Though I feel like this award is kind of given for the wrong reasons, I'm going with Nibblonian Leader. He's a total attention whore, but at least he's self-aware and occasionally quite amusing about it.

More accurately, they feel that your desire for their approval is greater than that of the other candidates, and that the degree to which this approval would give you personal validation is unhealthier than the degree to which it would similarly validate the other candidates existences from their own perspectives.

The award in no way represents that approval, by the way. Just recognition of the fact that you're obviously seeking it.

Yeah, it all represents validation. They want to feel popular on the internet, so they wouldn't care if it was an award for "Best Herpes". They'd be happy they were the best at something. Or happy that they had something to bitch about. Or happy that they had something shiny. Basically, all these folks want is recognition. Who are you to deny it to them? Support your favourite attention whore and vote with... whatever a whore's customer traditionally shows appreciation with. I'm not going to touch that with a ten foot pole. You know I won this last year Nibs?  But then again, I wasn't posting every few hours about how I deserved the award...in fact, at the time (before I learned to take things in stride and these awards, positive or negative, are really "an honor" to be on), it was quite the opposite.  My point being, wow, you really are desperate for this award.
