Robots are fueled by alcohol, right?  And in other episodes it's been shown that robots can't really eat food, rights?  In the X-Mas story, however, Tinny Tim comments, just after Nibber eats the parrot's toenail, "I'm so very hungry."  Why would he care about the food and not the wine that Nibbler didn't touch in the first place?

Maybe the bird was marinaded in some triple-digit-proof booze. That could also be the reason why Nibbler didn't show up on the shot of the entire PE crew in the end, he was drunk out of his mind.

I think that Tinny Tim's creator decided that, to make him fully a Dickensian character, he should suffer in all different types of ways. That way, he's constantly hungry, but he can never eat and sate his hunger.

Or he hasn't eaten any robot food, like that flame-stuff Bender ate at Elzar's.

But what about the potato chips bender ate in "Bendin' in the wind"? He "converted" them into bricks.

They CAN eat other stuff, but it does nothing for them, as you saw with the brick example. It tries to strip them of fuel value, but finds little to nothing, and the rest is made back to waste.

Adding to Chump's post, Bender can eat and drink human food to fit in or be social. He drinks slurm and eats breathmints, and he can even tell if it taste good or bad.

But thats contadictory, because he has no sense of taste, as stated over and over in 30% Iron Chef. Maybe he can only tell that things taste strong or weak, but not good or bad. Thus, his food would be very good, or very bad, but no middle blandness.

I think, as a robot he doesn't have a sense of smell or taste, in the human sense. Probably more to do with analyzing the chemical components of the stuff and then comparing with his databank, whether it would be good-tasting for a human. Of course that mean he depends on the good taste of the guy who wrote the program.

And he might eat ketchup on his eggs, and like vegetables, or massive amounts of cabbage. Bleh.

They probably look ONLY at the nutritional value of everything. Hence the massive beer drinking. They are very healthy.

i have a very weak and far out awnser in a fishfull of dollars when there is an add for moms robot oil bender is heard to say "mmm tasty" and i was thinking as its the future some foods could be positivly or negativly charged and depending on the robot's charge in its mouth it could taste the opposite charge wheareas the same charge would pass through and to make tiny tims life terrible his creator gave him no charge whatso ever

I dont think that Bender has a sense of taste.. I belive that he just fakes it!

If you se "A fishful of dollars", at the end of the episode, when they are all tasting the anchovy pizza. Look at Bender when he tastes it, he looks at Leela and Amy, as soon as he sees they dont like it he to spits it out.

in 'My Three Suns' Leela makes it quite clear that Bender doesnt have a sense of taste yet in 'A Fish Full of Dollars' Bender hates the taste of anchovies.

can robots taste or not?

There's a reference to that on the DVD commentary for that episode (I think), but I can't remember what the explanation (if any) was...

You can see that Bender look at Amy and Leela to see how they react. When they're revolted and spit the pizza out, Bender does so too, but not before.

That makes sence. Bender seems to want to 'fit in' a lot. Also how does he feel things? He is always saying "ow!" and in "When aliens attack" he feels the pain when his ass is glowng red!

Some sort of temperature sensor? (which on reflection kind of doesn't explain why Bender is unable to tell he has a temperature in 'Fry & The Slurm Factory').

Maybe he has DOS, that damage thinking from that there AI movie...  I didn't like that movie, but it would make sense for robots to have something for them to detect "pain" so they don't harm themselves or others....  :nono:

I read in a medical journal once about people who suffered from some defect that resulted in an extremely high pain threshold. These people could litterally get themself 3rd degree burns before they felt the pain of the heath. They had to be attentive all the time, not to harm themself seriously.

The same thing with Bender. It would make sense for him to have a sensory system that detects heat, pressure, deformations etc to avoid serious injuries. We already know he has a termometer, and that this in turn tells him when and if he has a fever.

'Seems to me that the writers are willing to allow holes in the plot, or inconsistencies in the Futurama universe for the sake of a good(?) joke.
It's a cartoon. It's a comedy. Just suspend dis-belief, sit back and enjoy!
