Okay people, we've heard about what commentaries and 'tators we do like, but what about the ones we don't? What's your least favourite DVD commentary?

For me, it would have to be The Cryonic Woman. For such a poor episode, I had hoped the commentators would talk about their inspirations, their ideas, hell, even their guest stars just to make that episode a little bit better. But they didn't. In fact, they barely made one interesting comment throughout the entire episode. What a waste of an audio track.

Cryonic Woman was pretty bad... as was Lesser of Two Evils, the only funny/interesting part there was the ribbing of DiMaggio over his atoms comment.  The rest was a bunch of silence and whatnot.

I didn't like "The Cryonic Woman" commentary.
Other than that, all of the commentaries that I have heard (those from seasons 1 and 2) were great.

The Cryonic Woman is really the only one that sticks in my mind as not being that good, but that's really only because everyone here goes on about it being bad :P But I'll agree that the quality of the commentary for it matches that of the episode.

The commentary for 'Brannigan, begin again' was pretty poor as well, the only good part being the whoops.

Would have to agree with Cryonic Woman. I thought I had accidentally turned the commentary track off. There's at least 10 minutes where nothing is said.

Gotta agree with the 'Cryonic Woman' commentary. It felt like they were the just for the sake of being there, and to finish the season off...

Really? I like Susie Dieter, I think she's funny.   :)

EDIT: Oops, sorry, you meant Claudia Katz. I guess it is a little annoying but I find Ron Weiner much more grating personally. He ruined the Spanish Fry commentary for me.

I don't like the way they always make fun of "the internet," as if it's composed of only obsessed loser fans.  Do they even get viewer feedback from any other source?

Yeah, I think the way they addressed the viewer feedback on the "That's Lobstertainment!" commentary was a little patronising. Either they're completely detached from the fans or they were reluctant to address any chink in their armour.

Sounds mostly like Rich Moore who makes those comments, at least it sounded like him when someone describe a.t.f. as "oh, those idiots!". People like Cohen and David A Goodman is a lot more supportive, Verrone even defended a.t.f. when someone (forgot who) said the called every episode "the worst episode ever". And I can understand Verrone's annoyance with that guy who continued to bash "That's Lobstertainment" and then completely caved when confronted on the issue.

Anyway, back to the topic: I don't really have an entire commentary I disliked, although "The Cryonic Woman" was rather disappointing. One of the things I didn't like though was that tI feel the overall information-level dropped in the 4ACV episodes, in exchange for chaos and Bender-laughs. The previous seasons had a much better balance between friendly banter and information about the episodes/jokes/characters.

Also John's "Gol-gol-gol-gol-gooooooooooooool..." in ALOHO went on for way to long.

Who said Brannigan Begins Again was bad? I remember liking that commentary.

David X: You know, doop spelled upside down is doop. What do they call that? When something is the same upside down?
Lewis Morton: I'll tell you what I call it..."awesome"!

I didn't like the Lobstertainment commentary, because there was a huge pause where nothing was said. It made me sad. But I liked hearing them acknowledge that the fans hated it, and Patrick Verrone's story about the internet fan wussing out when asked for legitimate criticisms was cute. I don't think they were making fun of us internet nerds. They seemed pretty respectful/appreciative of us when reading Luck of the Fryrish comments.

And why are they detached, just because they didn't think Lobstertainment was bad?  I hated it too, don't get me wrong, but the staff all worked on it for 9 months or whatever. I can't fault them for being unashamed of all their hard work.

I will point out that while I didn't hate the Future Stock commentary, I was really disappointed that they couldn't get the real writer to talk about the episode.

I would have to say the Cryonic Woman because they hardly said anything. I also got annoyed by the Problem With Popplers commentary because instead of talking about the episode, they talked about the music the whole time which is nice, but Chris Tyng should have had his own little featurette thing to talk about the music on the show. I watch the commentaries to hear about the episodes, and I like hearing about what scenes were deleted and whatnot.

True, but so did half of Patric Verrone's anecdotes. Not that he has nothing interesting to say, just that he takes absolutely ages to get to the point sometimes.

Yeah, shame about Arron Ehasz. In the Crimes Of The Hot commentary, they make up for his absence by having three of the show's other writers join them.

I think one of the hardest commentaries for the crew to do though must've been "Fear Of A Bot Planet", because none of the writers (Evan Gore and Heather Lombard) or the directors (Peter Avanzino and Carlos Baeze) were there, and it really shows in the amount of pauses there are. Plus it was an early commentary and they hadn't really found their feet yet anyway.

Yes, the Cryonic Woman was pretty bad. I was hoping they would talk more to drown out the terrible story and dialogue, but they didn't.

I don't like the alternate commentary for "Rosewell That Endswell". Might sound kind of harsh, but the woman who is in that commentary, has a voice that makes me want to pop my eardrums with mint flavored toothpicks. The story she told at the end about DXC comments on the "Crimes Of The Hot" storyboards was funny though.

You know what, is it just me or does Ron Weiner have a really annoying laugh? I know the poor bugger probably can't help it, but that inhale laugh just sounds like someone having an asthma attack on speed.

I believe you are referring to Claudia Katz, a producer at Rough Draft Studios. And, yeah, her voice is kind of annoying after a while.

Poor Weiner.  :( I didn't find him annoying, but I guess he doesn't talk much on the season 3 set.

I was pretty disappointed to find out how they really pronounce his name, though.

"His name is pronounced 'whiner'?"
"It is when we're not making fun of him."

You'll hear him more on the Season 4 DVD, particularly in the Spanish Fry commentary.

Are you kidding? I loved the "Big Piece Of Garbage" commentary. I thought it was one of the liveliest of Season 1, the season in which they seemed to have quite a lot of trouble keeping the dialogue flowing.

"Bendless Love" is another in which they don't say very much, though they claim it's because they haven't done one in a while.

"Bendless Love" also falls in with my theory that commentaries with Eric Horsted in the group tend to be quieter for some reason.

Maybe Horsted randomly starts shouting lots of expletives in the commentaries so they have to edit it out.

Yeah, maybe that's it. Like maybe in the A Taste Of Freedom commentary after John DiMaggio sings "Freedom, freedom, oi!", Eric Horsted tells him to shut the eff up 'coz he's trying to watch.

Worse commentary is all the ones without Tress MacNielle in them. She's quite talented, particularly in TDTESS, and runs jokes as well as Billy and John.
