Thss eps just fine. Nat a favourite, byt has some damn good jokes. THe lower horn harvester is the most disturbing thing in the universe (but only if you're a male, I'd imagine). "She also liked to shut up!" Ah, domestics are funny... The nose! Light of my face! And in the end they shot you, but you teach us anbout things. And yes. My postis riddled wuht erroes. But I'm wasted. As I keep saying. So nuts tio the whole damn universe. "I should warn you, I'm a mean drunk!" EFDIT: Incidently, Gleno, did you finally give in and watch the DVD, cause you know you can't trudst channel seven for shit? If so, good for you. Fught the power! Give me another drink!

I have to admit I'm amazed with the heaps of good reviews this episode got. By Futurama's standards, this has to rank as the Dumbest. Episode. Ever. For those that haven't heard the Spanish Fry commentary yet, 4ACV17 was originally intended by DXC and co. to be a musical episode featuring Barbados Slim, but after about a week of trying to make it work, they gave up and threw this one together...and it shows. The plot is utter garbage - the Bigfoot stuff, the human horn stuff, the Lrrr & Ndnd fighting stuff and especially the end part where Bigfoot and the Omicronians meet is utter nonsense. Not that there's no room for nonsense in Futurama but when you look at how well the classic episodes of the show are constructed in their storylines and then you look at this crumpled trainwreck of a triviality, it doesn't hold up at all. But this all fits into the Ron Weiner tradition. Look at his other episodes: The Luck Of The Fryrish, A Pharoah To Remember, Less Than Hero. All these episodes feature poor pacing and a much too mixed bag of gags, both in terms of semantics and quality, and this one is no exception. So whilst you have some top notch gags like the 3D Pipes screensaver parody and The Scary Door (although, out of context, it works less well), mediocre gags are ten-a-penny. Worst of the lot are Bender's lower horn jokes, which would have even been tolerable had Bender not shouted "WOOO!" after all of them like some sort of canned laughter substitute. It basically just seems like a lot of leftover gags and ideas were shoved into this one just to get them on the air before the show was axed. Hence, the Lrrr & Ndnd story (see Godfellas commentary), The Scary Door (Birdbot deleted scene), Lrrr's "One of these days..." line (Popplers deleted scene) and so on. But all shoehorned into this very loosely themed episode rather than given their own context to flourish in, this episode just becomes a (un)lucky dip of gags. With all that said, Peter Avanzino typically did a great job with the direction in this episode. The Galactic Bazaar in particular was one heck of a visual feast, and the flying saucer was a sight to behold too. So whilst the writing in this episode was nothing special, at least it was good to look at...well, in some parts anyways.

I think you a little too hard on it Mouse. there's some good jokes in there its not just penis and domestic jokes, and I cant say I had any problems with the pacing or Bigfoot elements. not a great episode its just a dumb mindless fun episode. heh You just really dont like Ron Weiner do you.

I never said it was, although you have to admit they do make up a large portion of the end of act 2 and act 3. ...and I cant say I had any problems with the pacing or Bigfoot elements. Well, funnily enough, of all Weiner's episodes I think this one actually has the best pacing, although given how weak the plot is there aren't many ways to screw it up in that regard. But the Bigfoot thing was just...daft really. Kind of a bad Simpsons-esque idea. Plus it's, what, the year 3003 and Bigfoot's still a big mystery to everyone? not a great episode its just a dumb mindless fun episode. Yeah, but I'm bored of those. There's enough of that sort of thing on TV at the moment anyways. heh You just really dont like Ron Weiner do you. What gave it away? No, I'm sure Ron Weiner's a lovely bloke and all, but to me he just seems to be the weakest of the Futurama writers. Had we seen more of Kristin Gore and Mike Rowe, however, he might've had some competition, but who knows.

I thought this was a pretty good episode. Not the best, but entertaining. The first half had some really funny gags and great visuals. The second half was pretty funny to. I took Bender's jokes as satire. I thought they were hilarious in thier predictability. To me, they were making fun of the reliance on those kind of jokes in other shows. Though it wasn't great by Futurama standards, it was wholly entertaining. 7.5/10

I fond something crazily enjoyable in it in spite of that. and there is a great line something to the effect of Lrrr: So let me get this straight if we all buy enough candy bars you'll all get to go to some camp. Bender:Yep thats exactly the line we used to get past your guards. but yeah the Whooos just seemed to be there to admit to the fact that there just doing a lot of penis jokes. S4 DVD commentary spoiler (I think Cohen pretty much admits as much in the commentary, although its hard to tell what with the incessant hooting and hollering and suchlike in the background)

Good episode. Not exactly really great, but it was definitely good. Didn't find the right execution, but was really funny upon first viewing, and has a pretty decent story behind it.
