So somebody explain to me why the midseason break is twice as long as the postseason break?  That's the part that annoys me.

nix: because it's basic cable. This way they have less direct competition with major network programming.

time for another gripe.

Ok, they're collecting Ba'als. They compare their genes and find two of them to be identical. They conclude either the clones are perfect, or these are both clones. If the clones are identical to eachother, wouldn't that mean the cloning process was perfect, i.e., produced no errors? Otherwise the clones, through some fluke, have exactly the same imperfections?

And second of all...

"We'll have to use the ventilation system to distribute the gas, and, you know, it's not really designed for that sort of thing."

...

Your ventilation system was designed for something besides distributing gasses evenly? If there were dead sectors not evenly circulated by the system, you'd think they'd already know about it, what with the need to bring your own oxygen to survive in them....

He probably meant with respect to deadly gases not being regualrly used in the system, and not exactly evenly. Sure the oxeygen levels would spread in from other areas and balance out weaker ventilated areas, but they wanted to get em all at once..

I can't believe I'm discussing the SGCs ventilation systems.

Also, I didn't see the episode, but I assume the deadly gas had a different density from normal atmosphere, and therefore might not spread evenly.

Also, watch The Quest on TiVo.  Good, but predictable.  Then again, it's a Grail Quest.  They're all pretty much the same.  I even figured out that

Faze & Nerd-o: I suppose; just sounded like an odd thing to say to me. In an enclosed underground base, I'd expect the life support systems to be pretty robust; it seems like isolating the atmosphere of a few sections should be a simple automatic procedure. If it's not, they didn't plan the structure very well. Besides, as quickly as the gas took effect (ba'als collapsed almost instantly when the could touched them), seems they could've carried compressed tanks and just sprayed it, if even circulation was such a problem.

Double-post apologies...

Watching "Company of Theives" according to SciFi, "the Odyssey is attacked and siezed by a former of the Lucian alliance, promptiong Mitchell to embark on an undercover mission to reclaim the vessel."

What?

You have to remember that the gas may not be exactly the same atomic weight as oxygen which is a comparitively light gas to say a heavy poisonous cloud, plus you have to factor in there is now air current as such. now i'm nerded out!

Nix: Yeah, me too. Checked the date, that was the same drunken night I made the whiny, barely-coherent post to the relationships thread, and the completely incoherent response to Gocad in Politics.

I'm not sure if I just stopped writing before I got to my point, or if my point was a drunken figment. All I know for sure is, at the time, I thought it was brilliant and insightful.

The fact that it's the "secret ingredient" to much of O'Neill's cooking (a BBQ, an omlette, "surveillence food" and "food substitute" ) does tend to support your theory.

Finally, I got myself Season 8 on DVD. Now that I've seen Moebius Part One, Part Two makes more sense (thanks to the TV and the Internet, I've only seen about half of Season 8 previously, and they were all sorts of out of order).

Now I have to wait until I have some money so that I can order Atlantis on DVD. So far I've seen smatterings of it, and all that I know is there are some seriously hot aliens out there.

Also, is SG1 Season 9 out on Region 2 DVD yet? I only ask because I can't find it at WH Smith.

Oh yeah.  Jackson certainly has the best taste in future possessed chicks.  Of course, he schtupped Hathor too, but that's a slightly different category.

I always found Hathor hot, though, except for the stupid hairdo.  I will admit, after watching Firefly, that her pheromone schtick seems less cool after you've seen a (more attractive) woman accomplish the same thing with articulation and nakedness.

Watching episodes like "Fire and Water" and "Nox" made me realize just how many times main characters have been killed and/or left for dead.  Damn, but these guys die a lot.
