Yes, but it's mainly a thread for people who like the show to talk about it and review the new episodes. If you don't like it, and only post about your hatred towards the show - people aren't listen to you. On topic or not, individual show threads are really just for fans of the show. Hell, I don't go into the thread for every show I hate and just complain about them.

Backup? Okay. REASONS WHY FAMILY GUY 2.0 SUCKSa) The "cutaway" jokes go on too long. For example, the caveman argument in last Sunday's episode. b) Overusing the cameos. Ollie Williams was funny ONCE. Greased-up Deaf Guy was funny ONCE. Creepy Old Man was funny, I'unno, a couple of times. Sticking them into every episode just means you have no ideas. c) Character assassination. Lois, the moral center of the show, have lost pretty much every shred of character she ever had. Brian's become a closet racist. Stewie's pretty much become an endless "gay baby" joke. And Meg seems to exist for no reason other than to be the butt of every insult. Yeah, The Simpsons has been doing the same to its characters... and y'know what? It took them 10 seasons to do it. Family Guy took FOUR. What did it for me? The vomit scene. It was just... vomiting. For three minutes. That's not funny. It's not even EDGY. It's just LAZY. American Dad OWNS Family Guy lately. You know why? Because Family Guy no longer bothers to try.

I don't think the new Family Guy episodes are THAT bad (though I haven't seen Breaking Out is Hard to Do or any episode following that), though I definitely agree that American Dad is the better show now, and the writers for FG are really beginning to run out of ideas. What made Family Guy so great was its unexpected randomness. It's not random if it's the same old crap over and over again - it's just lazy writing. All Family Guy really has to offer is its humour, without that, it's got nothing. I'm hoping it's just a dry spell in the writing and the show will pick up soon... Hell, I never expected the show to be brilliant with its return - it's had a few good episodes, but for each good one, there's 2 average ones.

It depends on the cut-away, honestly, but I do see where Kryten is going with it. I remember the argument concerning "the rake scene" in the Simpsons, where Sideshow Bob keeps accidentally stepping on rakes for a good 30 seconds. There is a point where drawing a joke out becomes funny, then stops being funny, then becomes funny again.
Family Guy doesn't know when to stop, though. Some of the jokes deserve to be drawn out (the Will Ferral/"Bewitched" bit), but others are just examples of lazy writing. I sense that the writers really aren't good at filling up the 22 minutes of show, so they have to pull the Chicken out again, or whatever. I'd rather there be five good jokes in a minute instead of one super-long stretched out joke. If they didn't use drawn-out jokes all the time, perhaps we wouldn't be having this argument. However, it seems like that's the crutch FG uses.

Got around to picking up the Family Guy DVD, and I found it absolutely hilarious. Definitely some of the best humor that show has produced...

They won't be - if they were, they'd have aired by now. It was originally supposed to be a 3-parter in Season 4 (to air half-way through the season), but instead became the movie, with filler at the beginning, middle and end. Why would they air these episodes as part of the show's line-up a season late, especially when they're trying to back money by having the footage exclusive to DVD?

THAT'S why it's bad. While it does mean less writing, it can still be hilarious. Remember the season 3 ep where Peter bangs his knee. Tell me that would have been just as hilarious had it not been dragged out super long. I got V1 fully loaded, I watched a bit of commentary and was relieved to know that I'm not the only one who, during the intro, interprates "laugh & cry" as "F-ing cry".

I do agree that sometimes unrelated scenes last too long. When that happens, shows lose the audience. I still like Family Guy though. I don't think Family Guy is anything like The Simpsons. Maybe the idea was to attract people who like family type cartoons, perhaps even away from the Simpsons.

Just saw Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story. It was decent. Nothing brilliant, but consistent in the laugh department, and had plenty of good moments. The only downside is that there are WAY too many cameos from "should've-been-one-off" characters, and a few too many re-used jokes from other episodes. Also, you can tell where the three original episodes start and finish, and given that the sub-plots with the rest of the family only cover one original episode each and just sort of fizzle out afterwards (eg. Peter becoming a news reporter), the structure seems way off. I know it's pretty much to be expected, but still, you thought that if they were putting it together into a movie, they'd have fixed it up a bit more. Also, Peter farting was the worst possible way to end it, too. Still, those complaints aside, it was pretty good. Much better than the recent stuff Family Guy's been dishing out, that's for sure. It never promised to be anything other than a good laugh, and that's exactly what it was. Still, it would've been nice if it offered a little more, that's all.
