It's because Fry is also his own grandfather on the maternal side; he comes in from both sides of the family tree. This was deliberately done, so that after iterating through timeless time-loops , Fry's exact genetic makeup as himself would always appear due to genetic convergence. That's also why Fry's mom has his hair -- or the other way around.
The one designing this scheme where there would be a Philip J Fry --without the Delta wave -- at the right time, is Fry's son -- the most intelligent human in the known universe. Like a young crackpot scientist (seems to run in the family) he concocts this scheme wherein his dad meddles with his family tree, until Philip J Fry emerges in the exact genetic makeup as planned and saves the universe (as he already did). Unfortunately, because of the cycles of inbreeding he becomes practically an idiot, and as he becomes so, his son --as a young genius crackpot scientist-- poofs out of existence. So once more, Fry is the tragic stupid hero stuck in a world not his own. The universe is sound and saved, but once again at great personal cost to himself.
If only ... but yeah, a generic sitcom romance and butterfly derbies are cool too.

Wait, how is he his own grandfather on the maternal side? If only ... but yeah, a generic sitcom romance and butterfly derbies are cool too.
Aww... that makes me feel sad. Love the idea with his son, that fits in so well with the established arc and would be similarly terribly depressing.

Fry is his own grandfather removing 1 of four brain waves the delta brain waves the others he posses are beta alpha and theta, delta being the dreamless sleep brain wave so I don't know how he got those dreams with ads in them
