Um... I think Rage and his ilk's point was that online petitions and such don't work, and shouldn't really be bothered with. THAT'S what annoys longtime PEEL users. And hey, they were right about that.

EDIT: Top of the page SMASH!

Have I mentioned that I love Canadians lately?

Groening has confirmed it, has he Shortround?  When, precisely, did he say that the film was greenlighted for development.  As far as I know, and as far as anyone else I know knows, it's still in talks as of this moment.  However, it's deep enough in talks for IMDB to be projecting a release date, and I like to think of it as an optimist, so ALRIGHT!

For the record, this from RDS Insider just today:

No Guest, it's not true.
And just because IMDb posts it doesn't make it true either.
Sorry, but there hasn't been any real progress for weeks now...so I wouldn't be celebrating just yet.

So slow it down a bit guys....send e-mails or snail mail, buy a dvd set or something, but don't think this is totally confirmed yet...

He might have just been playing mind games with the Fox people buy "confirming" it... or something. I'm not sure if that makes sense at all. I suck at creating an articulating thoughts. Oh well, I hope there is some point hidden here in my post that someone will understand because I don't know what i'm talking about.I'm really sorry for even submitting this.

Why should we give up faith because of someone with no more credibility then someone on this forum? That could have easily been said here and it would hold just as much weight.

Anyone giving up faith?

Not me.  I'm just back to being a bit more jaded.  And writing a very angry email to IMDb if the movie does fall through.

But I hope it doesn't.

Hmmmm...maybe because the person in question works at the studio where the movie would be made? Perhaps he knows things that you don't...maybe? Use your brain, Shorty, I think that makes him a wee more credible than someone on this forum.
Besides, he didn't say the movie's not happening, he said it's not greenlit yet and cautioned not to celebrate prematurely. I think it's good advice. To start crowing "I told you so" without any concrete evidence to back it up makes you just as bad as the people whose face you're throwing it in.
Believe me, I'm just as excited as anyone here for the movie to move forward -- nothing would delight me more than to come to this board and post: "FUTURAMA MOVIE -- IT'S A GO!" But until that day, I'm remaining quietly optimistic and taking rumors with a grain of salt.

He could have said Raindrop Studios instead of "RDS" which sounds like one of those movie rumor sites. Don't you tell me to use my brain, idiot.

[Biff]Hello! McFly?![/Biff] Shorty, we've been taking most of our cues from the RDS message board this whole time, ever since the rumor of the two scripts first surfaced. It’s what first gave us actual hope. It was a pretty safe assumption that you knew what it was, so don’t get all uppity that you somehow missed that.  Note how what rakko says lines up with what mArc says that Cohen said.  These are our credible sources.

Anyway, as I mentioned, what RDS posted is exactly what mArc already said, so  why would my overall level of hopefulness change?  Still optimistic, though cautiously.

(Slack… well, geez… now I’m just plain curious… it's 'cause you called them fat, wasn't it...)

Allow me to summarize:

We're hearing encouraging noises from some of those 'in-the-know'.
Said 'encouraging noises are NOT confirmed, objective fact.
They are rumors; credible rumors, yes, but rumors none-the-less.

Not fact.

Bottom line:
Don't crack open the bubbly just yet... but you might want to put it in the fridge...  ;)
What's the current mantra for gettin' our show back?

Not being in show biz I don't know if this is typical of start-up woes or not. I guess a natural question is, is RDS involved from the very start or is there a lot that happens elsewhere first? Conventional fan "wisdom" is sort of like everybody drives over to the RDS Studio on Monday and an episode pops out Friday. Even if Fox said OK wouldn't a lot of things have to go through sign talent, extimate/bid production set of cycles?

And as soon as I hear anything here at "Raindrop Studios", I'll let you guys know. (Sorry Shorty, I couldn't resist...I'm just bustin' your balls a little...you're good people!)

I've just checked out imdb and they've confirmed it for a 2007 release, I still don't know who's writing or directing, but I'm pretty sure the voice cast is all coming back

Wow. I'm not sure what to say. No matter the outcome, this whole cancellation/possible return thing has been a roller coaster of emotions for us fans, urban legends and newbies alike. I can only hope that all our enthusiasm won't be flushed down the toilet like curled-up millipedes...

Word of the movie "rumors" are spreading around the internet everywhere. We are one of the few forums I know that still don't believe in the movie.

That's because we have more complete, accurate info though.  At other boards, they just read the IGN article and assumed it was 100 percent true.  Here we have Marc to clarify, and knowledge of the RDS board as well.

Completely random fact about David X. Cohen: the top five subjects on his IMDB board are all regarding "bring back Futurama."  These include:
"For the Love of God, Please Give Us Futurama Back."
"PLEASE BRING BACK FUTURAMA!!!" and
"FUTURAMA"

I feel special.

IGN is notorious for making stuff up about shows returning when they're not - I heard exactly the same thing about another show that was cancelled and supposed to be returning caused all sorts of rumours amongst the fans and turned out to be utter rubbish. Seems they don't verify some of the stuff their journo's print on their site.

Well, keep in mind it was a video of Billy West saying that Futurama was coming back...not just something a random IGN person wrote.

Yeah, in this case I don't blame IGN.  They got that directly from a slightly overenthusiastic West, and there wasn't neccesarily any reason for them to believe that it wasn't true.  They are too trigger happy when reporting some rumors, but I think they can sort of get a pass here, especcially since what they reported is close to true (the difference is that the movie is being talked about, as opposed to it actually being completely greenlit)

Billy West just posted this on his forum:  http://www.billywest.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1062&PN=1&TPN=3

"I'm doing another M&M's campaign starting Monday.New Tom & Jerry release out on DVD soon and gearing up to record Futurama."

Don't know if this means a recording sessions actually been planned or if he's just preparing in anticipation.

It's obviously not going to happen. Billy West knows a lot less about Futurama then the skeptics here. We should continue to exercise caution and continue to not believe in this completely unsubstantiated rumor.

Nobody's saying it's unsubstantiated.  No one's saying it's a rumor.  What we're saying is that Fox has not given it the greenlight YET.  Obviously they must be pretty close considering West's postings, HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that it's been totally confirmed YET.  We've heard from sources like David Cohen and animators at Rough Draft that the greenlight hasn't been given quite yet....what is so hard to understand about that?
