Fry Region: #2 Zapp Brannigan vs #7 Sal

It's the Zapp versus Sal in the final Fry Region Quarterfinal match-up. The Big Z has only gotten two votes against him in the last two rounds, defeating the Police Chief and the Brain Spawn quite handily. Sal has similarly dispatched his foes, defeating Phnog and actually more easily defeating the Mayor in the second round. Who'll move on to the semis? Zapp doesn't put S's on the end of all of his words. However, he did make it with a hot alien babe. And in the end is that not what man has dreamt of since first he looked up at the stars?

Zapp is just an overall fun character, every episode he is in. Sal is a good character too, but I doubt he could ever carry an episode as Zapp did many times.

Zapp, easily. Sal's schtick can get kind of irritating (though he's been well-used at points; I particularly enjoy his appearances in "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" and "Parasites Lost"), whereas Zapp is consistently awesome.

I'll be voting for the Zapper as well. He's the human version of Calculon (completely full of himself and cocky). I love how Billy adds an extra syllable to most of Zapp's words: that's how into himself Zapp is!

Zapp. I'm rooting for Zapp to win overall.

Basically, if I were a space captain, I would be a lot like Zapp. He's got a lot of real awesome, that's sadly overshadowed by his general stupidity, incompetence, ignorance and ineptitude. Which is really what makes him funny.

But that inner awesome shines through, and makes him more than just a footstool to comedy. He's a character without whom, the show would be a lot poorer. Plus, he's had sex with Leela. How many other characters can say that? Certainly not his opponent in this round.

For once I side with Danny.  I've already stated my reasoning in previous threads.  

I hopes Sals will wins, but I knows its hopelesses.

If Zapp were, say, a delivery boy, his stupidity would be more believable, if not acceptable.  As it is, the absolute absurdity of someone so stupid, (and worse, oblivious to their own stupidity,) being a decorated war hero when he can't even pronounce champagne, that irks me.  Maybe an episode on his back story, how he fellated his way to the top would help relieve some of the ire, but I doubt it.  Someone so weak and pathetic he cries like a bitch to get some pussy.... I just can't vote for that, ever.

I've known types like Zapp in the military but not at the high level he's achieved. You have to have at least a modicum of culture to make it to the senior ranks.  Regardless, though, he's a riot and that's why I voted for him.

George W. Bush made it all the way to the White House...maybe Zapp's father used to be a senator or president or somethin' and got him to where he is in the 31st century.

Regarding Zapp, I would also like more episodes showing him screwing up, but somehow accidently ending up to look like a hero in the public opinion.
Would also be a nice contrast/opposite to Fry, who sometimes manages the real great deeds (saving Earth, saving the universe), without anyone noticing, and Fry somehow remaining the loser (no one believes him, gets his memory blanked that he cannot even brag about it, etc...)
