Well, I'm writing a new screenplay called "Futurama: Virtual Apocalypse" and in one of the scenes, Fry and Leela are being chased by the main villain in a Mil Mi-24 'Hind' gunship. I decided to draw a concept of this scene, but I cant seem to decide exactly what model of Mi-24 to use. I like how the older Mi-24A looks really menacing, but the newer Mi-24D or V look more futuristic. Can you help me with this?  :hmpf:

BTW, I got a bunch of photos uploaded at my website, if this helps:

Or if you want to give it a slightly more futuristic feel, you could have them being chased by the dropship in Aliens/the Star Wars Episode 2 gunship.

That is a brilliant idea, but Im afraid I already used the Cheyenne dropship in Alien Vs. Planet Express. Also, the new script takes place in a virtual world with older technology (20th century). So the Mi-24 is my best choice of gunship (Its also my favorite heli).
But thanks anyway.  ;)

Great taste in helicopters! :D :p
Great site too btw! :)

I see what you mean about the Hind-A looking more menacing - certainly the later models appear more futuristic; certainly more iconic. I'm also more used to seeing the ruddy huge chaingun on the later models. I'd be happier to see the D or V to be honest, though I wonder - what do you feel towards the Mi-28 Havoc instead? :)

The Mil Mi-28 'Havoc'? Hmmm... I think you just gave me a great idea.
But first, thanks for your opinion on the Mi-24. The Mi-24V "Hind-E" shall be the gunship in the pic.  ;)
Now, about the Mi-28... That would be great to put in the script.
I'll make it where Fry and Leela steal an Mi-28, while later on get chased by the villain in the Mi-24. Yay! A helicopter dogfight scene! I knew I was missing something.  :D
Thank you, Zed 85.

I know Fry used the turret on the PE ship, but the thought of him at the trigger of a 30mm cannon is sorta scary...

I was going to suggest a Denel AH-2 Rooivalk, but the Mi-28 is nice, too.

Okay, here it is!

I didn't add Fry or a background 'cause I'm still trying to fit this scene into the screenplay.

The Hind is absolutely superb. I adore the pic!

Leela looks great, but to be honest there's one or two things I would change - namely maybe raise her lower eyelid to emphasise a little bit more fear (if you're going for it) and maybe tilt her body slightly forward. I did a little edit in photoshop to experiment with it - I'll post it if you want, but these are just my opinions.

Otherwise, seriously though, I love this pic to bits! :D
Happy to help you decide on it! :)

With Leela's mouth open and the expression on her face, I can hear the words she's shouting as she's running for her life:

SHIT...  FUCK... DAMMIT!

First, Thanks verry much.  :D

You see, the funny thing was that I was actually concidering those details when I first thought of the pic. I was first gonna draw Leela the way you described, but then I remembered a scene from the script...

Quote
Leela once again finds herself standing in the empty white void.

Icarus is standing patiently in front of her.

ICARUS:
Welcome back.

LEELA:
Look, Icarus. If I notice for one
millisecond that this is some sick
brain-hacking prank gone too far, I'm
out. But I'm willing to play along,
for now.

ICARUS:
So be it.
(Looks up)
Iapyx... load the simulation.

The void digitally FADES into a virtual 20th century city, with Leela and Icarus now standing on the ROOFTOP of a skyscrapper.

LEELA:
Wow. Nice trick.

ICARUS:
This is what we call a sparring program.
It is a variation of the original
neuro-simulation, but with a more realistic
setting, including manipulatable objects,
breakable windows and walls, and so on.

LEELA:
What do you want me to do?

ICARUS:
I want you to hit me.

LEELA:
Excuse me?

ICARUS:
Attack me... if you can.

Icarus assumes a combat stance.

Leela hesitates for a moment, SHRUGS, then forms a similar stance.

Icarus NODS to her.

Leela lets out a CRY as she CHARGES at Icarus. She throws as many punches as she can at him, failing each time by his _ blocks and various defense strategies.

