I too am going to go with Zapp. Partly because I am feeling Fry has lately become less and less interesting, while Zapp (even with the hiccup that was IAGDL) has remained awesomely consistent. And well, his character flags is part of why I love his character.

I agree with the above, Zapp is still an awesome asshole character and his interaction with Leela or Kif are always great. Not to mention him and Nixon together. Fry on the other hand, while still a great character does seem more and more stupid lately. Sure he is still the main character, but that shouldn't give him a win.

Hmmm...this is a tough call. I do love Fry, but some of his behavior in season six (what with the whining and the pining) bugged me. (Oh, and I have yet to forgive the shoddy characterization that is forced upon him in "The Beast With a Billion Backs.")
Zapp, meanwhile, is always hilarious--and his interactions with every member of the PE crew (not to mention Kif) are pure gold. I think he's going to get my vote here.

Zapp's getting my vote too. I don't think it needed to be said, but I'm saying it. Zapp is perhaps the greatest of the sci-fi space adventurers. He's evolved beyond a straight up William Shatner parody, gone straight through being a Kirk analogue, blasted his way past the Lensmen and anybody in Starship Troopers in terms of ruthless (if bungling) efficiency in the name of the job, and I've got a feeling that had he been in command of the Imperial Fleet, then the battle of Endor may have had a different outcome. Zapp Brannigan would be my first choice to lead humanity on its eventual voyage through the stars, not just because he's actually a fantastic commander and a charismatic leader, but also because he knows the most important thing about being a hotshot space adventurer isn't to bed as many beautiful alien women as possible (thought he does his best at that), but to look good whilst doing it. Whatever his failures, his triumphs (no matter how minor) tend to outshine them all. With panache and aplomb, with an unfaltering sense of duty, and with the stalwart spirit that has kept minkind reaching upwards since he discovered that the moon was in fact out to get him, Zapp truly represents everything that is most wonderful about our species.
As well as what is truly the most vile and sickening.

My vote will make it unanimous for Zapp so far, if the posters in this thread vote as indicated.

Zapp is a truly great character, maybe one of the two or three funniest on the show, but Fry is by far the better character here. He's about as funny as Zapp is, especially when he's actin' a fool (that's part of the reason we love Zapp so much after all, along with his arrogance and womanizing). Then there's the emotion that moreso than any other character, Fry is able to wrench out of us time after time...The Luck of the Fryrish, Devil's Hands, Jurassic Bark, The Late Philip J. Fry, to name a few. He's also the main character and the reason for the whole show, which puts a lot more pressure on his character to be great on a consistent basis than there is on Zapp. Not only has Fry avoided becoming stale, he's still the highlight and focus of many good and great episodes, still makes us laugh at his ignorance and tear up at his tenderness. A vote for Fry is a vote for the better all-around character.

I thought Fry had become rather stale.

Wow, if the posts above are any indication, I may be one of the few people to vote for Fry. Sure, Zapp is a good character in his own right and Fry has become stale lately,
I think this is another point where there is again a major difference between season 6A and 6B: Season 6A had a Fry who squeezed his buttocks together and got things done (took down a doomsday machine, gained the mutants their freedom, etc...), while 6B had the whiny, passive Fry.

Very difficult, I love both. They are both very important in the Futurama-verse, but I have to ask myself which is more important. How many great eps is Fry in that Zapp isn't? the answer is quite a few, therefore Zapp isn't as essential to delivering that quality as Fry is, so I voted for Fry...

Damned....that's what I call close. It was nearly a "toss-of-a-coin" decision for me, and extremely close. And now Fry won by ONE vote... (The final argument for Fry was that I really do like the way the writers sometimes do combine a traditional hero-situation with a ridiculous, hilarious new twist on him, in the exactly the right balance (at least according to my taste)).

Yeah, with Brannigan and Zoidberg out, I am going the same way as totalnerduk.

One of them had to lose, I wouldn't have been overly bothered either way, but I'm happy with the result...

So is now probably not the best time to admit that I really prefer Zapp to Fry, but voted for Fry anyway just to give Beelzebot a better chance to take it all?
