Sweet Christ this is a tough one... Professor can realy make me laugh out loud, Bender has his LOL moments too, but he's more of an awesome, cool, respected character. Personality wise, Bender wins. The Professor can be a douche at times, but God damn he is hilarious. Plus Bender used to be my fave character. I'll have to think about this....

The Professor is more thought-provoking, more interesting as a character (with the backstory and all), and simply funnier.
See, I think Bender is the more thought-provoking character; most of the deeper, more philosophical episodes are based around him. Issues like mortality ("A Pharaoh to Remember" and "Lethal Inspection"), faith ("Godfellas"), and friendship ("I, Roommate," "Jurassic Bark," "The Beast With a Billion Backs") have all been explored in a really touching, human way--but with a robot as the point-of-view character. And, I don't know, I just think that's neat. When he's serving as a vehicle for these thought-provoking, poignant stories, I really adore Bender. He has his moments of of nearly-irredeemable antagonism (can I mention just one more time how much I loathe "Ghost in the Machines"?), but he is also capable of these incredibly sweet and humane gestures (a recent example: "Overclockwise"). Farnsworth is a great character, and I wouldn't be upset if he won. But I have to go with Bender; he's the character in whom I'm more emotionally-invested. And, as a weepy, touchy-feely young woman, of course all I care about is which character tugs at my heartstrings more.

And, I don't know, I just think that's neat. I completely agree that this is very neat and is one of the best things Futurama has done. But all of that (with the exception of LI, which was dependent on Hermes) was dependent on Fry in order to get the point across. Which isn't a bad thing at all in terms of the show being good, but for the purposes of deciding which individual character is better than the other, that makes me lean away from Bender a bit. I am probably being picky. Bender's excellent, he's just too much of an ass for me to be really emotionally invested in him. I do love it when he shows his softer side, though.

Professor Farnsworth by far, too many annoying Bender episodes for him to deserve this...

That was Bender's purpose as a character from the very beginning. You could throw him away as a deviant character, but no one would care because he's not human. Then you could double back to have a deeper inspection on the human condition with him precisely because he is the embodiment of the observer.

I agree with SpaceMaN, that's a way higher win than I expected. But with some of the Season 6 episodes Farnsworth definitely deserves the win.

Awesome outcome, very pleased with this. The Professor has remained great, Bender is hit and miss. Twice as many votes as Bender too, decent margin!...
