I would think the computer no9man... Could be you hitting a key or some such? I remember something else that did that... but I can't remember. Is it the same computer or other computers? Also, what browser?
Bianca... I assume you try the PEEL chat. Most of the people that hang out there regularly have their own clients (a program on their computer) to get access to the chatroom.... but using them is a little confusing for most newcomers. If you would like to try one of those options, I use mIRC, and others use XChat2.... I believe XChat2 is freeware right now.... mIRC is nagware... used to be freeware, now it whines about registering, but is still completely functional.
However... as I said, you'd be playing around with new things, and I'd ask you to look it up and read about it first. If you'd like to try other applets, I can recommend these.
SSF ChatGopher's ChateuIRC Java ChateuIRC Web ChatThe first one is the one I use for SSF... it uses java similarly to the PEEL applet, but is slightly different. Fill in the name field, scroll down, and click the
Chat button.
The second one is a java applet hosted by our very own Gopher. The backbone works essentially the same as the SSF one... just fill in the username and click
Log In. The only real difference between the two is aesthetics.... also I stole the one I use for SSF from Gopher... so I should probably mention it.
The third one is euIRC's java applet. It also uses java, but it's hosted by the network we use (#futuramachat is on the euIRC network), so you might have more luck. Scroll down to the bottom and click
accept. Fill in your nickname, choose a channel, and click
Chat. It doesn't matter what channel you choose, because #futuramachat isn't an option. You will have to type
/join #futuramachat after it connects to reach #fc; people can help you out after that. Note that I've never used this one... so I'm not familiar with how it looks or how things work with it.
The last one is also hosted by euIRC.... it isn't java based, so you really might have luck with it; I know I have in the past. Scroll down and click
accept. On the next page, fill in your nickname... then go to pick a channel like the euIRC java one... Fortunately enough, #futuramachat is an option with this chat applet... it's at the bottom. Then click
Chat.
For the record, the PEEL and CGEF chat applets are both exactly the same.... so if you have problems with one, then you'll have problems with the other.
You might also be able to search for more IRC related stuff and possibly other web browser chat applets on your own. I think the Mozilla browser has one packaged with it.... but the four option I provided
should be able to help you out.
Let me know how things go, and I'll see if I can't be of more help.
