RIP Ronnie Corbett, the remaining half of comedy duo The Two Ronnies. He lived locally, and I saw him several times while out and about: the last time he didn't look particularly well, so this has been on the cards for a while.

My teen years are long gone, but their movies still hold a revered cult status with me and my friends, and we still know most of their dialogs by heart.

As a Browncoat, that news is deeply upsetting. Ron Glass struck me as a fine actor and a fine man, and fate's got no business taking him at 71.

It might be too easy to say that Fidel Castro had his time, that he passed away having achieved more than most humans could have dreamed of, but if nothing else, RIP to both.

At the risk of sounding inappropriate and crass, there's also a hideous realisation now that this wretched year still has a month to go...

Even now Barney Miller remains in my memory as one of the best sitcoms and one of the best cop shows to come out of the USA. RIP Ron.
