I would compare this issue to an orchestra - groening is the conductor and cohen plays the first violin (I'm musician alright).

So what does - I should say did - Matt do? Just management? I can't imagine that someone who created such a show like futurama doesn't - again didn't - want to have his hands in it (for example give story ideas, think of minor characters etc.)

So all the work matt groening did was done before the show...in my opinion the show is great because of the excellent humour and great writing, if futurama was in any other style in my opinion it would still be good.....and he cant even draw the cartoons to the same level as it is on tv. im pretty sure any of us could have a better go. I dont hate Groening i just think he got lucky. he got lucky with the simpsons and now it leads him to other better things i.e Futurama. The only thing he does on his own is that crappy hell thing which is funny enuf crap. i dont dislike him i just think David X is better.....does anyone no wat David X is goin on to do now? Matt have never made a secret out of the fact that he has other people to do the animation and writing process. Why should he? It's clear for everybody that no single human could make it all happen. However the concept of Futurama is his! - He came up with the idea.
- He contacted David Cohen and aksed if he wanted in on it.
- He made the first crude sketches of all the main characters. He then handed them to professional artists, who cleaned up his work, and handed them back to Groening who then applied his personal touch to them.
- He came up with the entire universe.
- He and Cohen co-wrote the pilot-episode.
- He and Cohen both sketched out the overlying plot-archs.
He made Futurama, then he hired an extremely talented staff to make his vision come alive. Nothing wrong with that. If anything it shows he's a realist. Besides managing his own company probably take up most of his time, and he's way to occupied with administrative tasks to be involved in each and every episode.

In all fairness to Groening too, he also still came up with ideas throughout the run of the show, I think. For instance, "Farnsworth Parobox" sounded like it was very loosely based on an idea Groening had. Plus, like he was on Simpsons back in the 3/4-7 period, and even somewhat now, he was always a "grounding" influence on the show, letting the writers, etc know what they can and can't do. If both shows followed his rules more closely, they'd both be better.
But basically, they're a team. You can't have one without the other, in terms of this show, and still have it work. So, I can't really vote, because without either one, there'd be no show.

I haven't forgotten Life In Hell! I read The Big Book Of Hell ages ago and loved it Without Groening there would be no Futurama, so he's sort of the most important, but in terms of input into the episodes you have to go with Cohen.

Groening and Cohen are sorta like Jerry and George and their pilot episode of their show about nothing.
And when Fox got involved they were similar in more way than one.

I'd have to say that Groening would be pretty rich. After all, he created the most popular animation franchise ever.
Anyway, Futurama wouldn't exist without Groening, and it wouldn't exist without Cohen either, but I'd have to say that even though Groening created the characters, it was Cohen who developed them to the extent they're at now, and Cohen seems to have a lot more input in to the storyline side of Futurama.

Yeah, but like I said, if you go by input into the episodes Cohen is much more important. Either way, without both of them we wouldn't have Futurama as we know it today.
