This should be our last day of Concerns. Hopefully tomorrow, we will get news on whether or not Futurama is going to be renewed, or just plain out cancelled.

There's really no evidence of that. Not enough to pin so much hype on to, anyway. Speculation just got out of hand.

Considering how the show has been screwed with by the networks before it even got made, was basically cancelled twice, and how underrated it is to other animated sitcoms, I say it's perfectly natural for fans to always be worried on the look out for the future of Futurama (no pun intended).

Oh, absolutely. I'm anxiously awaiting the news. It's just that the March 28th thing makes virtually no sense and I'm not sure why people are treating it as the make-or-break. I mean, I get it, because I read all the posts about it, but the logic simply doesn't follow. No one at Fox or Comedy Central ever said "by March 28th, we will announce the future of the show."

"@DannyJC13 it is not in production. An official announcement of the show's future will be happening very soon."
In this declaration "very soon" doesn't make sense either...

Perhaps his actual 'great news' was the futurama comic he wrote which came out today/yesterday.

If that official announcement is very soon and about cancellation/renewal, it should be in this month.

I had really hoped it would be today, and the 28th theory seemed very plausible, so I had gotten my hopes for an answer up  :(
I hate this waiting so much; it makes me very nervous. I guess it's a good sign, though, since even if it is canceled, this long wait implies to me that it wasn't an easy decision and that it may not stay dead (again). As other people have said, however, if it is canceled, I won't be too depressed since it's had such a great run, and I don't think it's life will have been cut way too short as it would have been with 72 episodes.

That's what they said about the 2012 apocalypse, and we sure proved them!  :laff:

If you just want the part where they talk about Futurama:

John doesn't seem worried, which I'm taking as a good thing. My optimistic side says it's early days yet - I won't start to worry until the season has finished airing or Comedy Central drops a bomb on us.

All these hints about an announcement have me wondering though. Maybe the reason we haven't heard anything concrete is that they're in talks for another tv movie or something like that? The upcoming season finale is supposed to be a two-parter, so  the episode run time must have proved constraining for at least one storyline. Maybe the writers are planning something bigger and want to do justice to it. That's my thinking right now, anyway.

It definitely seems like something is coming, as it was discussed earlier in this thread, they don't usually announce that a show has been cancelled, as you're essentially announcing nothing at all.

Just noticed, Eric Rogers tweeted this yesterday:

"THIS DATE IN HISTORY: Futurama premiered on Fox, March 28, 1999! How are we still fighting the good fight?! Huzzah! #futurama"

Notice the word "still". :)

In fact we've got the semi-official "announcement" from RDS already: CC isn't ordered a new bunch of episodes. Eric Rogers confirmed that: Season 8 isn't in production. No one acknowledges defeat confirms the cancellation, so there is no truly official announcement.

As of now John Dimaggio talked about Season 7B. He gave absolutely no hope about anything beyond it.

It seems Eric Rogers is having some fun keeping the fanbase nervous. You could ask him about the long-awaited official announcement again, Danny, and about his understanding of "very soon" part, too.

He has access to their Twitter accounts? Yikes.

As for going "a little too far" . . . in my experience, moderation is not Unmentionable's watchword, and though the crazy seems funny at first, it quickly becomes terrifying. If I was them I'd just block his tweets now and spare my brain.

True, we haven't been given any assurances, but if major players like Eric Rogers and John DiMaggio feel the show has more mileage, I'll take that as a good sign. The show could just be switching channels or returning in a non-conventional format.

Until we hear more definitive bad news, I'll just keep playing Katrina and the Waves over the clanging chimes of doom.

Ignoring him would be the best solution for members of the Futurama team.

Unmentionable is nuts.....I even sent him something, hoping that he would cool his jets! Jeez, makes me feel bad for Eric Rogers, that HE has to deal with such a.......sad man now.  :hmpf:

I even considered making a Kickstart goal, contributing $1000.  A goal so great, that it would make Unmentionable's internet line be disconnected. Forever.

But sadly, stuff like this isn't allowed, no matter what kind of idiot we're all having to deal with.

It'd serve him right if Futurama came back for Season 8, and they poked fun at what he's been doing, and maybe use it as a gag or something. That would be priceless.

While it would be funny for them to poke fun at Unmentionable on the show in some subtle way, I think it's best to just leave him completely alone. No one needs to intentionally push an already-unhinged person's buttons; it just seems like bullying.

On the bright side, I agree that Eric Rogers' and John DiMaggio's attitude does make me feel pretty positive about the future of Futurama! If it were permanently canceled, it seems like they would seem less flippant and cheerful.

I'm beginning to wonder if the wait has something to do with only 75% of the last  contract's episodes having been aired. There is no viewer data or reviews on them yet.
I don't think there is problem with work flow and production time if a new batch is ordered after they are aired but with losing key production people during the production gap.
