'sexmilliaquingentsexagintilli on', but if the word has less than three letters, oh, the keyboard has it in for me.

The Xanforsthread Address

Two score and one years ago my mother brought forth on this continent a new fangirl(1), conceived in liberty,(2) who became dedicated (eventually) to the proposition that a remarkable ’Ship(3) was conceived for Futurama, and that this ’Ship is the True Love of Leela and Fry.

Now she is involved in a great fandom, testing whether that ’Ship, or any ’Ship so conceived and so written, can be discussed thoroughly into the ground. We are all met on a great forum known as PEEL. We have come to dedicate a portion of that forum as an especial blathering-place for those who here give their valuable free time(4) that this One True ’Ship might be grokked(5) in its fullness. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this, who says it isn’t?!

But, in a larger sense, we can not define -- we can not foresee -- we can not resolve -- this ’Ship. The brave creators, Matt & David and all the others who with them wrote the series, have already envisioned it, far above our poor powers to add or subtract.

The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what The Futurama Staff did (and shall now do so once more)(!). It is for us the fans, rather, to be dedicated here to exploring the ’Ship which They Who Created have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored writers we take increased devotion to that ’Ship for which they gave a reasonably full measure of effort -- that we here highly resolve that these writers shall not have written in vain -- that this ’Ship, under Groening, shall have a devoted portion of this fandom -- and that a fine animated science fiction action comedy drama containing Fry and Leela,(6) pairing Fry and Leela, and ’Shipping Fry and Leela, shall not go unpraised nor perish from this ’verse.(7)

(1) “a new fangirl...” Yeah, I think I was born fannish...the first song I learned to sing was the Batman theme(8), and my invisible companions were Ruff & Ready(9)

(2)”conceived in liberty ...” ...or at least while taking a few liberties :flirt:

(3) “a remarkable ’Ship...” if you’re tuning in late to the glory that is Futurama fandom, ’Ship is short for RelationShip (10)

(4) “valuable free time....” Valuable to SOMEBODY... sometime... somewhere in the world.... it could happen!

(5)”grokked....” “It’s from the books of Robert Heinlein, it’s a word in the language of his Martians, and it means roughly “to understand utterly, with all your being.” See here for more.

(6) “containing Fry and Leela,...” No detraction of any other character is implied by this statement! Of COURSE Bender and the rest of the cast are vital to Futurama as a whole; they’re just not centrally involved to the Fry&Leela ’Ship, and that is what we are discussing here. :)

(7)”...from this ’verse.” Short for “universe.” It’s from Firefly

(8) “first song...Batman theme...” If anyone’s interested, I pronounced it: “Loidle loidle loidle loidle Baa-baa!” (Hmmmm....didn’t think so. )

(9) “Ruff and Ready” (on reruns)

(10) “’Ship” in this usage originated in X-files fandom...and I’m not gonna elaborate any farther. Darned if I’ll do a footnote from a footnote from a footnote!

Well, somebody's written our constitution! I'm just not sure if we want to call ourselves the 'Xanforsthreadians'. ;)

And my fannishness is great as well, so Shiny, you're not an odd one out here. The first song I learned to sing was 'I Don't Want to Wait'. Hold on second, that's not fannish, unless you watch 'Dawson's Creek'... Hmm... I don't know how that got in there... Well, let's just say my childhood invisible companions were Nurse Chapel and Yeoman Rand. But hey, I was trying deduce who would make a better personal assistant, based on weither I was more like Kirk or more like McCoy. Spock? No, he never got the girl, so didn't want to be like him, now did I? But, guess who I admitted on in the end. Let's just say I haven't gotten the girl yet, but at least I can think clearly. (Unlike all the other guys. Can't stop staring, can they?)

And if one wishes to elaborate on Shiny's tenth footnote, one only needs to look through the earlier pages of this thread for more details.

And now, the shippy pic of the day, from an episode I believe should have been entitled, 'The Tell-Tale Heart'.

And, of course, the shippy quote!

Quote
Well, at least I've learned that Leela's a lost cause. I give up.

Which, of course, he doesn't actually believe in the slightest, and so becomes the redeeming point of the particular episode as well.

