Hello, I'm Stingray and I just recently got hooked on this awsome show. Its so addicting I just can't get enough of it.  :D
Anyway, here is my verry first Futurama fanart:

And a crossover pic:

YES I noticed the mistake in putting the pressure door on the right instead of the left.  :laff:

These aren't nearly as good as my much newer ones, but... gotta start somewhere.  ;)

Also you might notice an overload in realism in the background, weapons, equipment, etc... its a habbit. Even the most unrealistic thing has a sense of realism when its drawn by my hands.

Just make the characters match the detail of the background and you're set.

Well, I for one think your backgrounds are fabulous. :) Most of the time I can't be assed drawing that much background detail.

Incredible backgrounds! And you can see big improvements in the characters from one pic to the next, too; 3rd pic looks excellent. How long did it take? Looks so fiddily to do...

Ooo, you reckon? If you're going to try for that, you need to completely throw out any effort at Groeningism and essentially redesign the characters from scratch; often more trouble than it's worth!

But the backgrounds have already thrown out the "Groeningism" so he may as well just go all out.

Do you reckon? The proportions and scale of the bgs fit the characters; the _design_ is different, granted, but to an extent that's really just set-dressing rather than any fundamental break. The detail of the design goes beyond Groeningism, absolutely - question is, does it break the disbelief that you're looking at a coherent futurama pic, as it were! That's subjective; in the 2nd pic, it might, but the 3rd pic... not for me, and certainly not in the way a redesigned character with a groeningesque bg would.

It's a balancing act, if you're not going for strict on-model work; but altering one element doesn't mean you should alter all of them.

My major beef is just Leela's face was plain white, add some shading in there because it stands out too much.

Awesome level of detail, I love it.

Regarding the abandonment of Groeningism - I do that myself, adopting an anime style and giving the characters the correct number of digits. It's contentious though - some will love it and some will hate it.

Aye, could be; but as you say, that's shading rather than style.

The way he's done it works in black and white.

Whether it still works when/if he colours it is another matter, as the busier background and greater range of muted colours may clash horribly with the simple cartoon colours.

Would you believe only two to maybe three hours?

And as far as the background detail... I have sort of an obsession with realism, so my detail might be a bit much with technology. I also basically wanted to see these characters in a real-world (or almost real) environment. I think I pulled it off pretty well, especially in the 3rd pic. But I will try to find shortcuts into making it a little more believable, without changing the original character design.

Awesome work, all of it.

The Alien crossover sounds interesting. Heck, the Alien franchise has been crossed-over with just about everything else. I think even Superman went up against the blighters once.

The Xenomorph alien queen appears in second Simpsons/Futurama crossover comic in a full-page shot parodying Aliens, with Marge at the controls of the forklift mecha thing Ripley used in the film.

A chapter of my novel-length fanfic was titled "In space, no one can hear you make an idiot of yourself"

Funny coincidence, I was gonna make a pic where Leela fights the alien queen with the Caterpillar P5000 Power Loader.  :laff:

I even wrote it in my screenplay.

freako = layout and lining
stingray = detailing and background
el = colour and shading
marcus = pits and tits

...Naw! See, there's probably a reason we're seperate people :p Mind you, I think we've all collaborated in some way with 1 or more folk in the past (can't speak for stingray!), so who's to say otherwise...

The idea sounded good at first, but if I start one detail I have no choice but to do another, until the entire creation is......well.....created.   :rolleyes:

However....

Zed 85, I do need your opinion on a certain detail in a drawing I'm currently working on.
