Example:
Leela's a alcoholic ("the silent problem of Futurama) and she wants to have a mental illness.

Bender's an alcoholic, perverted, chainsmoking gambler who steals whatever he wants whenever he wants.

The Professor used to be a whore! Not that it's a flaw in any way.

the show would be much more interesting if leela was an alcoholic, perhaps fry would have to put up with more crap to get close to her, such as one night stands and her beating the marrow out of his bones when he messed up a delivery...

Check the commentry on season 4. They go on about Leela drinking all the time. And sh talked about wanting to suppress her loneliness so that it could appear as a form of mental illness in that one which her parents appeared for the scond time (first time in season 4) Bender's stealin', drinkin', whoremongerin' and somkin' ways are not exactly stuble which is what i meant.

What all did they say about Leela's drinking? Cause i've never seen her with a glass in her hand when she wasn't sitting with/standing next to another crew member who had a drink in their hands. So if she's an alcoholic then the rest of the crew should be as well cause she doesn't seem to drink any more than anyone else. And we've never seen her drunk.

And i don't think she so much wants a mental illness, i think it's more she'd rather have one and be able to hide it rather than appear weak to the people around her.

Leela seems a very confusing person. Most of the time she's the level-headed, dull as dishwater captain. Then one episode ("Day the Earth Stood Stupid" ) we hear about her "years of wild hedonism". Maybe that's why she keeps rejecting Fry: She can't remember the night before.   :p

You don't see Leela drink much, but she talks about it a bunch, I mean, mostly in Route of All Evil, but also in Teenage Mutant Leela... Help me come up with some more.

In Spanish Fry, when they are camping, she's starts drinking almost imedialty after waking up. Ok so that's on holiday or whatever, but still...

(I think that this may have been discussed somewhere before)

She takes a couple of stiff drinks before facing her childhood "friends" in "The Cyber House Rules". Then again who wouldn't have done so in her situation?

I'd be hard-pressed to find any hidden flaws with any of the characters. Their flaws are all pretty evident.
Also, this thread is a cue for one of my favorite Fry quotes:
"What's so good about being normal? None of us are normal, and that's what makes us great! Like Dr. Zoidberg - he smells like he eats garbage, and does." -- "The Professor is a senile, amoral crackbot." -- "Amy is a clutz from Mars." "And Fry, you've got that brain thing!"

Anyways, Leela did have that bold, brisk Canadian beer in "Spanish Fry." :-o

The rolled up and smoked like a panatella is ironic though. Was that taken from Scary Movie 2? Because that scene in Scary Movie 2 was actually a homage to the original script for Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy's Dead.

Wasn't the point of that gag that she hadn't had any years of wild hedonism? What she classes as wild hedonism most other people would class as a mild partay? Or did I miss something? That's embarrassing if I'm wrong, because I laughed so much at that joke.   :hmpf:

Exactly.  It's like how her idea of being impulsive is wearing boots with a "crazy" green stripe on them.

She sings the line "and have a couple of brews" in Bender Should Not Be Allowed on Tv....  Obviously she's an alcoholic, I would be too if I had an eye the size of a canteloupe....

Well, that doesn't help; but it probably has more to do with being an orphan who didn't have any friends until she was 24 years old.

If she's an alcoholic she certainly handles it well. She never drinks when she's not supposed to and you never see her drunk. So seriously what did the commentary say about her?

Um, yeah.  That's not exactly the same thing as saying that she's an alcoholic now, is it?

Anyway, if Leela is an alcoholic, she's the most functional alcoholic I've ever seen, short of Misato Katsuragi.

Almost as much as you.
The hidden answer was "Yes, it's normal". If two grown people want to play and listen to music while naked why wouldn't they ? It's not like it's "unnormal".

Well, by "normal" do you mean "commonly occurring" or "acceptable"? I don't know how many people play and listen to music in the nude behind closed doors but I don't see there to be anything morally wrong with it.

Unless, of course, the person playing the music is shit.  :o

As shown in "X-Mas Story," there isn't as much of a taboo against nudity in the future.

The show would have been great if Zoidberg was acctually a self-mutilist. He's got such a lack of self esteam. Frequently during the show, unbeknownst to the rest of the crew, Zoidberg goes behind dumpsters or into the bathroom and cuts himself.

Or what if Amy was Bolemic? She always compares herself to Leela and feels like she just can't live up to her no matter how "cute" she is. She feels fat, so she constantly vomits up her dinner and cries beside the toilet bowl. Hating the face that looks back up at her from the water.

Wouldn't that be cool?

By the way, this thread makes no sense.