Anyway, I was once again looking over the 'Xanforsthread Address' (carefully this time, we all know what happened last time I reread something to fast...) and I noticed that footnote number five was kind of useless. I mean, sure, for stuff like the 'Firefly' reference, they were nice in showing how deep you had gone (in other words, YES), but having to explain 'Grok'? Anyone here who doesn't know what 'Grok' means should have their obssessed nerd status revoked.

(Naa, I'm just kidding. Go read Robert Heinlein's 'Stranger in a Strange Land'. Then you'll grok it. ;) )

Now, the extremely romantic shippy pic of the day!

OK, I have an anonymous connection with RDS who told me back a few months ago that Billy West was right about the new eps but was forced to make the retraction and is now under a gag order from FOX (as part of his contract) - he can't speak specifics about Futurama.

Maybe Sarge will come back and let us know if my source is full of shit or not.

This is what I've been told, and I've been given permission to share it on PEEL.

(BTW, PEEL is kinda looked upon as kooky by the members of the RDS board, so getting permission to share wasn't easy.)

First off, 1 DVD was a done-deal before CC entered negotiations. The reason CC paid a record $28.8 million dollars for the 5 year run (after it has run 5 years in heavy rotation on CN) was that they wanted to make new, edgier episodes. The deal was ironed out late last year for CC to have exclusive rights to Futurama from Jan 1, 2008 to Dec 31, 2012. CC now has the rights to buy new eps of Futurama in 13 episode batches (like they do with South Park) and air them exclusively for the contracted time. The rub is this: There will be 4 direct to market DVD's separate from the new episodes. CC has the rights to air the DVD's on a limited basis exclusively on CC 1 year after eqch is released - they may be broken up into a continuing saga rather than being aired as a 90 minute movie. FOX has given up all broadcast rights to CC until 2013 but will still own Futurama.

The CC deal makes CC pay the majority of the cost of producing the new episodes while FOX retains ownership. That's a sweet deal for FOX because the DVD's are sure to make huge profits with the rabid fanbase that already exists and somebody else is paying to produce new episodes, which are pretty well going to sell well on DVD.

The new eps on CC will be more mature in content - more of a PG-13 rating. Since CC is cable, the regulations are less strict than broadcast TV. FOX doesn't want to go much harder than that since they will still own the Series and may want to syndicate it out to broadcast TV stations after the CC deal has expired.

So according to my source, there will be at least 13 new eps with option to produce more in 13 episode batches and 4 DVD's.
Also, in either the last DVD or the new eps, the Leela/Fry romance arc will be settled in the very last episode aired and not before. In other words, when Futurama gets cancelled for the last time, we will have resolution of Fry and Leela.

I guess we know what the war of 2012 was about then... ;)

Who mourned during 'Parasites Lost'? Who suffered during 'Time Keeps on Slippin''? Who couldn't stop weeping for a week after 'Leela's Homeworld'? Ok, so I'm a very sensitive person! I actually cried myself to sleep with happiness after 'Love & Rocket'! And don't get me started on 'The Sting'! What happened after 'The Farnsworth Parabox' anyway?

We now pause to bring you these subliminal messages:

You know, before this thread, I'd almost forgotten how this show could obsess people. Even me, once upon a time. Thank you, Xanfor.

Don't expect me to contribute anything, though. I may be a shipper, but I'm a very quiet one in case you hadn't noticed.

Hi everyone, I'm new so I want to keep this short.

I just finished watching the series about a week ago. (I didn't pay Futurama much mind till a friend told me to check it out.) It was a powerful experience to say the least. When the credits started rolling on "The Devil's Hands are Idol Playthings" I had a bad case of the shakes. I now realise, thanks to the discovery of this board that I was bit by the shipper bug. I haven't had the time to analyze the Fry + Leela ship as long as some, but I'll post a few cursory points that I got from the first pass.

First, Leela is traped into crappy guys by her own standards for a man. (Not that they are too high, just that they leave no room for being unique.)
Second, Leela is afraid of loving Fry because no one has ever treated her as well as Fry.
Third, Fry and Leela were drawn for each other.

BTW nice fanfic Shiny.
