I think DT88 is a pretty cool guy. eh posts joeks and doesnt afraid of anything.

Continuing a longstanding tradition of mine (and of many other people's) of not voting for me in the monthly popularity contest.

DrT has been pretty on the ball lately. It is a tough decision, but I think with her reappearance and interesting posts about new homeownership and what not, this is leiapadme77's month and so I voted for her.

There's one person on that list who has shepherded some particularly good sharks this month.

It's Xanfor.

But I voted for ShepherdofShark.

Somehow neither of these branches of reasoning serve to convince me in particular that this means you're voting for the poster of the month rather than "personal favourite no matter what they've posted this month". Not that you're not making a fine choice.

More along the lines of consistently good posting over a long period of time.
Then why haven't I won again?!

I think it's worth noting that my post in response to Frisco (and the resultant debate) has been moved to here. Interesting how nobody thought to link it... people may have assumed that those posts were deleted.

I don't know. Bloody moderators. Doing half a job. What does [-mArc-] pay them for? :p

If I was a moderator for this sub-forum, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now.

We'd be having a discussion about some other much worse moderator mutilation (mine) of this thread.

I tried to keep this thread strictly ontopic to who you want to win this month (ie. not POTM philosophy which belongs much better in the other thread). Sorry everyone :hmpf: Go back to your mutilating.

And continue voting, dammit!

Hello. I'm on here because pumpkinpie sent me a PM alerting me that her Mom found her PEEL and now she's banned. She wanted me to tell all of you. I hate to go back to PEEL while I'm on break, but it's her cyber-will.

Thank you for your time.

This is stupid.  What is so bad about PEEL?  I can think of much worse places to go on the net for someone under 16.  Dang.

Peel is very borderline, but I'd agree with the worse places to go line.  At any rate, pumpkinpie is a minor, and it's her parents job to act as an authority over her.  She might still be able to sneak onto Peel though, as teenagers can be rather resourceful.

Also, nice avatar. :shifty:

Louis - read what I'm about to say.

There's a lot of adult discussion and themes here. We have threads like "strip for approval from the opposite sex" whoops I mean mr/ms peelified, and anal sex discussion in the gaypool, and threads devoted to drug use and masturbation. Her mom may just object to Futurama itself, what with the casual sex, profanity, amorality, disrespect for others, substance abuse, and so on. 12 is young for adult discussions of the things listed, and many other things I didn't bother to list. There certainly are worse places on the internet, but PEEL has plenty of content the parent of a preteen could justifiably object to.

My belief is that parents should pay attention to what their kids are doing on the internet, and that's what Pumpkinpie's mom is doing. We'll miss Pumpkinpie, and maybe someday she'll be back when her mom feels she's ready :)

winna and I are are more or less on the same page - her mother is doing what she thinks is best for her preteen daughter and that's not a bad thing.

Yes, you are all right.  I respectfully withdraw my earlier statement.  I'm going to miss having pumpkinpie's presence here too (especially with the new season about to start), and I guess I overreacted.  She's a real sweetheart, with lots of positive energy.

However, standing in a parent's shoes, I can see myself reacting the same way.  Hopefully her mom will realize in time that even though Futurama deals with adult themes, it has moral fiber, and that PEEL is a board consisting of responsible members.

Also, nice avatar. :shifty:

Nah, your statement was worthwhile.  If I was a parent, I'd expect that my children were visiting darker places on the internet... it's there already waiting to be explored.

winna and I are are more or less on the same page - her mother is doing what she thinks is best for her preteen daughter and that's not a bad thing.

This is indeed a good thing. So much of the internet is totally unsuitable for children that there should be a tiered access system.

In a world where people view the internet in the same way as alcohol and other drugs, pre-teens would be able to access content that can't offend or shock them, can't give them new ideas, and can't really be useful to them in any way. Teenagers would only be given access to stuff that's been proven to be educational, and not in the sense of "tnuk taught me a new word!". Educational as in "supports their school curriculum and will make them a better learner". Then once they hit the age of consent for their country, they'd be able to view hardcore porn, PEEL, and the rest of the internet.

Anybody found giving children inappropriate access to the internet would have their ability to operate a computer taken away from them.

Since we don't live in that world, I think that parents taking an interest in their children's browsing and blocking or banning them from certain sites is pretty much a good thing. If PEEL happens to get caught in the crossfire, well, we know who to blame. It's Beanoz4's fault.

Yeah, my mom is at least somewhat aware of PEEL, as she wanted me to delete my PEEL account after I got suspended from school. Luckily, you can't, so she gave up on that and deleted my Facebook.

Nothing on Facebook's gone forever. You can restore it simply by logging in again. You could do that from school, block her and anybody who is likely to tell her, and then hope she didn't see this post.

Well, and you would never be able to use Facebook on a home PC, or any other computer to which your mother has access. Basically, you would have to be as deviously devilish as possible.

All this plotting being said, I would not advise doing such behaviors behind your parents' backs. It's a shame that posters can be not allowed to go on PEEL by their parents, but it's the nature of the beast. Sure, there are much more corruptive sites on the internet, and I'm sure if a parent lurked on PEEL for a while they would notice that it's relatively tamer and safer than most sites (plus, we teach proper grammar!), but, alas, it's their prerogative.

Also, since I didn't get any titties in my inbox, I voted for SoS.

Nibbs: no one LIKES Facebook it's just pretty much a necessary evil at this point as you get old since everything seems to revolve around it. Hopefully Pumpkin's mother lets her back on eventually like everyone has said there are many worse places to be.
