I've said it before, and I'll say it again...I adore season 10. Almost every episode in that season feels like a classic to me.

The only episodes I would say I don't care much for in that season are Sunday Cruddy Sunday, The Old Man And The C Student, and Monty Can't Buy Me Love. But others that people have mentioned in here as ones they hate are some of my favorites...ones like When You Dish Upon A Star, Kidney Trouble, Viva Ned Flanders, Screaming Yellow Honkers, Simpsons Bible Stories, and Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo.

That's the thing. Those three episodes are probably the weakest of Season 10, but I'd still pick them over almost everything aired nowadays on the show. Alot of the episodes in that season are really underrated to me. Some of my favourites are the ones you mentioned, too.

I don't really care for either one. Simpson Tide was a horrible indication of the ridiculous, cartoony direction in which the show was heading; it tried so hard on all of the jokes and most of them fell flat. Though given that "Kidney Trouble" is FULL of jerk-ass Homer, I'd probably rank the former a little higher than it.

Maybe if it was 22 minutes of Homer and Bart saying "Shame on You" back and forth you'd like it.

How is Homer so jerk in "Kidney trouble"? He's just very afraid and he's also remorseful. Even though it's depicted humorously as repeating joke of Homer disappearing at the last minute, it's shown he's coward and he feels bad about it. It's not nice at all what Homer did, but it's not as being jerk.

It's better than Simpson Tide.

People hate "Simpsons Bible Stories"? That's one of my favorite episodes of the post-classic seasons, and easily my favorite of the non-THOH, non-canon trilogies (I say "non-canon" because obviously the best non-THOH trilogy-type episode, period, is "Trilogy of Error"). I do have to admit to being pretty meh--if not outright hate-filled--about the rest of the episodes on that list, though; I watched "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo" with commentary a few months ago, and I believe even the writers admitted it is a thoroughly jumbled mess. I think it's one of the worst episodes in the "The Simpsons are going to [insert country here]!" genre--hell, I think I'd rank the much-maligned "Simpson Safari" above it. That one I find genuinely amusing, if not thoroughly ludicrous.

Simpsons Bible Stories is one of the better non-ToH triptych episodes the show has done, but it started a really bad trend for... well, MORE non-ToH triptych episodes. Most of which were fucking awful. :hmpf:

I don't love "Simpson Tide" or anything (though if people are holding it up as an example of Scully's shitty show-running, it's worth pointing out that it was actually produced by Jean and Reiss), and I don't enjoy it more than "Lisa the Simpson," but I honestly don't think either episode is particularly awesome. "Lisa the Simpson" is sweet but kind of inconsequential, and the subplot doesn't really do much for me. It's one of my favorites of season nine, to be sure, but it's not a top-25-ish episode for me in the same way "Lost Our Lisa" is.

I can see why people don't like Simpson Tide. It's got a lot of cheap jokes and some recycled ones, and is a bit overly cartoony for its own good. That said, it still has a number of jokes that positively make me die of laughter. Pretty much anything with Grandpa in that episode is gold, particularly "Ich bin ein Berliner." "He's a nazi! Get him!" as well as "My Homer is not a communist. He may be a liar, a pig, an idiot, a communist, but he is not a porn star!"

As for Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo, it is a bit of a mess but a lot of the jokes genuinely make me laugh. I'd personally take it over Simpson Safari any day. Keep in mind that the list of season 10 episodes I like weren't necessarily all my top favorites from that season, but just ones that I like a lot that I've seen other people trash. Beamer had pointed out most of my real favorites in his post before mine.

I don't disagree with the first part of your statement, but I will say that I also think season ten is pretty low on hits. "Lard of the Dance," "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace," "Bart the Mother," "Simpsons Bible Stories," and "Mom and Pop Art" are the only episodes I truly love, and "Lisa Gets an 'A'" and "They Saved Lisa's Brain" are also decent. Everything else is forgettable-to-awful, though, in my opinion.

I can't think of an all-time "funniest moment of The Simpsons" off the top of my head, but it'd probably be something Grampa-related from season 4 or 5.

I'm also unreasonably fond of the "The bee bit my bottom! Now my bottom's big!"

And "This DOES taste like grandma!" (as much as I dislike the rest of that episode, that quote is pure gold)

My personal favorite Simpsons moment...

Shopkeeper: Take this object, but beware it carries a terrible curse!
Homer: Ooh, that's bad.
Shopkeeper: But it comes with a free frogurt!
Homer: That's good.
Shopkeeper: The frogurt is also cursed.
Homer: That's bad.
Shopkeeper: But you get your choice of toppings.
Homer: That's good!
Shopkeeper: The toppings contain potassium benzoate.
Homer: ...
Shopkeeper: ...That's bad.
Homer: Can I go now?

Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo is one of the best travel episodes easily. It's probably one of the last that has any clever jokes left, like when Marge tells Homer he liked Rashomon and responds with "That's not how I remember it!" None of the current writers could pull off a joke like that.

Season four is one of the best seasons ever, I think, so I doubt you'll be disappointed. Seasons six, seven, and eight are also pretty spectacular, if you find yourself wanting to watch more once you're done with S4. I mean, I don't think you can really go wrong with anything from the first eight seasons, but I think the run of episodes that comprises seasons six through eight is probably the highest point of the series.

I'd say go up to Season 12, then stop watching after. The show gets really bad in Season 13.
