You are correct that the 24 hour rule could not be used there.

However...

kaktus posted a caption at 13:30 on 09-28-2010.
hobbitboy posted the next caption at 14:09 on 09-29-2010.

That is slightly more than 24 hours....after that, there never was a 24 hour gap.

And yes, I see there was stuff posted between kaktus and hobbitboy.  However, as far as I have understood and from what I have read, the 24 rule only applies to posted captions.  Other posts that are not captions fail to count.
