It is just the ultimate perfect show. I have to say, it is just up my alley with nerds. I'm a nerd, although nowhere as nerdy as the guys in the show.

Also Howard is an aerospace engineer, I have to immediately love that.

I think Howard's a complete and total ass. Goth Howard is pretty amusing, though. The sleeves, haha.

The fact that this show is so popular restores some of my faith in humanity.

Damn, I can't wait to see it! I've seen a lot of them recently over Xmas though. My brother also loves the show and we've both been watching it a lot lately. It really makes me laugh out loud quite a lot, which for me is quite rare for a non-animated show to do that...

Am I the only one who wishes they had some friends like them though? I know they're fictional characters, but I'd love to hang out with them. I'm essentially a nerd without the intelligence, so that would be my flaw, but aside from that it would rock!...

Yes, I'm aware how sad that makes me sound...

Well yes, that would be a bonus. The sad thing is, watching all of their pathetic love lives (aside from Penny) made me realise something, that even by their own pathetic standards they're still doing better than I am (aside from Sheldon), but even he's had more interest from the opposite sex in recent times than I have. I'd have to be hanging out with an even nerdier group of people to even up. Wow my life is pathetic...

At this point Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler deserves someone who can fulfill her emotional and physical needs.  Sheldon may be getting better at that, but to be honest, he's been doing a piss poor job about it.

I had friends kinda like that, but not as funny (similar situation - I was friends with a "Leonard" and then communicated with his roomies/friends). I am hanging with a new crew of mainly 3 guys though, and they're pretty awesome. And funny.

Looks like somebody's too dumb to see the funny. Although, since S2 there have been fewer science jokes, more comic book jokes, and in general more jokes that aren't quite as clever. I have to say, it's gone downhill (but only a little). I do hope they get back to making science jokes sometime soon.

Ehh... I'm not a huge fan of it, either. And it's not because I don't get it. It's not exactly the smartest show in the world.

I thought the pilot was great - jokes that were funny and smart. But ever since then, it's become less of a show that's about making jokes that a nerd can appreciate and more about a show where the humour comes from nerds being socially inept. It doesn't work on two levels anymore, basically.

And at the end of the day, it's still a very cheesy, traditional, 3-walled American sitcom. It has its moments but it's just a bit lowest common denominator at times.

This is also how I feel about 'How I Met Your Mother' except you can replace the occasional smart joke with the occasional inspired joke with that one.

I kind of wanted an explanation for Sheldon's sudden interest in flags but other than that it was an enjoyable plot. I liked this week's episode a lot!

You know I can appreciate criticism but going onto a thread where you have nothing to say about the show except that it's crap (and I suspect you haven't done your homework), is really disrespectful to those of us who are fans or are at least engaging in conversation about the show. It's just as annoying as the Community trolls on on AVClub.

I am actually a little perplexed that people thought the Pilot was at the pinnacle of the highest it could be. I thought it was decent, but what made it so great to you guys that other episodes lack? I have felt this season a bit letdown in comparison to the rest of the seasons because, as cyber pointed out, it seems very mundane with typical sitcom dramedy and not enough main nerd plots of which the show needs to feast on.

Like this week's episode, aside from the opening flag gag (teehee), I felt it pretty pointless. It focused on Leonard and Penny's ship (relationship sitcom) and then had something that should have been a 1 or 2 minute bit with Raj and his phone last an entire episode. It all just seemed like filler and left me feeling a little empty watching it after it started out so great with Sheldon. His was the only plot I felt worth sustaining the episode, but without other character's sideplots to support his I can see how some might feel his plot was a little drawn out too.

The great episodes to me were the ones that involved plots like waiting outside the midnight premiere of Indiana Jones (very Seinfeld ish in its unique nature), competing in a physics bowl, having a LAN party, or buying a time machine. I just saw that last one tonight, it was pretty great with its involvement of Leonard wanting to look good in Penny's eyes, only to revert back to his old nature when he sees he doesn't have a chance with her. So true.

My favorite episode (or one of them) to date has to be when Penny becomes the gamer girl. So many things are happening in that episode that are great from the online dating to the odd escalation of Sheldon/Penny's relationship. :laff:

But back to my original question, what about the pilot exactly makes it so great for you guys? I find Penny's character a little introverted from where she stands now with strangers...she's very talkative!

Agreed. What gets me really mad is that it has this rep for being full of "nerdy" jokes and references, but there's very little humour in these "jokes", which often amount to nothing more than simply referring to something from Star Trek and hoping that the mere mention of something "nerdy" will result in laughs. (Which it will, because they can insert it in post anyways)

Agreed.. i understand that characters evolve and that Sheldon has basically "stole" the show wich is not bad on itself.. but is quite clear that they have dumbed down a lot Leonard.. (even Howard and Rajh possibly).. Leonard was suposed to be a high level scientist with a full Ph.D .. and since season 2 is basically a big nerd but more like a normal guy .. even Sheldon continuisly bashing of his speciality doesnt fell "wrong" as we dont see much of what he does or how good he is at it

I have been really disappointed with this last season and haven't found nothing more than standard sitcom humor as others mentioned before (prior to this season though, I found it still good). Sad to say but it peaked last year and is just going downhill...most of the time it isn't even entertaining like how early seasons were. The only memorable moment of this whole season was Sheldon's flag talk, that was out of the ballpark for obvious reasons :laff:

Watching early Season One, I like how Penny's character evolved from being this mindless pretty object they admire from a distance to being one of the gang. Nerd girls get way underplayed in sitcomy shows and I like how she drifted towards that side. My favorite episode of hers is when she becomes the gamer girl :laff: The writers essentially gave her a more inside role to their world than an outside one, giving her more importance as a character, and I find that quite enjoyable.
