Batman didn't even like Robin when he was his son.

Not very appealing to be honest.
Instead of getting another Dark Knight, I think we're gonna get another Batman Begins.
Hey, some people liked Batman Begins. Tachyon slowly slinks out of the thread...

I'm more excited about the Batman VS Spider-man movie that's meant to come out in 2013.

Batman Begins is a good movie indeed, very good even. Yet TDK is even better.

Eh. The villian in Batman Begins feels tagged on. All origin stories seems to be interesting until the origin is complete and we need some sort of spare villian. Take the recent Captain America film. It's good until half the film is over.

That's one of the considerations they made when they filmed the 1989 Batman. Hence they decided to wrap the origin of Batman in mysterious flashbacks that eventually told a very compelling, insightful narrative into the psyches of Bruce Wayne and Jack Napier as well as the nature of their intertwined lives.
Batman Returns was cited as one of the more grim films of the decade when it came out, featuring more deconstructed themes, like a super villain without a cooky master plan. Eventually the story mimicks the darker elements of fairy tales as the antagonist, a throw away from society, decides to contemplate the death of every first born in Gotham.
Both films portrayed a darker, more gritty and realistic view of Batman, and their portrayal were heavily influenced by such critically acclaimed pieces as The Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke. The films also paved the way for a rather mature, at its time, animated series entitled Batman: The Animated Series.... a show which would leave its mark in the psyches of a generation on the serious nature of Batman. Arguably, without these films, Batman Begins, as well as a slew of other franchises would not have the ability to exist.
So I disagree with your premise that Batman Returns was a gawdawful movie Josh.
I'll also agree with Svip... since I think he just put into words why I don't like Batman Begins as much; though I've not denied that it's a good movie.

Ridiculous horrible pointless redesign on Spidey's costume. I am not amused. Also, the costume has some kind of thick sole on the feet. Further - the guy is clinging by hands and feet to a train ceiling despite the fact that he's wearing shoes. Spider-Man cannot cling to surfaces through thick shoe soles, only through thin material (like spandex). Whenever Peter needs to wall-crawl while out of costume, he has to remove his shoes.

Bah, nothing would resurrect the fame of the first three movies of Spider-Man. Also, look at that costume of Spidey, something looks, I don't know, unlike it should be, all shiny, enameled. And new characters, too ? I don't know about this, but if the writers will pull this out somehow, then it should be fine. Agree with coldangel 101%.

I didn't like the elaborate use of texture, gloss, and raised 'web' pieces on the costume in the first three films. It did not seem like something a teenage kid could reasonably produce in secret, and the real Spider-Man's costume has never been like that, but rather just a simple spandex body-suit with a screen-printed design. The suit was WAY over-produced, but at least it followed the pattern of the original. This new version (though I am happy to see they lost the raised webs), now shits in the eye of a fifty-year-old icon. It's like if they decided to make Superman's cape blue and removed the S symbol. It's needless and demonstrates disrespect. I'll contend that this one does look like it was put together by a kid... perhaps a 5-year-old who had Spider-Man roughly described to him and was then handed a sack of textile off-cuts. Peh. Worst part is that I will absolutely go and see it.
