I voted for other. Since Fry's dad was so patriotic, I thought he would give him the same middle name of an American hero. Joseph, the middle name of General John J. Pershing.

Although Joachim have a certain ring to it. We all know have ambitious and misunderstood Germans are, well Fry is misunderstood too.

I'm not sure if that's entirely correct. I think the Jay is partially in homage to Ward but more in homage to Rocky J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose. Hence the middle initials we never hear the exact names to in The Simpsons (save for Homer's after season ten), and similarly both Fry's and the Professor's never spoken middle names. So, the answer is that they probably never picked a middle name officially.

And let's admit it, "J" is a cool-sounding middle initial. Try it with your own name.

I think that Phillip James Fry has a nice ring to it, although it's most likely going to just remain "J" forever now. As DotheBartman said - they probably never picked a middle name officially.
Personally, I would really hate it if they actually made it "Jay." Even if it IS a tribute to Jay Ward, I still wouldn't like it, as it would basically be re-using the whole "keep the fans in suspense for ages over what J stands for, then reveal that it's Jay" joke that Groening did in The Simpsons.

I was thinking about what Nix said earlier, but have to say Douglas J Hilliard doesn't quite work. However, Dougie Jay Hilliard on the otherhand...! Oh, right... Probably: Philip Jay Fry What sounds best: Philip James Fry Other possibility: Philip Joseph Fry And another: Philip Jay-Jay Fry. Aha! But the one I'll go for: Philip Johannes Fry To be different and very strange. Yipee.