Leela then breaks away.

LEELA:
(Short of breath)
How did you do that?

ICARUS:
(Calm)
Do what?

LEELA:
How are you so fast?

ICARUS:
This is the point of my lesson. Your
opponets will be even quicker than me,
therefore more stronger.

LEELA:
Are you telling me that eventually I'll
be faster than you?

ICARUS:
(Smiles)
No, Leela. I'm telling you that when
you're ready, you won't have to be.

Leela nods with slight confusion.

ICARUS:
Again!

The two form combat positions again, and this time Icarus attacking Leela first.

Leela STRUGGLES to block Icarus's frequent strikes, while improvising her own defenses. Eventually, she fails. Icarus's final attack forces Leela into an exterior ventillation unit, leaving a huge DENT.

ICARUS:
What are you waiting for? You're
better than this.

Leela catches her breath, then SQUINTS at Icarus.

ICARUS:
(Cont.)
Don't think you are... believe it.
Open your mind.

Leela begins displaying a surprised expression as she stares at Icarus.

ICARUS:
Yes... you feel it, don't you?

She inspects her hands and arms, then assumes another stance.

Icarus forms the same stance as her.

ICARUS:
Try again... this time, let go of
your disbelief... open your mind.

Leela exhales deeply, then THROWS herself at Icarus. Her speed has dramatically increased, matching Icarus's.

His face is knotted, teeth CLENCHED, now violently STRUGGLING against Leela's attacks.

Leela displays FRUSTRATION, then slowly calms down. Her speed is now double that of Icarus's. Her arms and legs are LIGTNING fast, as if they were moving themselves, causing Icarus to lose concentration.

A final KICK from Leela sends Icarus FLYING into the rooftop's cement barrier, an enormous CHUNK missing.

Leela takes a moment to catch her breath.

Icarus calmly emerges from the barrier and walks up to her.

ICARUS:
Do you see now?

Leela NODS.

ICARUS:
Disbelief was expected from you, no
doubt. But you now have not only proved
to me of your acception, but to yourself.

LEELA:
I think I understand now.

It is then that I realised that by time this chase takes place in the story, Leela would have all of Icarus's lessons understood. Therefore she has less fear and she is much faster and stronger. And the way she is running requires her to be upright, not leaned forward, as that might cause her to lose balance at such high speed.

However, I am quite interested in your vision of such types of detail, Zed 85. I would love to see your version.  ;)

I share Zed85's liking of the pic, but also agree with him about the body angle.

Stingray, you're a real fan of The Matrix as well as helicopter gunships, yes?

Yeah, I got a huge interest in Russian aircraft. And, yes, I really like The Matrix and it was the perfect theme for "Virtual Apocalypse".

Frisco, read this quote from Icarus in the story:

Quote
ICARUS:
Never limit your mind to belief that
the same laws of physics apply to
your dreams. The virtual laws of both
this program and the Labyrinth are
made to be broken.

And she's not outrunning it. Yes, she is faster and more fearless, but she is simply running to... cover maybe. If she really tried, she probably could outrun it, though.

That makes a lot of sense now - I see what you're getting at. :)

Here is what I did - just very simple, quick edits - First one was the original with the "fear" look and the titled sprint. Then after reading what you had written I did a second one with a more determined look - then the third I just went overboard with effects (little bit unfair because it'd be harder to re-create them with traditional media)  :p I forget where the Hind ejects its bullet casings, it's just a bit of fun. ;)

Thanks.  ;)

And here is the promo pic for Virtual Apocalypse:

At first it might look like a Futurama/The Matrix crossover, but its not. Its simply based on The Matrix (having a similar storyline, but with different characters and... etc.).

Also, the code I used in the pic is not random typing of symbols. Every line actually says something, but I doubt people are gonna take the time to decode all of it.  :p

And the story itself is being updated here:
