Did you ever think that the folks at RDS are busy working?
Or at least busy sharing the love with those of you tough enough to leave a post on that fancypants RDS message board. Quit your lurking, guesstimates, and buffoonary. Stop by and ask the real questions.

Well, they can't answer the "real" question. I do wonder if their studio tours include a petting zoo though.

if you want a petting zoo, you'll get a petting zoo.
there is plenty of heavy petting around RDS.
just ask for lois and rachel.

Here's a thought peelers, instead of speculating all day about the dvd or not to dvd, why not start a thread about possible Futurama movie plots? Give it your best shot, studs.

John Maggio speaks about Futurama coming back to DVD.

I was listening to an audio commentary of Kim Possible, featuring John DiMaggio who plays the voice of Dr. Drakken.  About 26 mins into the commentary, DiMaggio is asked about Futurama and goes into some detail about FOX and David X. Cohen.

The commentary is recent, since it mentions "So The Drama" already had been aired "a few months ago".

The commentary is located at this thread on the 5th page.

I'm planning on majoring in creative writing and I guess that's how I post, it's just natural for me.  I have no plans for being a magazine writer, BTW.

In any event, I just wanted to be very informative about this tit-bit.

Awesome.  In case anybody wants to know what's said but doesn't want to download the clip, it pretty much goes like this:

Someone tells John DiMaggio about a report they heard that Futurama was coming back straight to DVD, and they ask him if that's true.  John then says how he was at the 350th Simpsons episode party, and spoke to David X. Cohen and Matt Groening, who both said that are doing straight to DVD movies.  He then said, "I think what they're gonna do is, they're gonna do these movies, that will be of their quality, and if FOX wants to put them on, then yeah, they'll put them on."  He then comments how he hasn't heard anything contract-wise, but once he signs his name down he'll be "singing in the streets for that gig."

Sounds verrrrry good...

Sounds like the idea is more like regluar comic book releases than a theatrical wing ding. Cool. TV news is full stories about how movie theaters are going down the tubes, except for Star Wars, because people are either waiting 'til the DVD comes out or are playing video games.

That first thing didn't sound too real, but ever since then, we've gotten word from Billy, David, and John AND RDS that there might be a DVD, and an almost confirmation from John. This...sounds...sweet. I almost typed sweat there. I hope that they might show the movies on Fox...or on a better channel, like HBO or something. It would be funny to see Futurama on HBO.

Yes, RDS is a wealth of tantalizing chatter and legally limited information.  Here’s the latest.

Once again, the good folks at the RDS site have been quite reliable in shooting down rumours in the past. So, unless they're feeling extra evil recently, I'd take their word for it.

I have to admit that I didn't believe this rumor when it was first posted here (I hoped it was true, but I didn't really believe it). But, as this thread goes on, we're getting a lot of information, each piece more credible than the last.

I have to say, I really think this could be happening. I mean, at least they're talking to Fox. I mean, it can't do them any harm, can it?

Still, I don't think I'm gonna throw my Happy Party of Joy until we get a little more info (but I already bought the streamers, so that should tell you something...)

I think it brings up more questions.  I know we have heard conformations about the movie being for Futurama, but what if it is all just a mistake, and a Simpsons movie is behind all of this.

That Simpsons movie thing is interesting, especially with the timing of all this.  But still...  I have a hard time believing that both Billy West and John DiMaggio, claiming to have spoken with Groening/Cohen, both received wrong information somehow.  I just don't see how it could wind up to be a "mistake" when Groening himself (according to DiMaggio) has said that they were planning on doing a Futurama movie.

I don't know, I just hope we hear something soon...

I agree waffy, it would be hard to believe that everything we have heard was all speculation towards a Simpsons movie, but at the same time its just another..."Guh, what the hell" type of feeling.

The Simpsons movie has been known about for some time.  It was around February (I think) of 2004 that Mike Reiss first confirmed it was in the works.  They're being very tight lipped about details, which is why you may have not heard about it at all, but its definitely not what's been going on here since its already been going on for a while (and has been worked on as a theatrical movie, not a dvd one).  Billy West and John Dimaggio both talked to Groening and Cohen (the latter of which either wouldn't be involved with The Simpsons movie at all, or might just consult and contribute a couple lines or something), and got specific answers regarding Futurama, so I think the Futurama movies are definitely a seperate discussion and project.  Nancy Cartwright just happened to bring up The Simpsons movie at that moment.  Though, I could maybe see that The Simpsons movie finally being made somehow inspired Groening to push for Futurama movies as well, since it was originally a struggle to get The Simpsons one off the ground.

All this stroking about a possible Simpson's movie has made this thread so over stimulating! Wanna know why I want a Futurama dvdmoviewatchamacallit to happen? Let me tell you friends, believers, sinners, and taints! Cause I wanna get naked and roll around with a cheap (yes, I mean cheap!) Puerto Rican hooker in  all that sweet wet green Futurama money. mmmmmmmm. yea.
And then I'd take pictures. And I wouldn't post em, but I'd graphically explain em to ya. Yep, right here on good old PEEL.
But then you'd kick me out. And I'd love it. And get that special private place feeling everytime I think about you all.
Here's to hope!

Or he could just go out on the street and people would throw their jewels and money to him.

This whole Futurama/Simpsons Movie thing reminds me of Blue Harvest. Maybe the Futurama Movie is just a coverup, like the name Blue Harvest was, for a different movie, like Return of the Jedi. Probally not, and hopefully not. It would "inhale deeply" if that was true. I just hope that Matt will give equal time to both if they both happened at the same time.

What was Blue Harvest supposed to be about anyway? Were people looking forward to it and disappointed whenever they found out it wasn't a real movie?

Nah, it was just a dumb horror movie title ("Blue Harvest: Horror Beyond Imagination" ), and I don't think they ever gave it an actual plotline or anything.  They just made it up to try to keep excited fans from mobbing the sets when they were filming Return of the Jedi (since it was such an anticipated movie, for obvious reasons), and made up "Blue Harvest" jackets and hats and whatnot.  It was just a way of throwing of people who were nearby and keep them from sneaking on set and getting secrets about the movie and whatnot.  They wouldn't even be able to do that now though, considering the internet.

So, no one cared about "Blue Harvest".  They cared about "Return of the Jedi", which is why the BH name exsisted at all.

And The Simpsons movie isn't a secret at all (the PLOT is, but that's different), so no way this is some elaborate way of hiding it.
