Secret Awards!

It is with pride and pleasure (Jane Austen's only sequel novel) that I declare this thread open.

Yes, there will be secret awards. Awards I haven't told anybody about. Awards that have wandered far through distant places and come from lonely, uncharted, wastelands. Like the fanfic forum.

And the first next third of them will be given when the nominations threads close. So, watch this space.

And you'll be allowed to comment here, if you feel moved to do so. Please refrain from spam, and be respectful of the losers who haven't won anything yet or at all, because they are losers. We don't need to rub their lack of anything in their worthless loser faces.

And there aren't many of them this time round, but these secret awards are IMO something that really captures the original spirit of the first PEELies, which was basically a bunch of the really old-school PEELers giving out trophies to their friends, and casting shade over the occasional upstart who was found to be deserving of a public shaming or three. The PEELies that folks get to vote on are fine and everything. They deserve a place on your mantelpiece if you win one. But it's these awards that truly represent the spirit of what this contest is all about. These are the important PEELies. The ones that I made up on the spur of the moment because I thought it was funny. Which has always been part of the driving ethos behind 99% of the posts that 99% of PEELers have made.

So here's the very first of them. And the reason it's not a votable award is that there weren't enough options to make an exciting poll. The same three or four photos would have received a few nominations, and we'd have ended up with a tie between the two that I made an executive decision to award it to anyway.

Yes, it's a joint award. Step forward Unreal Legend for your photo of yourself looking like a Jedi who moved to the suburbs and Nutmeg for your photo of yourself looking like you're a dodgy mustache away from invading Poland.



And I guess now we'll see who's paying attention at all to any of this...

Both of you deserve this equally, but only one of you will be mailed an actual solid-gold spaceship. Enjoy!

And thanks to ShepherdofShark, we now have a brand-new award, for the person who has received the most overall nominations for a PEELie. Managing to get himself nominated in every category by our resident sharkaholic, we have PEEL's very own snailman, Tedward. He has been all over the awards, and in recognition of that, here's his trophy.

Oh, wow...so one man's trashy nominations become another man's treasure. I love the trophy, tnuc; thanks very much!

And, uh, I'd also like to thank SoS, without whom this most unexpected turn of events would not have been possible.

That's true in more than one way, actually; I probably wouldn't be leaving much of my slime in any threads if not for him, since he's the one who kindly provided me with my requested avatar way back when.

But between somehow achieving this honor and winna's endorsement, this just goes to show that anything is possible in science the PEELies!

There hasn't been a great deal of participation so far, but at least most of the people who've participated have read the rules. In fact, I suspect that everybody read them, but at least one person decided to ignore them and this deserves recognition. Especially since I sleep right next to them and could take a most unpleasant revenge upon them at any time during the night by tickling them mercilessly.

Instead though, I'm giving them a trophy.

Congratulations to Bendersfan1221, you've won the PEELie for Worst Nominations. Narrowly beating Shepherdofshark and Magicalus, you are this year's worst at nominating people for the PEELies, except for all the people who actually didn't submit any nominations.

They should feel ashamed of themselves. You should feel... ...well, not proud. Maybe, special?

In contrast to the above named PEELer, some of you actually put some effort into your nominations, and gave us something we could work with. In particular, there was one PEELer who used the nomination threads as their canvas, and painted a majestic masterpiece with lots of colors and other artistic stuff I am not cultured enough to know anything about.
