this isn't anime, actually, but it seems to fit too damn well within the *ahem* anime areas for me to self-justify that it should be here instead of the funny pics thread in offtopic - this is a scan from the "Harley and Ivy" 3-part miniseries comic that was on scans_daily - and it shows that the Teen Titans writers aren't the only ones influenced by anime:

and just for good measure, here's some Paranoia Agent pics - and btw, this show kicks ASS:

I freaking love Paranoia Agent, and I'm happy/can't believe it's on cartoon network.  As I said in my review page everything about paranoia agent shows you how skilled Satoshi Kon is for getting inside your head and setting up shop.

I'd compare it more to Lain than NGE, but Paranoia agent has far more shape to individual episodes, since each one centers around a new person.  The animation of Paranoia agent is also far more composed to continuity, though it does take a huge skew toward abstract by the end.

Col. Klink, Paranoia Agent's directed by the same dude who directed Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers - Satoshi Kon - and it's similar to Perfect Blue in the mind games that it plays (that kind of psychological.) I'm waiting to see the whole 13 episodes, but it's already up in my top 5 favorites list.

Unless I'm mistaken, that's Bruce Timm's artwork.  He also happens to be the executive producer of the Teen Titans cartoon.

I wasn't very impressed with perfect blue. But then I only saw the cartoon network cut. Wait am I talking about the submarine show?

No,the [adult swim] show you're thinking of is Blue Gender. The submarine show is Blue Submarine No. 9, if I'm not mistaken.

Perfect Blue is neither. Perfect Blue is a movie, and a really fucking damn good one at that:

The hell with that - this is a pics thread. Perfect Blue pics for all!

Awww, that is awesome. Hand drawing in detail like that is possibly a great talent in general. I wish I had talent.

I'm gonna post my 'cake then cry bitterly into a glass of bottled water.

'Lolicon': Japanese abbreviation of "Lolita Complex." A dangerously all too common (in Japan) affliction of affection from middle aged-men toward teenage girls.

Not teenage girls, prepubecent girls.  Teenagers already have breasts, which is probably a big turn-off for pedophiles.

Pedophilia=/=Lolita Complex.  Pedophelia is a mental illness, usually invoked by child-hood phychological trauma.  A Lolita Complex is an isolated incurrance of desire from middle-aged men to teenage girls.

There is definatly a line there.  The sad thing is that Dating Sims are crossing it in regular intervals.

The end of Read or Die: The TV, Episode 11:

This episode is perhaps why this show has already shot up to my 3rd most favorite anime series ever, behind FLCL and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Macross 7, FIRE BOMBER!

I may watch this series again.  Why you ask?  Because about halfway through the series I watched an episode and went...GOD!  That's the cheesiest thing I've ever seen!  They'll never make anything cheesier than that.  Then I watched the next episode, and it was even cheesier.  This went on right to the tail end of the series.

Everything was so damn cheesy that I could scarsely comprehend it.  after I got to a point where I said "I'm Watching another macross 7 episode now and it better be the cheesiset thing I've ever seen in my life."  I was never dissappointed.

The cheesiest thing I ever saw in anime:

Ray: I'm sorry, but Mylene and Bassara couldn't make it to the concert today.  So we'll use these cardboard cutouts.
(Two cardboard cutouts of Mylene and basara are shown, both have moving arms that strum their instruments)
Ray: OK, lets go! (He pushes play on a boom box and mics it.  Vefidas starts to drum and Ray starts playing with the two cardboard cutouts standing there strumming the instruments)

(the crowd goes wild)

I coulnd't make that up.

Clean urushihara!

Sway Koyomi!  For world peace!

Excellent Paranoia pic, GTP nice work

Here's more of one of my fave char designers: Urushihara Satoshi.  If this dude would put the smut down for a week, he could make something really outstanding, I swear.

*Sigh.  So far from the mainstream because he's probably painting perfect teardrop breasts even as I write this.

Pitt: Mainstream would force him to do cute animals or something else that'd be a waste of talent. Maybe he's waiting for some anime that has the best balance of humour, action and fan service ever.

Did somebody say boobs? Please, don't hit me, It's just filler....

Urushihara is also the master of the "glimmer" effect.  Lotsa shiny girls.  Also if you thought they looked cold, you should see his dirtier works.  I saw one of a girl in a mech suit that covered her arms and legs, but her entire torso was buck nekkid.

Naked in a metal suit?  Brrrrrr.

Nix IMD me the other day, and he goes into how firefly is really cool.  I agreed with him, and listened to how it's a well made series, and I don't doubt it.  But you can guess I ran to my DVD player and cued up a certain series, right?

Oh, my yes.

Wow, what a coincidence, I started downloading Outlaw Star about a week ago, of course, knowing Bit Comet it hasn't seen past 44% in days, but, whatever.

Let's see if the other gifs will work now.
