Leela Region: #1 Turanga Leela vs #3 Robot Devil

Who'll move on to the finals? The sexy space pilot Leela, who's escape the jaws of death far too often for a 1-seed? Or the Robot Devil, who likely has jaws of death? Discuss now and the poll opens at noon Sunday.

Hey, she got 2/3 of the vote last time. Not terrible, not terrible.

I will continue to stand solidly in support of Leela, whom I think is a more complex, interesting, and thought-provoking character than the Robot Devil, which alone is enough reason to make me vote for her.

I only voted for Leela last time as a protest vote because Nixon lost against Lrrr prior to that.  I realise, Nixon might still have lost against Leela, but it was a matter of principle.

This time, however, I believe Lrrr lost fair and square; Leela does have a lot of people going squeeeeee.  So now I will vote for the Robot Devil, because I am not as excited about Leela as I was back in the day.  Her character seems rather bland and I am not really sure what her motivation is any more.  At least the Robot Devil has a consistent motivation: do evil.  And you gotta respect that, so he gets my vote.

Also Leela has become more of a mediocre character a lot of times and an annoying cunt.

Leela is my favorite character, and though I really don't believe she stands a chance against the (strangely beloved) Robot Devil, I shall vote for her anyway (for the reasons spira outlined).

She may no know how to play the fiddle, but she used to play the the drums--and they're sort of similar.

As I already stated: Later Leela still is not good enough to cope for early-days-we-have-an-overperfect-character-with-no-more-design-concept-than-being-superior-to-anyone-else-Leela in season 1 and some of season 2.

I could forgive that, but they often used to use other characters around Leela as complete morons to show how "great" she was. And having one -imHO- boring character that also pulled down OTHER (far more interesting and more entertaining) characters to her level, making them also one-sided and unentertaining...

Nope, at least one more solid Leela season is imhO needed to compensate for those early flaws...

Actually, no, that was because he's funnier. I will readily admit that the Robot Devil is hilarious and Leela is not, but that is because humor is not Leela's thing. There's a reason Leela had the last line in that episode (and therefore the whole original run) - because she contributes a lot to the heart of the show.

Not a lot to add here...Spira makes a good point and many of the best episodes either center around Leela or wouldn't be the same without her...buuut I do subtract points for the bitchiness. That, and the sporadic attention paid to the Fry/Leela relationship by the writers makes her seem like a total whore sometimes. Robot Devil is more likeable, I think he'll win by a couple votes.

Agreed.  1000%!   They wanted to show to go out on a serious, deep note (Leela)...not a funny, 1-liner (Robot Devil).  Also keep in mind girls can get bitchy from time to time.

I want to see how it ends.

I third what spira said. I mean, Leela and the Robot Devil serve two completely different functions (in both "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" and the series as a whole): if you want to vote for the more hilarious character, the Robot Devil is definitely your guy; if you want to to vote for the character who is more complex and emotionally-grounded and relatable, then you should go with Leela.

There's nothing wrong with voting for hilarity over substance, but in this case I have to go with the character who I find more intellectually and emotionally compelling, and that's Leela. (And, hey, she has her funny moments. See: "The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz" and "Less Than Hero.")

I really like the Robot Devil, but I actually voted for Leela here. That's partially because I feel like she deserves more love than she's been shown thus far, and partially because I know that my favorites to win would beat her easily in a match-up.
