It's under audio/subtitles features for each episode. You go there, then audio commentaries, then play.

Well, get a better one. For me it works on PowerDVD.

Both PowerDVD and WinDVD work fine for me using the way aslate describes. Rightclick and select audio "English 2" are faster and more reliable though.

Sorry, that's the only advice I have.

lfv, i've figured it out... through powerdvd highlight "english" with your mouse, then use the arrow keys on your keyboard and go to "italian" then press the down arrow key and it will bring up the directors audio commentary, click it..

aslate, the button is disabled for clicking through powerdvd.. i'm using powerdvd xp..

teral,

thats what i tried at first but all the options for audio & subtitles are greyed out..

mystery solved

I had this same problem with InterActual Player on my PC. I had to move my mouse over the option above, then press down and then enter. Same problem with the Season 2 DVDs too unfortunately.

with the season 2 dvd's i was able to right click on the video window and then select the secondary english audio track, not with season 1 though.

I'm not 100% sure, but i'm pretty sure WM Player isn't compatible with DVDs, maybe with a patch though.
Also, i'm running the XP version, all working for me.

you have to do it throught the DVD menus. it cannot be done using the software menus.

I don't think anyone was suggesting using the software menus.

"thats what i tried at first but all the options for audio & subtitles are greyed out.."

sounded like the software menu to me. sorry if I'm mistaken.

You could always just get a DVD player or PS2/Xbox...it's worth it!

Yeah, the season 1 DVD only lets me change audio / subtitles through the menus when I play it on my apple iBook - it's the only DVD I have that does that.

Strangely, when I hacked my apple DVD player (so I could skip the fox copyright warnings in swahili) the issue seemed to resolve.

I think it's just an issue with all software DVD players, because I can only change the audio via the DVD menus when I use SUSE Linux as well.

It's certainly not shown in the clearest way whether the audio commentary is enabled, as clicking on the "Director's Commentary" button hides the text that appears when it's highlighted (at least for me). However, the most reliable way I've found to get the audio commentaries is:

1. Load the disc.

2. Start an episode.

3. Once the episode has started, use the right click menu in PowerDVD to select Audio...English 2.

N.B. It definitely won't work if you try this at the DVD menus. An episode has to start first.

Nope, that's not true. If you havn't started the episode and you head straight for the "language selection" menu, select the option you want then click "resume episode" it will play the episode from the start, with the appropriate audio track playing.

At least, it will on my Apple Mac. But (even more annoyingly) you can't select the audio commentary option with your mouse - you have to use the remote control or keyboard.

Oops.  ;)

You're right, of course. What I meant to say (*everyone rolls their eyes simultaneously*) was that trying to select the commentary through the PowerDVD menus won't work until an episode is playing. You quite rightly point out that you can do it as they intended by following the steps you described - it still is not clear as to when it is activated/deactivated, IMHO.
