TNUK, why do you always get so defensive when someone suggests a Futurama character might be gay, or robosexual as the case might be?  I agree with all your other points*, but I'm wondering where this hostility comes from.

Edit for punctuation and a TotPYMCA.

*Actually, I agree with this one, too.  I'm just curious.

Nerdo: It's sin! It says so in the bible!

I can't remember the chapter and verse, but I remember it's in the same chapter where they say it's OK for a father to sell his daughters into slavery, so long as he doesn't sell them to foreigners. Little help, anyone?

Because I'm sick of the gay mafia trying to claim that everyone or everything is gay. And by gay mafia, I mean the annoyingly uber-gay dude at work.

I don't have any problem with gay people being gay, but when they try to paint themselves as not being a minority, they need to be given a beer, and made to fight something.

For example, Randy is one of my favourite characters. If somebody tried to paint him as straight, I'd defend his gayness with equal vigour.

There's a few homosexuals of both genders whom I work with. Perhaps seven or eight all told. The only one that I never got on with was the whiny little camp fucker who insists that all which is straight is actually gay, and insists on finding hidden gayness in all that is around him. I want somebody to slap him with a vagina.

Edit: I also want people to stop using "surprise gayness" as a "shocking twist ending" for poorly-written fiction.

No. If there not meant for each other they won't hook up. And they won't, so there. Even if people throw stuff at me, I still won't say it. They won't. That's W-O-N-'T.

Capybara: Tough words for an oversized semi-aquatic rodent.

Totalnerduk: He probably just does it as a parody of how mainstream culture "straightenizes" everything, and I'm certain that by now he plays it way up around you, because he can sense it drives you bonkers.  Learn to laugh at it and baiting you will lose its appeal for him.

HopelesslycoolShipper: He probably doesn't have any.  He's just yanking our chains.  We'll let Venus sic her dead cat on him.

The dead one doesn't sic, or do much of anything else. Only Ani does.

The last time i tried to kill myself was about an hour ago. I jumped off this really tall building. But i ended up doing a triple backflip and landing on my feet. No one saw it of course, except for two little kittens and one kitten turned to the other and said "See? That's how you do that."

See, as a homo-gay-fag myself, I'd get really worked up about this current thread -- if I thought anyone at Futurama were actually a phobe about it.  Or, really, anybody here.  But Futurama's one of the most pro-gay shows around, and PEEL's cool too.

Still, I would posit that there are a couple of really gay Futurama episodes.  That's a compliment, of course.  What else could it be?

Example:  Bender had a sex change.  A sex change, baby; he became a fembot, you dig?  He had a romance with Calculon.  Sure he didn't -- you know -- "Barry White" -- but he sure cared about Calculon's emotions.  Maybe it was that Femmzoil coursing through Bender's robotic veins.  (Though, talk about easy female jokes.  What, no late-night ice cream eating with Leela?  Oops, my snark setting is set on obnoxious. *turns it down*.)  Bender, of course, kept his ill-gotten five Olympic bending medals, even after the transformation back from his Coilette persona.  "I'm back, baby!"  *twoing!*

Another example:  Then, of course, there's "Hell is the H-Word."  Which is basically Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" transposed via Futurama onto a 31st-century template, with a Star Trek twist.  Doy!  What, you weren't paying attention in high school English class?  Oh, you neither, huh?  Well, I read it later, and you should too.  Yes.  Whaaa?

As you'll recall, Cap'n Zapp had certain, um, feelings, toward the outstanding new recruit, Lee Lemon.  (Leela, of course, in a clever bearded disguise that only morons -- such as Zapp, Fry, hard-farting Bender, Nixon, that emu-farming soldier, and the rest, save perhaps Kif -- could not penetrate.)  Zapp made several overtures to the new recruit, including the mention of Ancient Greece.  Oddly enough (yeah, right!) Leela didn't reciprocate.

Yes, Leela -- I mean, Lee Lemon -- resisted the man-on-"man" intimacy suggested by such lines as  Zapp's: "I'm about to try the new lotion you recommended. (Sexfully) If I should accidentally put too much on my hands, perhaps I could rub it onto you."  Well, granted, straight guys, plus any self-respecting gaywad like me, would refuse such an offer.  As would Leela, of course, what with the gagging and the horror and the God-forbid!

Ah, dang.  This was supposed to be a much shorter post.  But then I got into describing some of my favorite episodes, and, like most of us, I went on far too long.

Point is, Futurama makes many gay jokes.  And straight jokes.  And smizmar jokes.  In fact, they make most any joke they can.  But they're never mean, and they're (almost) always funny.

Your member has to EARN its respect, buddy.  And if it's so scared of merely sharing internet space with gay men, it's already heavily overdrawn.  Add the high interest rate you get by flattering yourself that any gay man would want to get near any part of you, and you're severely in debt at the Respect Bank.

You can work off some of said debt by paying respect out to others...such as by making apologies: to Tom, who didn't do a thing against you; to the Mods, whose role you presumed to usurp after less than a month here; and to the rest of the board, for reminding us that such ignorance exists in the world.

There's my two cents for you...use it to buy yourself a clue.

Yeah, I dig, man.
  • You seem to be confusing homosexuality with transsexuality. Transsexuality is an issue of gender identity, where homosexuality is one of sexual preference.
  • Bender’s choice to have a sex-change was motivated not out of, for lack of a better term, robot sexual preference, nor one of gender identity, but out of avarice for Olympic gold.

    • Also motivated by material gain.
    • Actually, Coilette had the romance with Calculon, but I don’t mean to split hairs.

Agreed. Probably a side-effect Bender did not forsee – and a fine plot twist as well.

But Zapp was so happy to find out it was Leela in drag.  "I've never been so happy to be beaten up by a woman before!"

That ep had so many laughs - M*A*S*H parody, the iHawk, Zoidberg's incompetance and of course, Bender's top ten words.  Let us not forget the "Balls Thoroghly Licked" newpaper headline.

Leela gagging at the thought of Zapp rubbing her down made me laugh - but now I wonder if it was the though of Zapp putting his hands on her or the thought of Zapp thinking she was a man and giving her a rubdown that almost made her supper re-enter society.

And for the shippers:  Leela dressing in drag to protect Fry and towards the end, holding hands with him on the chopper.

She never mentioned his cowardice.  She accepts him as he is.  But only as a friend (wink wink).

After due consideration, and looking at my post from less exhausted eyes, I decided to delete this.  As PCC Fred pointed out, it had nothing to do with Leela and Fry, and it was in response to a pretty blatant troll.

I thank Officer 1BDI for his compliment below; but I still think this post is best forgotten.

Although, if anyone objects to this - to my cheating in order to save face and slipping out from under the embarrassment of having had my buttons pushed by a dweeb - I have saved the text of this post and will restore it.

But for now, let's just follow HopelessShipper's advice below.

Leela and Fry, sitting in a tree
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
First comes love, but times skips marriage,
Which Lee-la's confusion makes her disparage.

Leela and Fry, married in a tree,
D-I-V-O-R-C-E
Cartoon law broke them up, sure,
But in the end they'll be once more...

Leela and Fry, sitting in a tree
Both as happy as they can be
Deep inside you know it's true,
'Cause Matt&Dav'd are Shippers too!
