It's kinda pathetic, not really sure if it's worthy of it's own thread, but has anyone ever noticed the similarity between the Deacon in 'Hell is Other Robots' ("Straight to Hell!" ) and Humorbot 5.0 (As featured in 'That's Lobstertainment' and 'Bend Her')?

Deacon

Humorbot 5.0

The designs are ever-so-slightly different (Line down the face, anntennae), but containing many VERY similar elements. Is this a case of Rough Draft being lazy and breaking out an old design for what they thought was a one-shot character at the beginning of 3ACV09?

It's funny, because in the 1ACV09 commentary,(I believe) Gregg Vanzo notes that he'd like to see the Deacon get his own show, and then 3 seasons down the line we get 'Late Night With Humorbot 5.0'  ;)

And you have no idea how painful it was for me to repeatedly mis-spell 'humour'  :p

i do notice the startling similarities, but maybe it is the same thing as Bender and Flexo, they are both the same model robot, but they say different stuff

Yeah maybe they're programmable "Entertainment Bots" or something like that...

Robots have free will too.
They can do more than what their basic progam tells the to do.

Bender learned how to be annoying, he can dance and even became a singer and actor even though he was only designed to be a bender.

I chock it up to the artists being simply lazy. Curse those lazy artists!

No - HumourBot (sorry, HumorBot) 5.0 is a computer voice synth like sound (a bit like Stephen Hawking's voice thingy), whereas the Deacon is a proper Gospel deacon ("Straaaighht to helll!!!" )

I just noticed him in the wax museum in Mother's Day:

That's before Humourbot's first appearance iirc, and he's got the new design.

I've noticed Humorbot in all those eps, but I didn't notice his design had changed  :)

Does anyone know if he was at the robot party in 'Crimes of the Hot'?

Because all animation is computer aided in Futurama they have what is known as a character pallete, which means they can put any character they have previously used in the background etc.

There are other robot that keep popping up, like the robot that is "eye" shopping in "A Fishful of Dollars" has popped up at Bend-aid, a humorbot was almost run over crossing the street outside PE hq as I remember once.

So u can put it down to lazy artists and an excuse of the same model robot getting around

Hello, everybody!
My first post here, I think Humorbot 5.0 is the best robot design so far. (I've only seen the first 3 Production Seasons) I've noticed him in 208 'Raging Bender' during one of the fights [Darn, don't remember which one] holding a sign saying 'Bender Rules', and he also was in alot [and I mean a lot] of Robot Rampage scenes in 214. Mostly the original design that was in 109.

he was at the party in COTH.

in the congo line behind Bender, just when Bender was putting Shelly down to pump the keg-bot.

looks like Humorbot5.0 though. i guess the split in his mouth was to parody Letterman's famous gap in his teeth or something.

That's a nice guess to why he has that split in his face.
Also, here's a image of Humorbot 5.0 from 208. He doesn't have the split in his face though.

And here's another one from Mother's Day with the split in his face.

Oh, a reference to The Simpsons, how devious.

By The Way, does Humorbot 5.0 ever return in Season 4 like David Cohen says he will on the 308 commentary.

The makers of the show obviously can't make up a completely different robot every time they need one in a shot. Hence, repititions are made.

Once you've been round here a while you'll get used to it. After all unexpected things make us feel scared and clever things make us feel stupid, so we ape the simpsons.

[Behind Bender]
As you can see Humorbot 5.0 (Well, the robot with his design) was quite popular during Mother's Day.
