They better decide fast, I'm leaving for Trysil Saturday (7 days of skiing, woooooooo!), and my Friday and Saturday are fully booked from the loooks of it. What I'm saying is; me first entry will suck, or not appear at all.

I hope no CGEF framegrabs will be choosen. Those are not the best of quality.

Sorry for the double post/random quotes, but if this works right, all the judges will see they have responses and check this thread.

If any of you judges can find a good framegrab to use or anything, e-mail me at elzilcho25@yahoo.com and I'll try to sort it all out. Sorry it has to work out like this, but this is probably the only way we can all communicate. I'll try make sure you guys can confirm the final pic before it's posted. If you absolutely have to get grabs from CGEF, I'll try to clean it up before I post it.

Hopefully we can finish this up by tomorrow (Thursday). Thank you.

Sorry for the delay. I only got an e-mail from two judges, one of them by proxy. Since I'm already running late, I may as well skip the confirmations and post the pic.

{EDIT: See Xmpel's framegrab below}

If a lot of people think this is entirely too difficult, I have a backup. But for right now, this should be a nice challenge.     :)

I cleaned up the pic as much as I could. It doesn't look that bad when you zoom in, so it should be alright to scan.

Is there any chance of getting a higher quality version of that grab? I prefer working with pictures that hasn't been so horribly mauled by the JPEG algoritm.

Oh, and like Hil, I was kind of expecting some of the characters to be involved in this contest.

You could take the grab yourself as you always do and then say you made it from that grab.

I would, if I knew the episode. Making a scan from the current framegrab is not an option if I want to keep my sanity.

With the framegrab as it is right now: No.

I know I'm complaining a bit, but I though the point of the contest was to create a scan as visually appealing as possible, not to find the most impossible to scan framegrab.

That's a lot better, Xmpel. I didn't have the proper equipment for a proper framegrab, so I had to try to clean up a crappy one (which is apparently really hard).

On the topic of the framegrab itself: If more contestants have a real problem with it, I'll pull out the backup (with characters and such). For right now though, you can probably use Xmpel's grab and get the job done. Good luck. (And I apologize for not having the grab in time, Teral. I tried.)

@Xmpel
Thank you so much. Your DVD grab makes a world of difference. So sharp! *kisses Swedish neighbour profusely*

(heh, julemanden.jpg)

That framegrab is filled with small, intricate details. 640x480 really isn't going to do the scans any justice.

I'll decide on the framegrab tomorrow when I'm well rested and less cranky.    :) Sorry about being a bother.

EDIT to respond to Zilcho's post:

The reason why I prefer something involving characters is because it gives me a much better opportunity to work with skin tones and shading than architecture does. Xmpel's grab does improve my mood a whole lot, though.

Please those who finish dont post the scans yet, because its easier to see details in a scan than in a framegrab and also if you post it before it will be easier for the other contestants to see what you did wrong and theyd improve it, so please AXL Id recommend you to edit your post.

If only the judges vote, how will we stay organized with a fluctuating amount of us?

I have a question for Neffy as well. When, exactly, do we have to turn in our submissions?

Your first post says something about five days. Does this mean the deadline is Wednesday?

I think judges were just head figures for the whole contest, they pick the framegrab and whatnot.  I think a poll for the voting would be the best method, ala potm like El Zilcho said....

edit: for Axl...

I think ElZilcho is right, we can do it PotM style,
For the other ones who asked when the scans have to be posted,
As I've said before, 5 days after the judges posted the framegrab, maybe more since it's a little bit harder than what I thought. I was thinking of something involving the characters, with more expressions and not so dead as a city, something with more feelings involved, because with the framegrab judges choosed, I think many of the scans will be very, very similar, if not the same, since you cannot change it a lot.

But I think 5 days is enough.

Not to mention that this is by far the most time consuming scan I have ever made. Please, judges, the next time choose something along the lines of what Neffy is talking about. I most certainly don't have time for scans of this complexity in the future.
